PATCH NOTES

With minor edits

World of Warcraft PTR Patch 3.3.0

The latest test realm patch notes can always be found at http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patch...atchnotes.html

General

Icecrown Citadel

The Pit of Saron in the 5-player dungeon is currently available for testing.

Additional Icecrown Citadel dungeon and raid content will be made available in future test builds.

Dazed: Creatures attacking a player from behind can no longer cause players level 1-5 to be dazed, and have a reduced chance to cause players level 6-10 to be dazed.

Copied Test Realm characters will no longer be copied with their achievement history in order to better facilitate the character copy process.

Classes: General

Default Equipment: Starting weapons are now more uniform. Rogues now start with a pair of daggers equipped. All other classes except shamans start with a 2-handed weapon equipped and the required skill already known.

Shamans start with a 1-handed weapon and a shield, as they benefit more from the shield than they would from a 2-handed weapon.

Glancing Blows: The mage, warlock, and priest classes no longer have an increased chance for their melee attacks to be glancing blows; and the damage penalty due to their glancing blows is the same as for other classes.

Health and Mana Regeneration: These regeneration rates have been increased by up to 200% for low level characters. As a player’s level increases, the regeneration rates gradually reduce, returning to normal rates at level 15.

Spell Mana Costs: These costs have been reduced for almost all lower level spell ranks. In general, if a spell decreased in cost with a higher level rank in patch 3.2.0, that spell now has the decreased cost at all ranks. In addition, spells learned before level 20 with reduced cast times and/or durations have even further reduced mana costs, proportionate to their reduction in cast time or damage.

Races: General

Racial Attribute Bonuses: These bonuses have been recalibrated to even out the amount of starting health on the various races. All races start with a standardized level of stamina, except for orcs, dwarves, and tauren who now start with 1 extra point of stamina. For each class, bonuses and penalties to all attributes have been adjusted so that each race has an equal attribute total.

Death Knights

Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle: There is now a 1-handed version of this rune in addition to the current 2-handed rune.

Talents

Unholy

Night of the Dead: Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 45/90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Druids

Pets (mostly to do with the trees in boomkin? form)

Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Hunters

Misdirection: Redesigned. Instead of having finite charges, it now begins a 4-second timer when the hunter using Misdirection performs a threat-generating attack, during which all threat generated by the hunter goes to the friendly target. In addition, multiple hunters can now misdirect threat to the same friendly target simultaneously.

Talents

Beast Mastery

Intimidation: If the hunter’s pet is in melee range of its target, the stun from Intimidation will now be applied immediately instead of on the pet’s next swing or attack.

Pets

Avoidance: Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 30/60/90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Mages

Talents

Arcane

Arcane Empowerment: This talent now also grants 1/2/3% increased damage done by the mage’s party or raid for 10 seconds after the mage gets a critical strike with Arcane Explosion, Arcane Missiles, Arcane Barrage, or Arcane Blast. This effect is exclusive with Ferocious Inspiration and Sanctified Retribution.

Pets (those water guys and the funny ones that make think you've had 1 too many to drink)

Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Priests

Pet (that weird thing that looks like a demonic dish rag)

Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pet takes from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.

Rogues

Dual Wield: Rogues now know this ability upon logging into the game at level 1.

Stealth: This ability no longer has multiple ranks. While active, the single rank of this ability (available at level 1) allows rogues to move at 70% movement speed.

Vanish: For the first second after this ability is used, neither Vanish nor Stealth can be broken by taking damage or being the victim of a hostile spell or ability.

Warlocks

Pets

Avoidance (passive): Now reduces the damage your pets take from area-of-effect damage by 90%, but no longer applies to area-of-effect damage caused by other players.
Summon Imp: This ability is now available from the trainer for level 1 warlocks and no longer requires a quest to learn.

Warriors

Victory Rush: This ability is now trainable at level 6.

