Cadence

Version: 02.05.04.00.R
by: Garland [More]

.: Cadence - Second Milestone :.

In ages past, there was an interesting little mod called Ascend, it used running cadences for amusement and I enjoyed it. This mod is an effort to drag Ascend kicking and screaming into the future, so to speak. It's been retooled to use Ace2, along with FuBar & Niagara. Overall the interface is much more friendly now (thanks to FuBar & Niagara) and I look forward to building up its database with the submissions I'll hopefully get here.

The zip includes a manual which fully details everything Cadence does and how to use it, along with a changelog which updates with every version, detailing what was added, changed and fixed.

(For those who might be wondering about the Google Docs versions, I've stopped uploading them. They were just too messy and I didn't want to continue to subject people to them, especially when the versions in the zip are so much more nice and just as easy to read.)

Angry BAD ADD-ONS!

I took out your add-on and the add-on "VanasKoS"
Also all the WTF files for both. The error stoped.
Also when I have one or the other on. Both work fine.
The 2 addons are just not working well with each other.
Is there some kind of work around I can do?

Thanks, I'm still tinkering away with it. I'm just working out the details, really. I'm toying with the shared library at the moment and how best to handle it. A library works so well in this case because I can throw one in with each mod and that library can manage which fires when but only for the mods loaded.

The nice thing is that I've managed to keep the library small because the logic behind it is pretty simple but I want this new music system to be seamless, if one is interrupted by another, then the other will play and when that stops, the former will play again and so on. And so that certain types of music can't interrupt others, I also want to be able to do this without lots of fiddly little 'fuzzy checks'. So a library facilitates that.

I'm just carefully working them together at the moment so I won't have to make too many (if any) changes to the library once it's been released.

Thank you -

And, back on topic, I'll put together a Music Pack. Might have the original somewheres. Nothing beats Male Tauren dancing to "Peanut Butter Jelly Time"!

I'll soon be releasing Disco (DDR) and DecisiveBattle (CombatMusic). I have the preperations in place to do events and zone modules too (death music is in the works). They'll all pretty much work together and thanks to libraries, if one interrupts the other then if the interrupter stops, the interrupted will start again and so on and there are checks in place to see which can interrupt what and so on.

I have a request though, I'm wondering if anyone would care to compile and host music packs for these. If anyone's interested, just say and I'll send a PM with the info you'll need to do it. The music packs are pretty much the same as before, some of the functionality has been streamlined though so I dropped one or two instances from DecisiveBattle to make it work better and of course, there're now the Draenei and Blood Elves to consider.

(Edit): Oh and nice going Otto, Caballero is a great name and I hope it goes well. I'm familiar with Rancher so if you have any trouble getting it to work, just send me a PM and I'll do my best to help out.

Been thinking about DDR - I think the target thing is gone... AddOns can't target, but the reactive dancing should be fine.

If you could get it to output who you're dancing in response to in SCT or MSBT or WitchHunt, that'd be cool.

I've been playing with the idea of adapting Rancher to Ace2 as a first excursion to modding. Had a name even picked out - Caballero!

Indeed, I'd love to get a shot for the page and I wasn't kidding about the prize either, I'll think of something, I'm sure.

Also, regarding DDR? It's in the works, it has been for a while. I'm just fiddling with it at the moment and wondering how to implement certain features. It might be a while but I'll get it done eventually.

What would you say the most important features of it were and what would you like to see in it? I'm just curious as there are some features that seem really hard to work in and I'm wondering which would be most valued and which wouldn't really be desirable at all.

And... done!

The first person to actually get together four people, perform the multi-cadence and take a screenshot (of the chorus) to use on this very mod page will get a special prize. I haven't figured out quite what the prize is yet but no, it won't be a severed head. It'll be something much better than that.

I had the pirate song one, that one's actually a secret project. I'm thinking on how best to implement a cross-cadence between multiple people, the original song was with a number of pirates and I'd like to be able to setup a system where that could be recreated by four people, instead of just one. And if my ambitions don't pan out there, perhaps rewrite it a little to suit one person. That's why it hasn't been included so far, it's just something I've had sat next to me for a bit and I've been pondering at.

I'm thinking that perhaps it would be best to do it like I explained to Garfong, set it up so that people all using the same amount of gap between their lines can actually make it look interactive. So I'd have the song for pirate #1, pirate #2, pirate #3 and so on... all in their own cadences. What do you think is best? If the general consensus is that that song should be left alone, I'll just include it as it was. I've actually got the MP3 here though, so I'm ready to turn it into a multi-cadence if that's a good idea. It's an idea to consider anyway.

As for that link, thanks! I'll go and have a look through those now and port them over.

(Edit): I was also thinking of including a syncronisation and whitelisting system, this I know I can do but I'm curious as to what you guys think. Feedback on this would be appreciated. What I'm thinking is this, if person A has a macro (below) and persons B, C and D have person A in their whitelist, then person A can activate Cadences across multiple people simultaneously. Each person would still have to setup their queues but person A could start them. With something like...

/cadence start
/whipser Shiskabob [cadence start]
/whisper Shiskatom [cadence start]
/whisper Shiskajoey [cadence start]

In this way, all four could start their cadences at precisely the same moment.

(Edit): Okay, I got the synchronisation system in, it works like a charm. I just need to get the multi-cadence Pirate Song written up now and I need to get the manual in order, after that I'll release it and you can all have a mess around with it. If four can be gathered together for the Pirate Song, it's going to be absolutely hilarious.

Original post was from MercuryD - he had a couple I liked.
Original Thread @ WowAce

I think you'll find his on page 11 or so.

I'll see if'n I can find the Pirate Song one... I think that one was Rowne's.

I look forward to it!

And you and me both, really. The game just felt a little more dead without it. What's the point of fishing if the fishing person in question doesn't sing whilst fishing, I ask you.

(Edit): I was just reading this new cadence of yours as I was adding it in, the thing with the Orcs and parachutes is very funny. I'm reminded of San Andreas where you get to jump and parachute off that tall building. It's ten times funnier if you refuse to pull the 'chute chord. I could imagine Orcs doing that. "Wait, wot you mean me need choooooo..."

(Edit): Ah there was another thing I wanted to ask you guys! Sorry to keep posting but I guess I'm just excited that a few of the old writers are back around. I'd like to know who was responsible for what so I can credit them properly in both the manual and the defaults file, I've already signed Otto's work with his name, I'd like to be able to credit everyone else with theirs too. It's the right thing to do.
