BadPlayer  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.2.0.18
by: Ne0nguy [More]

About BadPlayer:

You got a group together for the daily heroic. Everyone's gear checks out and every body seems confident about the run. So you pass group leader off to the tank so he can set the raid targets, and everyone heads inside the instance. It isn't long before you realize that things are going horribly. You have a BadPlayer in the group, and he doesn't know how to play his class.
You definitely don't want to run with him anytime soon. But he doesn't really belong on either your Friends or Ignore lists.

Add him to your BadPlayer list. BadPlayer allows you to list as many characters as you see fit. Each entry contains basic player info (such as name, level, race, class, and guild) along with the Date and Details of your last 'incident'.

This addon will also alert you if you unintentionally group up with a BadPlayer if he is on your list or on the list of one of your guild members.
Current Features:
  • Alerts when a BadPlayer joins your group or raid
  • Query's your guild for references on possible BadPlayers
  • Shared BadPlayer List between all characters on a realm
  • Search Frame showing player specific details and references from your guild
  • Reference Frame showing other players experiences with this character
  • Version checking and notification of updates

Slash Commands:
  • /BadPlayer
  • /bp (toggle BadPlayer UI)
  • /bp reset all (delete all addon data and reload the UI)
  • /bp [playername] (searches the player list for [playername])

BadPlayer - © Ryan West (ne0nguy.com)

Disclaimer: Player seen in the screenshots are not 'Bad'. They were added to simply demo this addons UI and were removed from the list shortly after.
This addon was designed for my girlfriend. I found that she was putting people she didn't want to group with on her friends list because it was the only list with comments.

Suggestion

I think this mod is great for storing info about people, good and bad. Perhaps a name change is all it needs (eg PlayerNotes)

There is no way to way to specifically browse all the players on your guild members lists or send your list from one player to another.
What BadPlayer does is, whenever a player joins a group or raid with you BadPlayer sends out a query to your guild members. If another guild member has that player on their list you will get an alert, at which point you can see your guild members comments about that player.

Thank you for all your supportive comments guys. I appreciate it.

So, my thought for a suggestion would be to have a second "BadPlayer Alert" but it might say "GoodPlayer Alert" or something. Then when making the note about that player, there would be an option to mark them BadPlayer/GoodPlayer.

This would take away the "BadPlayer Alert" I now get when I group with a "GoodPlayer".
I will add this to my todo list for this addon. The next update may take a while though. I have a lot of code I am not satisfied with and need to rewrite.

@ Cococalm

"This MOD is one that promotes intollerance and discrimination."

In my opinion the in-game "/ignore" is far more guilty of this.

/focus Ne0nguy

Great addon !

This addon actually gave me more room on my desk. No more notebook with this sort of info in the way and finding the information is so much faster.

I also use this to track "good" players. If I meet say a player that has reasonable prices on their skills, or they are a better than average party member, I make a note about them.

I concur with Seerah and Clad. Perhaps the name of the addon was somewhat misleading, yet there are several "types" of players that such an addon can apply to, who do not necessarily fall into the category of new players that are eager to learn and generally have fun in the game.

While the addon's name is "BadPlayer", I believe that term has a much broader scope than just someone who may not know their class very well. Now, I don't use this mod myself, but based on experiences I have had, I can see why some people might.

Types of people that I might put on the list, based on past experience...

- We start a group for an instance and someone goes afk unannounced for five minutes. They come back, apologize, we all understand, start the instance. 10 minutes later, they go afk for 5 minutes again. We forgive them and assume it was the same thing distracting them before. 10 minutes later, they go afk for 5 minutes again. Come back and apologize and say they were watching TV. We grumble, tell them that maybe they should stop, and move on. 10 minutes later, they afk and never come back. Not worth an ignore slot to me, because those are limited, and maybe, *just maybe* I might like to give the person a second chance. But if I have limited playing time, I might not want to take them with me next time.

- An elitist player (see this mod isn't *for* elitists, it may be for those who don't like elitists ) who thinks that it is their duty to criticize every aspect of their group members' play style and tell them what to do and how to do it. This person is a good player themselves, and can definitely hold their own. So, not worth an ignore because they are actually a good player. But they're a royal PITA and make me not want to look at group chat.

- A guild member that can be really annoying sometimes and just not stop talking about random stuff all throughout the instance. Not putting on ignore, cause they're in my guild, but some nights I may not have the patience for them.

Re: Outraged

Cococalm, I understand that for some reason you are upset by this mod but I have to disagree with you that it enforces any form of elitism. We play this game for fun and that includes being able to group with people who do not severely impact our gaming experience.

I ran Utgarde Keep with a Death Knight. About half way through the instance (without looking at any damage meters, gear or any other form of "elite" status I realized that he was not engaging any of the enemies. He sat back at about 10 yards and spammed Icy Touch, Howling Blast and Death Coil every time they came up.

He was a "ranged" Death Knight. This wasn't a heroic so I did my best to encourage him to run in and attack the mob.. since even the auto attack damage he would do would be better than the ranged damage he was pulling off. He didn't understand, didn't want to understand and the group ended with him doing less than 7% of the total damage for our five man group.

I have a choice to _FRIEND_ him, taking up a place in my LIMITED friends list so I can make a not not to ever group with him, or I can use an addon like this to make the note for myself.

Nowhere in there do I see any form of elitism that isn't already possible through some other mechanism.

Everyone has a right to play this game to enjoy themselves. Unfortunately some people affect the enjoyment of others when they join a group without any real knowledge of the game at all. We're not talking people who don't theorycraft and spend every moment trying to squeeze out the last iota of dps.. but even just people who leveled their characters to 80.

This addon has nothing to do with elitism. It simply is a way to put notes on players without adding them to your Friends or Ignore list.
There are many players in the game who take it upon themselves to ruin or make the game difficult for others. And there are also many people who do the same but unintentionally.

-Loot ninjas
-Intolerable/Impatient/Annoying/Ignorant players
-Account traders who don't know how to play their class

You Ignore someone who you never want to interact with again. You put someone on your BadPlayer list because they don't belong on your friends or ignore list. It's a way of giving someone a second chance, but also preparing you for a few wipes.

This addon does not violate the Terms of Use. All the notes and messages are kept on your local client and it will never send any messages to players on your list.

If you would like to discuss why you are so 'mad', I would be happy to discuss any issues you may have via Private Message. However, I will not tolerate ignorant flaming in my addon's comment section.

Outraged

Now here is a MOD that starts to turn this game into a JOB .....

since when was this game created to be the domain of ONLY the high and mighty who have no life, geared to the max ... prolly off bought gold to boot .... and so on?

Please think before you start having mods that end up by discriminating against players who are learning the game, or simply want to have fun without having to sarcifice the end game content ... on the premise ... they are bad players.

If this were a mission of Blizzard ... to have only "elite players" playing, then I think they would have created servers specifically for this purpose. However, being a "community" you have to expect players of varying skills and levels of gameplay. Not everyone is a game buff and knows every single thing about thier class or race.

This MOD is one that promotes intollerance and discrimination. Certainly not what Blizzard advocate in the Terms of Use and Code of Conduct.

This is a GAME ... this should be remembered ... and FUN is the operative word. This mod takes this element out for the majority of people because it is aimed solely at those who think they are the bees knees.

I am reporting this mod and hope it gets removed from the mod list.

Might want to look in to that, it's pretty much un-useable when not in a guild.
