Ok, the answer to Combo Points was very simple, and I feel stupid because I didn't think of the solution, earlier. Anyway, the feature will be in 5.9, which may be out sooner rather than later since I'm snowed in. Pray for more snow - haha.

There is no way to name the nameplates inactive; The active part of a nameplate is a secure frame, which locks down pretty much any kind of change that we can make. In fact, they don't even behave like a usual unit frame, where we can get/set attributes.

For normal mobs, you'll always get UNKNOWN, since there's no health bar coloring for them to distinguish the type. So, yeah, a MC'd player will get the unit.class value, if the plates updates during that time (it should, in combat)

I can tell you that it works, because I've tried it. The biggest problem is that the threat value changes so quickly that the data becomes out-of-date very rapidly. I'd worked around that issue by making the value fade after a certain amount of time, but that required usage of the OnUpdate event, which I've been trying to minimize....
