nUI [Development] - Retail  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 10.1.5.50006.0 PTR
by: Xrystal [More]

nUI Development

This will be the pre release versions of nUI I have worked on and is ready to use ( unless otherwise stated ) by anyone who wants advance access to future additions to nUI.

Timing between Development to Live

I haven't nailed down a time period yet but probably something between a week and a month dependent on how much was involved and needs testing and whether a live update needs to be made due to a bad error.

Version Numbering

Similar to the others the version number system will have the wow version number following by a number starting from 0 plus a letter starting with 'a. And where appropriate the name of the main feature added to give you the sign that it would benefit from more tests to find potential bugs. By the time it hits live or even intermediate development versions the version number may change but I will do my best to highlight the connection to avoid confusion.

Additional Notes to previous notes:

1. The previous thought that the tooltip system was not working, could be due to this being the test server as
they add to the button text for reporting errors and so could be replacing the tooltip addition nUI creates.
It might not be something fixable based on conversations with others on the subject.

2. The micromenu has been altered in this patch and thus, nUI's version may have to be altered to match.

3. The edit mode system appears to override what nUI does. So, I will need to investigate how much work it will be to have
nUI override the edit mode instead, I suspect alot but I might be lucky. For now the best bet, if the nUI layout ( without the edit mode )
isn't what you expect, import the edit mode layout below into the edit mode system and apply it.

4. And Yes, nUI is getting harder and harder to fix. Especially when they are adding interface elements in patches now and not just expansions. nUI is almost hitting 20 and it might be time for it to retire. I am seriously looking at creating a replacement that is more up to date and hopefully more easier for someone else to take over when it is time for me to move on.

This is a copy of a recent nUI layout ( takes into account the new micromenu additions ( the eye ) and placement of the 3 additional action bars in a different location for those that choose to show them.)

> Added KeyBindings Functionality back into nUI (oops sorry)

Unfortunately due to the overhaul Blizzard did to the tooltip system in Dragonflight I have to take
a closer look at how to keep the nUI added Keybinding text on the mouseover tooltip.
You can still use the CTRL-ALT-RIGHT CLICK to activate the nUI keybinding box which clicked on
an nUI action button.

Note:
Action bars 6,7,8 are neither enabled or disabled by nUI so you can utilise those bars through the
edit mode system however you like.

Currently on 10.1.5 PTR the flyout spell buttons do not work as expected. This is a Blizzard related
problem as it happens when no addons are loaded.

If you have never set up your character/account with a copy of nui's editmode layout you can use the
below block of text to set one up.

If one exists but it isn't active, select it and do any other changes as you feel fine about. If necessary you can overwrite.

As a reminder, this is the EditMode Layout you can import to get any of the Blizzard frames in a location that is close to an nUI layout despite some of the frames not being in nUI's control.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
>>> Objective Tracker <<<
I have kept the Objective Tracker in Blizzards control. This allows users to use their tracker of choice.

>>> Micro Menu <<<
I have kept the Micro Menu in Blizzards control, mainly because they have changed that module significantly.
This might change however once I figure the new changes out.

>>> Chat Frame <<<
nUI manages the chat frame as normal but because it isn't an nUI created frame it can be moved via Edit Mode
This frame may be the major factor to the taint errors.

>>> Unit Frames / Groups / Raids etc <<<
nUI still manages these all but are usually the targets for taint errors due to their normal in combat updates

>>> Override Action Bar <<<
Hopefully all will be well here now that we have gone back to nUI managing the bars.
This is usually where special combat situations fall over as the buttons aren't updated at the right time

>>> Minimap <<<
As per normal, minimap is under nUI control
Similar to Chat Frame this could be a major factor to the taint errors

>>> Minimap Button Bag <<<
Similar to Chat Frame and Minimap, nUI is managing the Minimap Button Bag

FEEDBACK:
Please can you give any feedback you have either on wowinterface or on curse. Curse has an issue database which makes tracking and dealing with those easier but either site is fine.

Dungeons and Raids are the most important avenues to check as I don't do them myself.