Talents

Protection

Damage Shield: This ability will no longer trigger any chance-on-hit effects from the warrior or the opponent it damages.

User Interface

Quest Tracking Feature

This system is currently under development and is not fully functional.

Looking For Group System

This feature is undergoing several improvements and is not available for testing at this time.

For additional notes on Lua and XML changes please visit the UI & Macros Forum: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/bo...;forumId=11114

Graphics

A new feature has been added to the D3D graphics engine to improve texture management (particularly for Windows XP users). This is currently enabled by default on the public test realms. For more information please visit our Test Realm forum: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/bo...Id=11572&sid=1

Professions

Enchanting

Black Magic: This enchantment now sometimes increases haste rating for the caster rather than inflicting the caster’s target with a damage-over-time effect. It is also now triggered by landing any harmful spell rather than inflicting damage with a spell.

Items

Glyphs

Death Knights

Glyph of Icy Touch: Instead of granting additional runic power, this glyph now causes Frost Fever to deal 20% additional damage.

Shamans

Glyph of Fire Nova Totem: Renamed Glyph of Fire Nova. This glyph now reduces the cooldown of Fire Nova by 3 seconds.

Bug Fixes

Druids

Rejuvenation: Rank 15 of this spell was providing a 15-second duration. It has been correctly reduced to 12 seconds.

Mages

Flame Strike: Some ranks of this spell had an incorrect cast time of 3 seconds. All ranks now share a 2-second cast time.

HOW TO INSTALL THE PTR

IF YOU STILL HAVE A WORLD OF WARCRAFT PUBLIC TEST FOLDER FROM LAST TIME:

You should be able to just open the Launcher in the "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder.

This will download a program called "WoW-0.3.0.10522-enUS-ptr-patch" which will be about 1.4 GB (heh big content patch lols)

IF INSTALLING FOR THE FIRST TIME:

This is copy and pasted from last content patch we had. Names have changed a bit. Please note I don't know what all the patch file names are as mirrors aren't up yet for me to check against. Also this guide assumes you want to reinstall the PTR hence step 1.

For Mac OS X replace .exe with .app

0) If you are reinstalling drag any files starting with "WoW-0.3.0" in your "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder to a safe location EG the desktop.

1) Delete any and all "wowtest" and "World of Warcraft Public Test" folders you may have.

2) If on an OS that allows you to do so go to your Live Wow folder and right click the wow.exe program there. Select "Run as Adminstrator". Log into a toon. Then log out. This step is to make sure your registry is all up to date

3) Run the downloader file (WoW-3.0.1.8874-PTR-US-Installer-downloader.exe) . It will ask you for a location for where to put the "3.0.1.8874 US PTR Installer" folder. Please remember where you put this folder for the next step.

Skip this if you already have this downloaded from before or have downloaded it from a mirror.

4) After the downloader has completed downloading into the folder "3.0.1.8874 US PTR Installer" open that folder and run "Blizzard Updater.exe"

5) Choose any location with enough space to install the PTR client onto (15-20gb free space)

6) The installer will install the 3.01 PTR inside a folder called "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder. This folder should be installed outside your live wow folder.

7) Open that folder and open the launcher (Launch.exe or Launcher.app)

8) The launcher will download some updated tools and files in a "patch.mpq" file in the wow public test folder.

9) Run the PTR from that folder by opening the Green Test icon. If on Vista you might want to do a Right Click-> Run as administrator. The version number down the bottom of the PTR login screen should read "Version 0.01 (8874)"

10) Login and it should download the downloader for WoW-0.3.0.10522-enUS-ptr-patch.exe . This is 1.4GBish in size.

If you've already downloaded it from a mirror or had it backed up from before just quit the downloader and copy that file into your "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder (replacing the one the downloader started to download).

11) If the Launcher from the "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder isn't running then open it. This should automatically open WoW-0.3.0.10522-enUS-ptr-downloader.exe program or the Background Downloader.exe .

