MiniBlobs  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 5.4.1.5
by: jeruku [More]

_MiniBlobs replaces the quest POI and archaeology dig site map blobs on your minimap. It supports all standard minimap shapes, and works out of the box.

* Numbered quest markers not included.
Details
  • All quests in your quest log show their objective highlights. _MiniBlobs ignores quest watch settings.
  • This mod only adds blobs to the minimap - no numbered indicators from the world map.
  • Doesn't work with the “Rotate Minimap” option.

Options

You can access _MiniBlobs' options from your Interface Options menu. From there, the “Quality” slider controls how smooth the edges of blobs are drawn, and how jagged the edges of the minimap appear. The lowest setting should look reasonable without dropping your framerate. Higher settings, on the other hand, may cause dramatic performance drops for large, rounded minimaps.

Each type of blob can be configured separately. Both have configurable transparency, a dropdown to choose their general look (limited to default quest blue or dig site red), and a checkbox to disable that blob type entirely.

Quest blobs have an extra “Quest Filter” option to customize which ones you want to see. You can pick from either showing all quests, only quests tracked by Blizzard's Objectives list, or only your selected quest. This last setting matches how the World Frame shows quest blobs; You can change your selection by clicking the numbered circles in your Objectives list or on your World Map.

  • 5.4.1.5:
    • Fixed an issue where some addons would replace Minimap:GetChildren() but it never changed the return of Minimap:GetNumChildren()
    • Should now scan the Minimap for any new, only after being added, objects that need to be shown above the Blobs.
  • 5.4.1.3:
    • Found some more minor issues with the fading.
    • Hopefully repaired the Change Log.
  • 5.4.1.2:
    • Replaced erroneous code. Used wrong hooks for frame hiding, which kept the blobs from hiding with Minimap.
  • 5.4.1.1:
    • TOC Updated to 50400.
    • Version updated to reflect previous version conventions.
    • An overlay has been added so Minimap Icons appear above the blobs.
    • If Minimap is faded or scaled MiniBlobs overlay will scale with those settings. Do note that Blips, player arrow and resources, will not fade unless Minimap is hidden.
  • 4.2.0.3:
    • Now replaces the default Minimap blobs
    • Does not hide in combat
  • 4.2.0.2:
    • Added a “Quest Filter” dropdown menu to the options screen with new settings for watched quests only and selected quest only.
    • Updated koKR localization, and added zhTW localization by BNSSNB.
  • 4.2.0.1: Added frFR localization by Arcueild and koKR localization by Sayclub.
  • 4.1.0.2:
    • The default minimap border now covers jagged blob edges.
    • _MiniBlobs is incompatible with Carbonite, and won't show any blobs with the latter enabled.
    • Fixed “action blocked” messages when toggling blob types in combat.
  • 4.1.0.1: Initial release.

Due to the inability to hide selected quests blobs and the inability to show my own blobs I will not be updating this addon at this time.

Sorry for the late reply. They have made some major changes to the way they use the blobs which may hinder further development of this particular addon.

I will see what I can do.

If I disable the ZygorGuidesViewer addon, the flashing stops. That addon has an option to flash herbs/mines. If I disable that option, the flasing of the mimiblobs usually stops. I have some other addons that do things with the mini-map (like Archy), that may also be causing issues.
I'll keep playing with different combinations and see what I come up with.

Updated the addon, there was a bit of an issue that may have caused errors which in turn could have made it flash.
If the problem persists then please send me a private message or leave a post with a list of your addons.

I use ZygorGuides, which does make the herb/mines flash.
I use Jamba which replaces the quest watch frame.

No, no they are not.

I am looking at a few possibilities of what may be causing it to flash, all of which would be addon related. Alternatively I will not rule out error on my part, it could very well be a simple problem with the code itself.

Are you using any minimap addon(s) and if so which one(s)?
Are you using any watch/quest frame addon(s) and if so which one(s)?

I hope the author keeps this addon working.
I found it about a week ago.
It shows all the blobs automatically while the blizzard version has to be told which one I want it to show.

I will have to second that, though due to a very specific reason.
The blizzard version has a hashed shading around the regions where it extends beyond the minimap visible region.
Unfortunatly that shading is based on the default circular shape of the minimap and does not adjust for any other shape.
So it looks rather ugly, and is I feel getting in the way of the feature on my square minimap.
Therefore I will continue to use your addon in the meantime at least.
I don't know if any addons do this already, but you can hide that hashed shading with this macro command:
Code:
/run Minimap:SetArchBlobRingScalar( 0 ); Minimap:SetQuestBlobRingScalar( 0 ); -- Reduces width of hash border to 0

Incorporated in 4.3's Default UI

From the looks of the PTR, the default UI will optionally show quest and digsite blobs on the minimap in 4.3. Remember to uninstall _MiniBlobs once the patch arrives!
____
Edit: It's here! You can enable the default UI's minimap blobs with your minimap tracking menu, like so:
