MyRolePlay  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.424
by: Etarna, Angry_Footman, Katorie

MyRolePlay is a roleplaying UI AddOn for World of Warcraft. It lets you make a roleplaying “profile” about your character that other users of MyRolePlay (and other compatible AddOns supporting MSP) can see in the tooltip, and in a more detailed window. It’s fast, light, and powerful.

  • Spot other roleplayers at a glance, see which RP AddOns they are using, and get a quick overview of their character in the tooltip!
  • Change your character’s name; add a last name—or whatever you wish!
  • Mark your preferred style of roleplaying (casual, full–time, beginner, or a custom style…), or your status (in character, out of character, being a storyteller…)
  • Exercise your creativity further—describe your character’s appearance! Eye colour, height, weight…
  • Give people a taste of your character’s story, if you wish—add biographical information like their age, hometown, birthplace, and maybe even some tidbits of history to make people hungry to discover more by interacting with your character and roleplaying with you? Or hide others’ biography, if you prefer to discover that kind of thing through interaction.
What if your character’s appearance changes, say when they wear different clothes, or shapeshift into different forms? No problem: simply add another ‘profile’, and just change the fields you want to be different in that alternate profile. Select freely between the default and alternate profiles suit your character’s mood, dress, form and so on! If you name a profile after an equipment set (Blizzard’s, ItemRack or Outfitter) or a form (druid, shaman, warlock, priest or worgen) MyRolePlay can even automatically change profile for you when you switch!

MyRolePlay has tremendous scope for creativity. It’s extremely fast and flexible—a roleplaying AddOn that lets you express your character however you wish! Use it as an aid to roleplaying, fleshing out your character’s “feel” or just helping you stumble into more roleplay… how you choose to use it is up to you!

Editing your profiles

Bring up the Character Sheet (“C” by default), and select the new MyRolePlay tab underneath. Click on a field to edit it.

Alternate profiles management: [+] to add a new alternate profile, [-] to delete or clear the profile, [R] to rename it. Fields that appear dimmed out are ‘inherited’ from the default profile—simply change the fields you want to modify from that.

Further options (such as a choice of units to display height/weight) can be found in the Interface Options, AddOns tab, under MyRolePlay.

Where can I see other people’s details?

When you mouseover someone who has MyRolePlay (or another compatible roleplaying addon), you’ll see some of the extra roleplaying details they added in the tooltip, which is a handy hint that they're a roleplayer!

When you mouseover someone who has MyRolePlay (or another compatible roleplaying addon), you’ll see some of the extra roleplaying details they added in the tooltip, plus if they use MRP or another RP AddOn such as GHI (GryphonHeart Items) or T (Tongues), which is a handy hint that they're a roleplayer!

If you want more information about their character than the tooltip provides, like the full description or history (where applicable), target them and click on the “MRP” information button that appears by the target frame, to browse their profile in a resizeable description window. (Alternatively set a key combination in Key Bindings to bring up that window, or: /mrp show <charactername> or just /mrp show when you have them targeted.)

You can target yourself and view your own profile as it appears to others in there, if you like, and if you want to move the MRP button, right-click to unlock it, drag it where you want it, and right–click again to lock it in place.

(Users are reminded that profiles may be seen by other players and Blizzard, and are subject to the Terms of Use, and policies of the realm(s) you play on. Please have fun and remember to exercise your creative freedom responsibly and respectfully.)

MyRolePlay v8.0.1.424

~* NEW FEATURES *~

- MyRolePlay now supports setting a personal note for any profile you view, that you can reference later. Click the button next to the X in the top right of the viewer to set one, then you can view the note later by mousing over the button. An icon will also appear in the player tooltip when you have a note set for a player. (Examples below)

- The Glance Preview frame is now less ugly (c:) and a little smaller. Less bloat on your UI while providing the same information.

Bug Fixes:

- Some changes to support future patch 8.1. More changes might be needed later if the PTR receives further updates.

- Fixed an issue with glances sometimes not showing for players if they chose to not display colours in the viewer.

~* LAST VERSION'S UPDATES *~

This version of MRP adds the "At a Glance" field. It allows you to add up to 5 brief notes about your character, and include an icon. There is also an**OPTIONAL** preview frame on target that can be disabled in options, which will show your target's glances + RP status. Mouse over the icons to see a player's glance data. Details below. ***Do note glances will not be visible on players using old versions of RP addons. This feature is new to MSP and as each developer adds support, they will begin to be viewable to all. Give people time to update.***

To access the editor, simply click the "At a Glance" field in the usual MRP profile editor.

The glance editor frame. You can set a title, description, and icon for each glance. Having a title activates the glance.

Targeting opens the draggable glance preview frame. You can disable it in options if you don't like it.

You can also view glances in the full profile viewer by mousing over the icons.