This will allow do a integrity check on the file you downloaded. After it's
done it will automatically run WoW-0.3.0.10522-enUS-ptr-patch.exe to patch the PTR.

12) If it's your first time installing you'll need to download a seperate updater for each build that has been pushed out to the PTR.

A build is like a mini patch. Its where the devs activate new features and, put out bug fixes and the like. You can't login without being at the latest build. Each build updater can only update the build before it.

Details of the builds are in the thread below. Your patience with this is appreciated. Always start up the PTR from the Launcher.exe inside the "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder.

Just have some patience and wait for it to update. It will repeat the process of opening the Launcher , downloading an update , applying until it is at the latest build.

As of 22 November the latest build is 10835. Pay attention to the top of the launcher window where the last 5 digits of the title is the build number. From now I will not be updating this post with the build numbers so just see my replies to this thread as to what build is the latest.

13) If reinstalling take the files you dragged to the desktop in Step 0 and put em back in the "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder. Close down any PTR patch updaters before starting tho. Then start up the Launcher.exe from the "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder

14) Wait for the Launcher to completely update to build 10835 (as of 22 November 2009 17:35 NZST) . The patching process will repeat until it is at the latest build. You can see which build the PTR is at by looking at the top of the launcher window where the title of the window is.

The last 5 digits of this will be the build number. Just wait until the PTR launcher has stopped updating. From this edit I will not be updating this particular post with the latest build number. My last post about the a new build you can assume to be the latest build

From there you should be golden.

WHAT TO DO WHEN NEW BUILDS ARE PUSHED OUT

Open the PTR from the Launcher inside the "World of Warcraft Test" folder.

Back when I was actively answering posts on the PTR I was seriously answering at least 2 posts a day when people were having problems installing with this advice. Also it's been confirmed by a Blizzard rep that's pretty much their preferred way to push out new builds.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS COMMON FIXES

Getting logged out immediately after logging into a toon

Log back in as quick as you can seems to be the fix going around the forums !

FIX FOR ERROR : WORLD OF WARCRAFT NOT FOUND PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS PROPERLY INSTALLED

You get this error when you have registry keys missing that tell other programs where you have World of Warcraft installed.

Should be simple to fix :

Go to your World of Warcraft folder. Right click the wow.exe there. Go Run as Administrator (or similar option). Once at the login screen log in and log into a toon. Then log out and quit the live client.

Now try opening the PTR from the Launcher inside your "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder.

If that doesn't work you may need to look into other ways of updating the registry

FIX FOR THIS ERROR WHILE PATCHING :

Q u o t e:

It requires a version of "WoW.exe" older than <<PTR VERSION>>, but you already have version <<LIVE VERSION>>.

Your Registry is confusing Live with the PTR so is hence attempting to update the PTR to your Live WOW Install.

This is why PTR version numbers begin with 0 - you can't add +1 to something and get 0 after all (at least for non negative numbers)

Should be simple to fix.

If you get one similar to it but mentioning two PTR build versions do the same thing except also do the same thing for the wow.exe inside your "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder

FIX FOR ERROR "WRATH ENABLED ACCOUNT BUT NO WRATH DATA" DESPITE HAVING WRATH DEFINITELY INSTALLED

Usaully you get this error when you're installing the 3.01 PTR for the first time.

What it means is the file "lichking.mpq" is missing or damaged from the Data folder inside your "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder.

You should be able to just grab a copy of that file from your live installation of wow's Data folder and just copy it to the Data folder of your "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder.

Make sure you are grabbing a COPY out of World of Warcraft\Data

Don't MOVE it COPY it.

FIX FOR ERROR "APPLICATION HAS FAILED TO START , CONFIGURATION INFORMATION INCORRECT"

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...08352&sid=1#14

Credit to Lothy of Mug'thol realm :

replace "Microsoft.VC80.CRT.manifest" file in your PTR directory with one from your Live directory.

