ESN Rare  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.9.5
by: EnSabahNur [More]

About ESN_Rare:
=========================
ESN_Rare scans the combat log, nameplates, your target, the creature cache and your mouseover target for rare mobs. When it finds a rare mob in your vicinity it will alert you with a message or sound notification and create a Macro (Out of Combat) to target the Rare Mob.
The macro will be called "RARE" and can be found in the General Macros tab. It will target the last found rare Mob and will make it easier to find it in a huge group of mobs.
It supports HandyNotes for Mapnotes and should work well on German and English Clients.

Configuring ESN_Rare:
=========================
The addon settings can be changed in the Interface options and you can open them with the chat command /rare.
To see a list of all rare mobs in the cache use: /rare cache

The Cache:
=========================
ESN_Rare checks your creature cache for rare mobs. There is one catch to this technique however: Once a mob is “found”,ESN_Rare won't be able to find it again until your cache is cleared. If you find a rare mob's corpse you would have to clear your cache before ESN_Rare would find it again.

CLEARING THE CACHE
To clear your cache, follow these steps:
1. Exit World of Warcraft.
2. Delete the “Cache” sub-directory inside your World of Warcraft folder.
Example: “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache”

WoW will recreate your Cache folder after you log in again.

LIMITATIONS
The only problem for ESN_Rare are tamable beasts. Even when you run across the tamed version, ESN_Rare gets tricked and displays a found alert. In order to prevent those false positives you can disable the "scan for tameables" if you want.

Credits:
=========================
This addon was inspired by SilverDragon from Kemayo and NPCScan from Saiket. Some parts of the code were borrowed from SilverDragon.

There's a better way to do it:

1. Locate your creaturecache.wdb file.
2. Open the file for editing in notepad, or some editor of your choice.
  1. Edit > Select All.
  2. Delete. (erase the contents of the file)
  3. Save the file.
3. Right click the file in explorer.
4. Choose properties.
5. On the bottom of the 'General' tab, check 'Read Only'.
6. Click Apply, and/or OK.

Now you never have to delete the file again. It will never get anything written to it, and the game runs just fine with the file in read only mode.

Another unrelated request. Has anyone asked about not having it go off while you're in cities? It would just seem like a nice touch.

Hi, still loving this addon, I owe my growing pet raptor pet collection to you. I was wondering if there was maybe a way to create a plug that can be shared within the guild or friends that you allow to share with (got this idea from altoholic) that might record the time of when it was actually killed or the corpse was spotted by someone in your group of friends.

I figure the times could be helpful for those who like to stalk for pets.

Great mod. Two things:

1) You don't have to delete your entire Cache folder, just the file "creaturecache.wdb".
2) An easy way of doing this automatically at every startup of WoW is to make a little batch script that deletes the file, then starts wow:

del "C:\Games\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enGB\creaturecache.wdb"
start C:\Games\Worldo~1\Wow.exe

Replace "C:\Games\World of Warcraft" with your wow dir, and "C:\Games\Worldo~1" with the 8.3 path to wow on your drive (I can't make it start wow with the start command with the full path, strangely).

Save this to a file called "something.cmd", and run it to delete the cache file and start wow subsequently.

Thumbs up THANK YOU!!!

Thank you so much! Two weeks of searching and searching and I finally tamed Loque'nahak tonight at 3:30 am Central time on Fizzcrank. My knees are still shaking!!! Without this add-on it could have taken much longer.

ESN_Rare has no predefined database with locations of rare mobs but it will create a mapnote (with HandyNotes) where you found a rare mob.
Thanks for the info!

@DeFood: Right, the cache scan alerts you when a rare mob spawns near you or is loaded by your game client. This means it is not far away and you can use the RARE-Macro to target the last found rare mob (the game does not allow automatic targeting). To see what rares are already in your cache you can use the command "/rare cache". If you want to find the mob via cache scanning again you have to delete your cache files before launching the game.