Updated MRP's show profile keybinding (now properly under AddOns in your keybindings). It will first check to see if you have a target, and open that player's profile, or, if you have no target it will check for the player you're mousing over. This means you can open player's profiles without even needing to click!
Fixed an issue with the OOC field in the viewer not scaling correctly on resizing frame.
Fixed an issue where /mrp Show did not properly load a profile if the player name was not capitalised.
ElvUI AddonSkins is once again permitted to interact with MRP after author fixed the issue on their end.
Updated Chomp to v7. (Technical stuff)

ICONS! You can set a custom icon for your character's profile and tooltip that other players can see when mousing over you and loading your full information in the viewer. This is also cross compatible with the other RP addons so you can both view and be viewed by them! Here's some details:
Setup an icon by clicking the "I" button next to your portrait in the profile editor:

You can view icons in both tooltips and in the profile viewer:

If you don't like seeing icons in the tooltip, as always, i've provided an option to disable them:

You can now set a custom colour in the options panel (/mrp options) for the headers in the profile viewer and editor. This was requested of me a few times over the past week.
Patched MRP to work around issues with ElvUI skins.

Fixed bug regarding OOC field on tooltip character cutoff being too high. Tooltips should be a decent size, if not you can always disable fields appearing in them or reduce the maximum number of lines using the slider provided in interface options (/mrp options).

Custom classes have finally been added into MyRolePlay! You can edit this field within the profile editor and it will display in your tooltip and when they load your profile in the viewer. ("Class" in the editor). (You can also disable this setting in options to revert back to showing the in-game class if you preferred previous functionality).

The OOC / Other Information field common to other RP addons is now part of MRP. You can use this field to enter information that is not related to your character itself. It will be displayed as a preview in the mouseover tooltip and in full within the profile viewer. (Should you not like this addition you can hide it from the tooltip via a checkbox in interface options /mrp Options).

MyRolePlay now supports cross-realm and cross-faction addon communication through Battle.net. You need to be Battle.net friends for this to function. (Sorry, that's a limitation on the server side that I have no control over).

The profile viewer has been updated and now includes larger, scrollable displays for the Currently and OOC fields. This will eliminate the previous cutoff of long text in these sections.

The currently field will now properly word-wrap in the tooltip, so you can see longer ones that were previously cut off after one line. You may also now write multi-line currentlies as the editor itself has been redesigned to support this.

URLs / web links are now clickable in profiles. Simply click on a link surrounded by <> and a box will pop up that you can copy the text from.

RP names will now appear in whispers and party chat if you have encountered the character since login.

There is an option to show mouseover target in the player tooltip. (Can be toggled off in options)

A slider has been added to interface options to limit the number of tooltip lines displayed to your choice. Ranges from 1-10. This is to support the new fields being added to the tooltip. Some players can enter lots of data into these fields making quite a large tooltip. Use this setting to reduce that.

There is a checkbox option to automatically hide the MRP tooltip while in combat and revert to the standard Blizzard one. This is to help out raiders that are bothered by roleplay information in their way during raids, etc.

You can now view profile load progress at the bottom of the profile viewer! It will show what percentage of the profile has loaded along with the number of chunks received. This will give you an idea of how fast a profile is loading, or if it is loading at all. It can also return an error message if the profile was unable to be sent at all. Do note profile transmission rates depend on many factors, and RP addons have no way to speed this up.

BETA FEATURE (may be buggy): Colours are here! Custom profile / tooltip colours are now viewable as set by other players. I've also managed to get some *BASIC* colour support working in MRP itself from the player side, allowing you to set custom colours for your name, eyes, custom class, description, and history fields. (Again, this feature is very early in development and may be buggy). You will find the buttons to change them within the edit boxes of those fields (You must have colour enabled in options). "Change Colour" will bring up a colour wheel to select from, "Restore Colour Default" will revert to your default profile's colour. The text in the editor and edit box changes in real time when you select a colour.

There is a toggle to disable all of the new colour settings in options (/mrp options), returning MRP to its former state with all white text. If you like it better the old way, use it!

Moved version number to bottom of tooltip to reduce clutter. You can turn the version information off entirely now in options if it bothers you.

Added a cut-off for long character names with titles (in-game names) to avoid stretching the tooltip too much.

LibMSP updated to v15. (Technical stuff - supporting the latest Mary Sue Protocol!)

Chomp updated to v6. (More technical stuff, thanks Bor for the Chomp update)

Not really a feature but the field headers are now purple instead of red. c:

Various Bug Fixes:

/mrp Show will now correctly take a plain character name without realm attached and load the profile as it did originally in Mists of Pandaria.
Fixed an issue with ElvUI causing RP names in chat to not appear.
Fixed an issue where in-game class was showing in all caps in the class field if a player viewed their own profile and didn't have a custom class set.
Localisation errors: VoidElf / BloodElf / LightforgedDraenei etc.. will now appear properly as Blood Elf.. etc (This is a very old bug, must have been around since .. well, forever.)