SOLUTION FOR ERROR "WORLD OF WARCRAFT COULD NOT BE FOUND PLEASE MAKE SURE THE GAME IS PROPERLY INSTALLED"

Usaully you get this error when you have registry keys missing that tell other programs where you have World of Warcraft installed.

Should be simple to fix.

Also I made a behemoth of a thread with other common PTR Errors & fixes here :

http://community.livejournal.com/wor...t/7931728.html

My LJ post includes solutions for the following errors :

"WRATH ENABLED ACCOUNT BUT NO WRATH DATA" , "FAILURE TO APPLY PATCH" , "I'M STUCK AT HANDSHAKING HELP !" , "THE LAUNCHER DISAPPEARS AT 70%" , "THIS UPDATE REQUIRES 0.2.0.XXXX BUT YOU ALREADY HAVE AN NEWER VERSION 3.2.2 BLAH BLAH", "THE PATCHER IS WAITING FOR FILES TO CLOSE" , "WORLD OF WARCRAFT COULD NOT BE FOUND PLEASE MAKE SURE THE GAME IS PROPERLY INSTALLED" . "DOCTOR I HAVE A DUCK ON MY HEAD AND A RADISH IN MY EAR"

Erm ... except for the last one. Answer to the last one is your'e insane ba boom boom ching !

SECRET ABOUT THE MAC DOWNLOADER :

You can look inside it for a torrent file :)

1) Right click the downloader app
2) Go "Show Package Contents"
3) In the window that comes up open the "Contents" folder then the "Resources" folder inside it
4) Copy the file "downloader.torrent" to the desktop.
5) Take that torrent file and put it into your favourite torrent client \o/

ADDONS WORKING OR NOT ON THE PTR

Interesting question this.

The PTR only just come out. As far as I know the diff files haven't been released yet. These are files that tell the addon authors what's changed in 3.3. Yes there's tools out there to tell them directly.

The point I'm making here is that's early days for addons on the PTR. They may work they might not work.

The best thing is to do these x things below :

1) Don't install too many. Take a few like one or two.

2) Learn the site where the author posts beta updates to . For curse that will be either Curseforge or Wowace. Wow interface will be this site.

3) Expect it to break when you install it. Make sure you turn on "Load Out of Date addons"

4) Put em in "World of Warcraft Public Test" folder -> Interface->Addons

5) If they do break make sure you provide decent feedback to the author. Include a error report if it comes up in game. You could also use a bug grabbing error like Bugsack/BugGrabber or Swatter to capture them.

If there is a ticket system submit a ticket there. If possible put down how you made the error appear. Remember nothing frustrates a developer more than a ticket submitted with "It does not work" as the sole problem. Be verbose. Be helpful. Get on the IRC channel if necessary (we're a mostly friendly bunch who hang out on irc.freenode.org #wowuidev channel)

Remember that by using addons on the PTR you're pretty much paving the way for the new versions that will come out for them to work once 3.3 goes live. If they do break make sure you give the addon authors a little helping hand a :) ?

>_>

<_<

Well that wasn't as brief as I wanted it to be. Awwweeee shut up Torhal

QQ Shamans looks likes you got missed out on the Patch notes update for buld 10554

Quote:

Shamans

* Fire Nova Totem:

This totem has been replaced with a new spell, Fire Nova, which is available at the same ranks as the old Fire Nova Totem. Existing characters will automatically learn this new spell in place of the totem. With a Fire Totem active, shamans will be able to use Fire Nova (fire magic) to emit the same area-of-effect damage as the old Fire Nova Totem from the active Fire Totem, not consuming the totem in the process. Fire Nova will activate a 1.5-second global cooldown when used and has a 10-second spell cooldown. The caster must be within 30 yards of the totem to use this ability, but does not need to be within line of sight of the totem.

* Talents
o Elemental Combat

+ Improved Fire Nova Totem: Renamed Improved Fire Nova. This talent now provides an additional 10/20% damage to the spell and reduces the cooldown by 2/4 seconds.

