Not sure if you've tried openSUSE since v9, but that last several versions have supplied GUI configs upon install (easy/easier than XP install) for sound, wireless detection, partitions, etc. So simple it's silly. Ubuntu also has a very strong installation process - but they are both imo similarly easy.

Don't forget - SUSE engineers developed the cube desktop (aka compiz/xgl) that you see on all other distributions and in some screenies on this thread. So, if you want the cool technology first - go SUSE. :)

Ok, enough of the sweet talk.... I'm convinced lol. :p Will give it a try after income tax check time and I've rebuilt my comp. I already had intentions of getting a smaller hard drive to dedicate to a linux box, and was going to go with Ubuntu again, but I'll give openSUSE a try (that cubed desktop is just so hawt lookin hehe).

*Edit*
Mandrake was the first linux distro I ever tried, then Suse, then FreeBSD (will never like anything better, ever), then it was Ubuntu. Mind you, I tried Mandrake about 6 years ago or so... it's been a long time. I have no clue if FreeBSD has the easy install GUI now, but if it does then I'll definitely be giving that another go lol. Meh, there's too many flavors to check out haha.

I dont think my desktop ever stays the same for very long. I constantly meddle with it.

Would you, could you, if you pretty please, share the link for the wallpaper? I really like that one hehe.

Badious 04-23-08 05:11 PM

Hmm I found the original three images from someone elses wallpaper and then edited it to add the glow to each box and such so no link to it right now, but Ill try and host it somewhere so you can download it as soon as I get a chance :)

Dreadlorde 04-23-08 05:58 PM

it's 2 screens (i believe) and I run 3360 x 1050 (2 1680x1050) at work (i do a lot of video editing)

Badious 04-24-08 07:52 AM

^^ Yeah two 20" WideScreens at 1680x1050 each. I am in the process of aquiring a larger monitor, I'd like to go with two 24" monitors soon, or one 30" but we'll see what the budget allows. I do a lot of photo editing so I like my screen real estate.

Here is a link to where you can download my wallpaper.

Dreadlorde 04-24-08 09:11 AM

Badious, what media player, shell, etc, etc are you using?

Badious 04-24-08 09:54 AM

I use Explorer.exe still for my shell. I just have the Start bar and all set to hide using ObjectDock+ so I don't ever see the start menu and system tray and such in their default form. I have a System Tray tab as you can probably see in my screen shot of which shows everything in the normal system tray.

I use Winamp for media player skinned with S1.5 and sometime S2 depending on the day. I have a transparency plug in enabled for Winamp so it is mostly transparent until mouseover.

I have a CrystalXP.net Briopack (Vista Inspirat2) applied to my normal Explorer.exe to give it the Vista look.

I also use Yahoo! Widget engine for my extra widgets seen on my desktop.

I think that's about it. Icons are all custom made by me using a combination of icons really to make them fit my needs.

Wow! I only have one 22" monitor. I do lots of graphic work too =D

But only like sig work and stuff along those lines =p

Badious 04-24-08 07:55 PM

Yeah at home I have couple of setups :) one 22" and a 19" in Portrait mode for document design. And my other machine which is mainly used by my wife for web editing has two 19" monitors on it. Sad thing is half the time she has to work with one of the 19" monitors in 1024x768 so she can assure website look ok on low resolutions.

Should start a new thread with show us your Home Office and Work Office setups :)

LOL.... which work set up would you like? i have 4 comps im on regularly

Badious 04-25-08 06:07 AM

^^Sweet :)

Well here is my home desktop screenshot, never did post this one up before.

it doesn't actually look like that on the computer itself as there is no huge gap at the bottom between my Dock and screen edge, but due to the different monitor orientations it just fills the space with black.

Llivavin 04-25-08 10:31 AM

Prism = major win for quick access to websites you vist regularly

Yeah, i do some video work ((well rather subtitling anime)) hence the MKV merge and mkvextract.

autokill.bat = kill things that load on start up... *shurgs* i'm lazy to edit what starts up.

Terdog 04-25-08 12:22 PM

This is mine. I'm a big Half Life fan. The dock at the top ofthe screen is rocket dock.