Profile window is no longer movable in the latest version.

Also, ToC is still outdated, should be 60000 and not 50400.

House

I've got a minor feature request for you:
Please consider making the automatic addition of a particle (like "of") to the name of people's Houses more optional than it is now.

Some people are members of a House and don't have a particle, or their House or Clan may not need one anyway. And in case people do use a particle, it's very likely to be a part of their name, and as such shouldn't be translated even if someone from a different species, or country, would read their description.

Leave it to each one of them whether they want it to be "House Atreides" or "of House Atreides" or "de Lévrier". While I realise that they can add such additional denominations to their names or titles, some of them don't have titles but are still part of the same House or Clan and seeing members add the same information in different places seems rather odd.

If that's too weird or confusing or not within the scope of MRP, that's fine.

Just limit the amount of characters shown in the tooltip? No need to do so in the profile itself.

Yikes, I can see where a character limit implementation would be handy. I've been itching to put one in, but that might upset quite a few people writing in entire encyclopedias about their characters IN the MRP (Though it would definitely cut back on the lag... I'm not one to judge)

The Works and Big Reveal Coming Soon!

Hello again, Angry_Footman speaking!

In the coming patches, I've been experimenting with a few things (Most will be kept a surprise until I'm actually in the alpha/beta stages of it), and have selected a willing party to be used as my alpha and beta testers. During which time, updates shall continue otherwise unchanging the layout until the decided things are completed.

Be sure to know that in the upcoming patch, I will reveal my In-Game toon identity within a readme file, and the addon will begin to recognize me and my alpha/beta testers as such. I hope to make your MRP experience the best there is, and if you do see me wandering around the streets of Stormwind or Orgrimmar (That's right, I'm coming hordeside for the other half, guys), please don't hesitate to come up and slap/comment/suggest/whatever to me whatever you have on your mind.

Fight the good fight,

Angry_Footman

I figured it's best to introduce myself now.

Hello! I'm Angry_Footman, and due to the kindness of Etarna, she has given me the privilege to carry the torch that is MRP onwards through the existence of WoW.

I'm often ghosting about the US server Wyrmrest Accord, which is what introduced me to MRP and roleplay in particular, and I must say, it's opened up a whole new can of worms for WoW, livening up the experience.

I hope to do the Etarna and those that use this addon proud. Here's to a good future ahead of us, and hopefully I can at least live up to keeping this updated and (Mostly) bug free.

Update: I no longer play World of Warcraft. (No particular offence to Blizzard, I'm just a tad bored of the game, given I've been playing it for nigh-on 8 years…!)

MyRolePlay is open-source, so anyone can update it if they have the skill; an interested developer has already come forward, and I've added him as an author on here. I hope he takes good care of you, and I wish you all the best in your journeys in Azeroth, Draenor, and beyond. May the moon shyne upon you!

Alyssa

Buff Frame Tooltips

By chance, has the problem that is causing MRP tooltips to be displayed in buff/debuff frames been looked into yet?

This issue is still persisting with AuraFrames, and as much as I'd love to use MRP over any other RP addon that I currently have installed, I cannot do so due to this one issue that is arising.

Just a TOC bump, really. Nothing to update for this patch, it seems. I do plan a feature update in time, however.

Re: Buff Tooltips and Raven

Updated for 5.2; included new features (including a fix for that pesky browser-going-offscreen bug, the cause of which I’ve gone into on another site).

MRP is confusing it with a UnitFrame, for some reason, and it’s even returning through UnitIsPlayer()?

I shall do. It never seems to happen for the Blizzard vanilla buff frames, but some of the third-party ones. Would love to find out why and get it fixed.

…unless your character has adapted to Pandaria so well that they’re sneaking extra food under your nose, no—but I’ll have a look!

Buff Tooltips and Raven

Something I've noticed when using both MRP and Raven (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...242-Raven.html) at the same time is that all the enhanced tooltip options seem to interfere with the tooltips of my normal buffs. Hovering over the buff for the flying mount, for example, will give me the enhanced character tooltip instead of the flying mount tooltip I'd expect.

I've tested this with different addons enabled, but nothing else in my (admittedly heavily modified) UI causes similar behaviour. I have no way of telling which addon is causing the problem, but my workaround for it has been to simply not use anything but standard blizzard tooltips from the MRP settings.

Do you have any idea of what might be causing this?

Re: Compatibility

Updated for 5.0.4. You will need to update (a UI template has changed, so you’ll get Lua errors and the editor probably won’t work if you don’t).

I use it with Tongues, so that definitely works. Should be just fine with the other, I think; give it a go.