NEW BUILD 0.3.3.10571

CHANGES IN THIS BUILD :

Druid

Rebirth: The cooldown on this spell has been lowered from 20 minutes down to 10 minutes. Cannot be used in Arenas.

Gift of the Earthmother: Redesigned. This talent now increases spell haste by 2/4/6/8/10% instead of its previous effect.

Hunter

Call Stabled Pet: Cooldown reduced from 30 minutes to 5 minutes. Cannot be used in Arenas.

Mage

Improved Scorch: The debuff from this talent no longer stacks, and instead can apply the full effect from a single cast of Scorch.

Priest

Power Word: Shield; This spell can now be cast on non-raid/party friendly targets.

Improved Devouring Plague: This spell now deals 10/20/30% of its total periodic effect instantly, up from 5/10/15%.

Shadowform: This talent also now causes Devouring Plague, Shadow Word: Pain, and Vampiric Touch to benefit from haste. Both the period length and the duration of these spells will be reduced by haste. In addition, the mana cost has been reduced from 32% to 13% of base mana.

Vampiric Embrace: This ability is now provides a 30-minute buff that cannot be dispelled, instead of a target debuff.

Shaman

Reincarnation: The cooldown on this spell has been lowered from 60 minutes down to 50 minutes (Improved Reincarnation will continue to lower the cooldown by 10/20 minutes).

Warlock

Create Soulstone: The cooldown on this spell and duration of its buff have been lowered from 30 minutes down to 15 minutes. Cannot be used in Arenas.

Decimation: Redesigned. When Shadowbolt, Incinerate or Soul Fire hit a target that is at or below 35% health, the cast time of Soul Fire is reduced by 20/40% for 8 seconds. Soul Fires cast under the effect of Decimation cost no shards.

Molten Core: Redesigned. Shadow spells and damage-over-time effects have a 12% chance to increase the damage done by Incinerate by 5/10/15% and Soul Fire by 4/7/10% for 12 seconds. In addition, Molten Core now has a new spell effect.

User Interface

Non spell-based tracking now persists through logout.

Any party member may mark raid targets.

Users will be warned when their talents are reset due to a new patch.

“/Settitle” command has been added.

Instant quest text is on by default.

“Tentative” status added for calendar responses.

Players below level 10 may not join raids.

Ignore list expanded to 50 to match the friends list.

Unit frames added for special encounters.

Interface element added next to the mini-map to show what dungeon you
are in (ex: 10- and 25-player Heroic dungeons marked with a skull).

Experience earned for a quest will display in the Quest Rewards section.

Confirmation box added when buying stable slots.

Macro Changes

Symbol “@” added as a synonym for “target=”;. For example, “/cast [@focus] Flash Heal”.

New macro conditionals: “vehicleui” (if the player has a vehicle UI) and “unithasvehicleui” (if the target of the macro has a vehicle UI).

Character and Creature Nameplates

The range at which players can see nameplates has been significantly expanded.

You can no longer see nameplates through objects which block line of sight.

As long as you are able to peer through the doorway of a room, you will see nameplates of characters and creatures in that room.

Pillars and bridges in Arenas will not hide friendly or enemy nameplates.

Totem nameplates can be toggled off under “PRODUCTION” settings via “Interface Options” on the test realms.

Instead of nameplates for large groups of players or creatures trying to sort themselves, they will now overlap. This functionality can be toggled off under “PRODUCTION” settings via “Interface Options” on the test realms.

Addon Author Changes

“registerForClicks” added to xml buttons.

“MouseIsOver” has been converted to a “C” function for increased efficiency (e.g. /dump PlayerFrame:IsMouseOver() ).

When an addon file is loaded, the addon name and an addon table are passed to the file through ‘…’. The same addon table is passed to every file loaded by a particular TOC file (example at the top of a Lua file: “local addonName, addonTable = …;”.