Had an attempt at getting my basic actionbar mod to work with the new flyout buttons but alas, the flyout part worked ( woohoo ) but how I got that to work, meant EVERY button on the bar then triggered a blizzard error (boohoo ).

So, as I mentioned before, using the spell buttons individually may be required until I can get that issue sorted.

Spell Flyout Issues in 10.1.5

I can't recall flyout buttons being an issue before Dragonflight but it is definitely a problem since 10.1.5.

Not sure what they have changed yet but seeing as they have been used for more elements of the UI in Dragonflight it's likely a problem back to 10.0 but we never noticed it enough to look into it.

That said, after a look at it yesterday, my first attempt at fixing it failed miserably. But, there is a work around until I can identify the best route to solving the issue.

* Work Around 1
Dragging the flyout button spells to their own button slot individually seems to work

* Work Around 2
With 3 new action bars now available that are under blizzards control. You can always use those bars for the flyout spells.

If you have a curse account there is an issue for this to help me keep on top of these types of problems.

Thank you .. I responded to your email.

But as a general message to people using nUI and reading this ..

nUI 10.0.0, 10.0.5, 10.0.7, 10.1.0 all have some of the nUI frames disabled and Blizzard ones used instead. Primarily due to severe game playing affected errors that have no immediate solution. Initially the Edit Mode system and then changes made that broke things somehow.

nUI 10.1.5 will hopefully ( when released ) restore the bulk of nUI back to nUI and leave those elements that can stay with Blizzard without affecting nUI's visuals as they are and thus limiting nUI related errors from surfacing.

The action bars in either version types will highlight taint errors that can be started anywhere in any addon. So if you get these sorts of errors, test with a test dummy with only nUI and !buggrabber/bugsack addons installed to limit the number of addons that are likely to be the cause.
Reloading the UI will clear the taint stack and allow the addon to work with no issues until the next taint ( at least from my own tests in this area ). So far, elements that seem to happen at the same time as these taint errors appearing are level ups during combat ( Unit Frames ) and inventory alerts ( Bags ).

Thanks, I'll take a look as soon as I get the opportunity.

When I made some changes to the nUI top bars Titan bars wasn't fully updated to Dragonflight at the time so I could only test against Chocolate Bar which I was using at the time myself.

Although, come to think of it, I don't think I ever tested against more than 2 bars before.

When was the last time you could do what you wanted with Titan ?

It's also possible that Titan has had a change that nUI needs to investigate.

Yeah some of the action bar errors are hard to track down as they might not actually be action bar caused. It's likely taint passed around the protected environment. Where possible, a reload should fix a taint situation, but hopefully it doesn't happen too often to get too annoying.

I'll have a look at the Titan Bar and keyboard casting issues you mentioned and see if it's a Blizzard Action Bar issue due to changes being worked on for the next patch or nUI's action bar picking up a problem somewhere.
The Titan issue is on the retail version of nUI. I also have Decursive and bossMODS. All of which I keep updated.

Dragonflight 10.1.5 on PTR Discussion

Yes I forgot the TOC version change rofl.

Curse Discussion on this is available here : https://legacy.curseforge.com/wow/addons/nui/issues/183

Based on tests it looks like I can bring nUI back again *party* .. this means that there is a chance more taint errors will appear or override action bar issues while in their respective combat tasks.

Okay .. here goes .. using your favourite text editor .. or one available rofl.

To remove the green boxes that appear around a few of the frames.
> Open nUI_UnitPanel_Solo.lua
Change every reference to xnUI_BevelboxBg to nUI_BevelboxBg and xnUI_BevelboxBorder to nUI_BevelboxBorder. I assume this was some sort of input error or was based on an old version of nUI when those files existed in the folder specified.

To remove the error regarding happiness frame ( not available in retail )
Open the following files and comment/remove the ["Happiness"] section. To comment using --[[ before the code block and --]] after it.
> nUI_UnitSkin_SoloPet.lua
> nUI_UnitSkin_SoloFocus.lua
> nUI_UnitSkin_SoloTarget.lua
> nUI_UnitSkin_SoloToT.lua

These changes appear to make it work on my character when I quickly tested it.
