NPCScan  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.13
by: Torhal [More]

NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.

Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.

Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.

To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.

“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.

Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.

Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.

Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.

New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

    • Fixed screen edge flash when mobs are found.
    • Added ruRU localization from CurseForge.
  • 3.3.5.3:
    • LibRareSpawns' mob screenshots should once again appear when mousing over rows in the achievement tables.
    • Added frFR and koKR localizations.
  • 3.3.5.2: Fixed an error that occurred when “Search for completed achievement NPCs” was disabled and any achievement criteria updated.
  • 3.3.5.1:
    • Scans can now be limited to worlds (continents or instances). You can customize this for custom NPCs with an edit box next to the NPC's ID; Simply type the name of the world exactly, or select a continent name from the dropdown. If left blank, the scan will stay active no matter where you are.
    • Tables of rares in the Search configuration pane are now sortable by clicking their column headers.

  • 3.3.0.1:
    • Added 3.3's new spirit beast Arcturis to default scan and tamable lists.
    • Added an “/npcscan cache” command to print a message like the log-in cache warning.
    • Removed the rare raptors from default settings, since they no longer drop pets.
    • Removed the mostly obsolete “Search for Tamable NPCs” option.
    • Now uses ZoneIDs instead of map file names to locate tamable mobs. Consequently, The Razza now gets detected accurately in Dire Maul.
  • 3.2.0.8:
    • Rewrote the screen border flash so that it should never conflict with other mods that use it.

  • 3.2.0.2: Now loads properly when _NPCScan.Overlay isn't present.
  • 3.2.0.1:
    • Now manages which overlays are shown by the RareSpawnOverlay and _NPCScan.Overlay addons.
    • Added four rare raptor mobs that drop non-combat pets in 3.2: Dart, Takk the Leaper, Ravasaur Matriarch, and Razormaw Matriarch.
    • No longer shows an alert button for tamable NPCs while resting (in an inn or city), although you will still need to clear the cache.
    • Added all localized mob names for zhTW, and as many as I could find for zhCN and koKR.
    • Added an “Unmute for alert sound” setting to play the alert sound even if WoW is muted.
    • Added an “Alert sound file” dropdown to choose which sound to play for alerts. Additional sounds can be added using SharedMedia-type addons.
    • The alert border flash now only shows when you enable “Screen Edge Flash” in the Default UI's Display Interface Options panel.
    • Now continues searching for rares in 5-man dungeons. Raid dungeons, battlegrounds, and arenas will still disable scanning, however.
  • 3.1.0.1:
    • Achievements to kill rares now have their own lists in the options window.
    • Added slash commands to add and remove NPCs from the custom tracking list: “/npcscan add <NpcID> <Name>” and “/npcscan remove <Name>
    • You can now add tamable mobs to your search list and toggle them all using a “Search for tamable NPCs” setting.
    • Found alerts for tamable mobs will note that they are tamable and may be false alarms.
    • Added an option to suppress the “already cached” log-in alert.
    • Added Gondria to the default rare list, and updated some rares that are now tamable in 3.1.

If you open up the per-character saved variables in C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\{AccountName}\{Realm}\{Character}\SavedVariables\_NPCScan.lua, the file should look have a fairly straightforward list of NPC names to NPC IDs like this:
Code:
	["NPCs"] = {
		["time-lost proto drake"] = 32491,
	},
Just add one line per new NPC in the same format as that "time-lost proto drake" line.

It might actually slow the game down; I've never tried _NPCScan with that many active scans before.

If you then wanted to copy all of those settings from one character to another, the instructions in my last post describe a quick shortcut you could take. Otherwise, no need to worry about it.
335 NPCs found (200 displayed)

I probably shold bother you with this but I cant figure out how to see the other 135 creatures. I would also assume that the missing 135 consist of dungeon creatures ?

Split them up into a few searches: Level 1-30, Level 31-60, Old world instance rares, Level 1-60 expansion mobs.

Heres a request I think youll like and can probably implement rather easily. Adding a "note" field that says what zone / map the rares are on so people know where to go and also adding a custom note field so when people add custom mobs they can "note" what zone / map their in.

Great addon, I swear by it . Checked comments and didn't see a batch script to delete Cache and run WoW, so here's one. You'll obviously need to change the WoW directory appropriately.

Code:
@ECHO OFF
CD "C:\Program Files\Games\World of Warcraft"
IF EXIST "Cache" RD /S /Q "Cache"
START Launcher.exe
EXIT

How would you modify that just to delete the creaturecache.wdb file since thats the only one that matters with this mod. Also, assuming I understand how this works it should delete the said file / folder before starting wow but how does one go about setting this up to delete the file / folder then have it autostart WoW ?

Try something like this to delete just the one file.
Code:
@ECHO OFF
cd "C:\Program Files\Games\World of Warcraft"
IF EXIST ".\Cache\WDB\enGB\creaturecache.wdb" DEL /S /Q ".\Cache\WDB\enGB\creaturecache.wdb"
START Launcher.exe
EXIT
Not sure what you meant about deleting the file/folder and then autostarting WoW--that's what it currently does. Have a feeling you accidentally wrote the same thing with different words .

By the way, is there really any advantage to keeping the rest of cache around?

Only that you won't have to re-download it all the next time you log in.

What I mean is how do I set that up... like can you tie it to a homemade button on the task bar that you just push to delete the file and then start wow.

Kinda like how I have the Launcher button on my taskbar now that I just push to start wow.

Sure, that's what I'm doing and it's the whole point of the script in the first place . I've made a batch file using the above as content, then popped it into my WoW folder (although any will do). Then you can just make a shortcut to it and run it from wherever you like. Change the icon for added effect.

See, thats just the thing... I dont know how do to any of that lol... so could you please explain it to me so I can make a one click shortcut for my taskbar ;-)

Edit: Ok, I figured out how to make the batch file and it works but how would I give it the same WoW icon as the current launcher on my task bar ?

I probably won't be adding many more features after the next update. Now that you mention it though, I might have _NPCScan.Overlay add a new column to the configuration table with a zone name. Maybe not as useful as custom note fields, but I don't want that table getting too complicated. Hopefully _NPCScan.Overlay will be done around the time patch 3.2 comes out.

No biggie if you cant do it but I think it would be kinda cool to have a note / zone field so people can take one look at where each mob is found and also be able to add zome names for custom added rares.