“motionScriptsWhileDisabled” attribute added to buttons. This allows “OnEnter”; and “OnLeave”; to fire while the button is disabled.

“GetFileHeight()” and “GetFileWidth()” added to Texture objects. 0 is returned if no texture file is associated with the texture.

You can now query for a list of completed quests with “QueryQuestsCompleted()” then wait for the “QUEST_QUERY_COMPLETE” event, and call “GetQuestsCompleted(<luatable>)”.

That's going to be fun when someone in the party is abusing it. Like putting someone putting one above someone's head , someone else removing it , the same person putting it back again.

Just imagine a raid pull where someone switchs the DPS targets! Yeah a new one to get DKP points taken off you :)

Quote:

Oh yay. No more running into battle and going "why am doing 1% of the DPS I was doing before ?"

Is this a sign of more complicated macros to come needing space?

IE 8 characters down to 1 :)

Possibly some traffic savings due to only having to send one character as opposed to 8 characters. Especially with people spamming macros everywhere.

NEW BUILD 10596

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...s-update-1016/
http://www.wowhead.com/?blog=126326

Has nice summary of the changes

Possibly the only major stuff I can see is :

Quote:

The following reputations have been sped up by roughly 30%:
Argent Crusade
Alliance Vanguard
Horde Expedition
Kirin Tor
Knights of the Ebon Blade
Sons of Hodir
Wyrmrest Accord

Sons of Hodir quests now give more reputation overall.

Top-level helm and shoulder faction-related enchants are now available as

Bind-on-Account items that do not require any faction to use once purchased (they still require the appropriate faction level to purchase).

Reputation commendations can now be purchased for 1 Emblem of Triumph each.

Mage

Glyph of Eternal Water: This glyph allows for a summoned Water Elemental to last indefinitely, but it can no longer cast Freeze.
There's some other stuff I might of missed that's significant so if you wanna post on it please do so.

Hatchlings: Leaping, Darting, Razormaw, and Ravasaur Hatchlings no longer drop from their associated rare creatures. Instead, there are now rare nests that spawn which contain these hatchlings. For example, the Leaping Hatchling can now be found in Takk’s Nest rather than as a drop from Takk the Leaper.
There's some other new stuff there but I kinda skipped over it

PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS

The first beta version of the new LFG tool is out.

I think they might still be working on it but here is what you get :

* 4 Icons up the top denoting what role you want to play in a group (tank, dps, lead, heals)
* You get a droup down to select a specific dungeon or a random dungeon
* Random LK dungeon or heroic gets you a quest to get 2 badges and 49 G
* There isn't any rewards for doing Classic or BC Dungeons but I could be wrong ... I might just be the wrong level for it or that might be coming in a later build

* Specific dungeon gives you a scrolling list of all dungeons. That is ALL dungeons. Yes that means you can queue your 80 for say Deadmines. They really need to improve this so that high high level toons aren't queued onto ridiculously low level dungeons for their level. You can use a check box to say if you want to queue for that dungeon. Yes you can select more then 3

* Some dungeons have a lock beside them. Mousing over them you see it tells you you need better gear to queue to go there.

Also there seems to be an airship in the Alterecs Mountains zone just down from Gavin's Naze :

http://picasaweb.google.com/Bluspace...erecMountains#

I posted about it in the O.forums but the post was locked :(. Oooooo mystery :)

I'm not sure if this is good, bad, or even necessary.

Anything that stops people from noobing others through runs is a plus to me. As I consider this, if it means a level 10 or 12 can't be noobed through Deadmines, then yes, it's high time they stop this nonsense. Then again, I favor party level caps for dungeons. For example, a level 80 can go beat the piss out of Scarlet Monastery all he wants by himself but if he joins a group, he cant go with anyone below his own level ;)

Maybe this is an effort to get people to run things as they are intended? If so, great news. If not, oh well, I don't really care.

