 default runes reappearing

I have done the Dk rune - combobar mod per Zork's tutorial, but am having a small problem - whenever I leave a vehicle the default runes appear in the upper left of the screen, as if the default player unit was still there, and requiring a /console reloadui to hide them. Does anyone know a way to fix this?