Torhal 10-21-09 05:07 AM

It appears, from the wording in the patch notes, that this only affects the queue for the new LFG tool.

NEW BUILD 10676

Whew this one's a big updated lots of stuff.

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...s-update-1023/

There have been a whole raft of changes from class changes to achievement changes.

I haven't got the time to copy and paste it all. It's all in that MMO champion link.

For now I'm going to concentrate on the highlights of it

HIGHLIGHTS :

Quote:

Knockbacks no longer dismount players. If on a flying mount, you will be knocked back a short distance before being able to resume flying.
Finally. Possibly a dumbing down of the game but no more then they've been doing a lot of recently. I can't tell you how many times I've been flying over an area and been shot down :(

Quote:

Tutorial System: The tutorial pop-ups are now larger, contain images, and better try to direct players to the relevant locations or user interface elements on the screen. In addition, several new tips have been added, while some existing tips will now appear at more appropriate times for new players.
This feature's actually really cool. It's like having someone show you how to play the game. You click on various things , do certain things and a big tool tip comes up. Some of the time it will have a picture of what you need to look for with things highlighted. EG when it talks about HP/Mana it highlights your character frame. When talking about opening the quest frame it highlights the little quest icon thingy on your tool bar. When talking about looting it has a picture of the thing you just killed with the loot cursor icon there and instructs you to right click it. It even has a picture of the mouse with the left mouse button held down.

Roll a new toon on the PTR and give it a whirl !

Other interesting stuff :

Quote:

Many of the default Interface Options settings have been changed for greater ease of use by new players. Existing players who create new characters may want to review the Interface Options in the event that the default settings feel different.

Buffs and Debuffs: This is a new section added to Interface Options.

New option - Castable Debuffs: Enabling this will cause only debuffs you have cast on an enemy target to appear.

New option - Consolidate Buffs: Enabling this adds a buff consolidation box near the mini-map. Very short term buffs (e.g. Replenishment) and very long term buffs (e.g. Prayer of Fortitude) are filtered into the buff box. The icons are stacked here, but they can still be seen by moving the mouse cursor over the buff box. Long term buffs will move out of the box when they are about to expire. Buffs such as important procs (e.g. Art of War, Lightning Overload), cooldowns (e.g. Bloodlust / Heroism, Combustion) or limited in range (e.g. totems and paladin auras) are always displayed.
Dungeon & Raid Difficult Display: A group’s dungeon or raid difficulty setting will now be displayed via an icon off of the mini-map.

Group Disenchanting Option: In addition to rolling “Need” or “Greed” on items, players now have the option to elect for an item to be disenchanted. “Disenchant” works exactly like “Greed” except if a player wins the “Greed” roll, they will receive the disenchanted materials instead. Players who choose “Need” will always win the item and will always beat those that choose “Greed” or “Disenchant.”

Lag Reports: Players can now report high latency or lag by accessing the Help Request menu.

Professions

Fishing

The all-new Kalu’ak Fishing Derby, a test of fishing skill with a healthy dash of luck, has come to Northrend! Every Wednesday beginning at 8 PM players can try to catch the elusive Blacktip Shark. Elder Clearwater sits in Dalaran for one hour awaiting the return of the quickest, most experienced fisher to bring him this shark. This champion fisher will be rewarded in-kind for returning with the first catch. Those who aren’t able to return with the first catch will still receive just reward for getting the Blacktip Shark to Elder Clearwater before he takes his leave. It is said that these sharks’ favorite meal are the bite-sized Pygmy Suckerfish. Perhaps a hook in their waters will do the trick.
And that's JUST the highlights.

Lastly the Glyph Vendors have finally been updated with all the glyphs they need and also the new ones. They had glyphs they haven't had before like Glyph of Arcane Blast.

zork 10-24-09 08:00 AM

UnitFrame authors may need to adjust the following.

Blizzard changed the global names of their ToT frames.

NEW BUILD 10712

As usual mmo champion has the major changes prettily well summarised :

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...r-build-10712/

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...s-1027-update/

Possibly the major highlight is changes to the new LFG / LFR system.

NOT SURE IF THIS IS ACTIVE ON THE CURRENT BUILD AS IT WASN'T WORKING FOR ME

Dungeon System

This feature has replaced the Looking For Group tool and provides all-new dungeon party creation functionality.

Players can join as individuals, as a full group, or a partial group to look for additional party members.

Groups using this tool will be able to teleport directly to the selected instance. Upon leaving the instance, players will be returned to their original location. If any party member needs to temporarily leave the instance for reagents or repairs, they will have the option to teleport back to the instance.

Players can choose the Random Dungeon option.

The Heroic Wrath of the Lich King Daily Random Dungeon option will award two Emblems of Frost no more than once a day.

The normal Wrath of the Lich King Daily Random Dungeon option will award two Emblems of Triumph no more than once a day.

Continuing to complete Wrath of the Lich King Heroic instances using the
Daily Random Dungeon option will award players two additional Emblems of Triumph each time.

Daily Heroic and normal dungeon quests have been removed. These quests have been replaced with weekly raid quests (see the "Quests" section for details).

Level-appropriate rewards will be offered to players who choose the Random Dungeon option for pre-Wrath of the Lich King dungeons.

Players can be placed in a group for a random dungeon no more than once every 15 minutes.

Random Dungeon rewards will be placed in each player's inventory automatically upon completion of the dungeon (final boss killed). A pop-up notification will display any rewards earned through the Dungeon System.

Instead of choosing a random dungeon, players can also choose specific dungeons appropriate for their level range. Multiple instances can be selected at one time. The feature no longer limits the choice to look for only 3 dungeon groups at one time.

Pick-Up Groups

Cross-realm instances are now available and use an improved matchmaking system to assist players in looking for additional party members. As with
Battlegrounds, the realms in each Battlegroup are connected.
As part of the matchmaking system, some of the more difficult dungeons will have a minimum gear requirement. Players also need to meet the
requirements for dungeons that require attunement, such as keys or quests.

If a player does not meet the requirements for a particular dungeon, a lock icon will be displayed next to that dungeon. Hovering over this icon will display the requirements which have not been met.

Only conjured items and loot dropped in a dungeon for which other party members are eligible can be traded between players from different realms.

A Vote Kick feature will be available in the event a member of a party is not performing to the expectations of the other members.

Players who leave the group prematurely are subject to a Deserter debuff preventing them from using the Dungeon System tool for 15 minutes.

If an existing group loses a member, the leader will be asked if he or she wants to continue the dungeon. Choosing to continue will automatically place the group back into the Dungeon System queue.

A Player will not be placed in a group with people on his or her Ignore list.

Players who take part in groups who have one or more members who have been matched with them randomly from within the Dungeon System will receive extra rewards, up to and including the coveted Perky Pug non-combat pet. The more random players with whom one groups, the faster the pet can be obtained.

The Need Before Greed loot system will be the unalterable default looting system for pick-up groups in the Dungeon System and has been updated.

Need Before Greed will now recognize gear appropriate for a class in three ways: the class must be able to equip the item, pure melee will be unable to roll on spell power items, and classes are limited to their dominant armor type (ex. paladins for plate). All items will still be available via Greed rolls as well as the new Disenchant option should no member be able to use the item.

Players will be able to roll on items with a required minimum level higher than a player's current level.

Looking For Raid

There is a new Looking For Raid option available to players that can be accessed via the Raid Information screen in the interface or by typing “/LFR.”

Players will be able to browse the system manually for any other players looking for a raid dungeon group.

While browsing LFR players may sort the list ascending or descending by left-clicking the following headers: Name, Level, Class, Tank Role, Healer Role, and Damage Role. The crown is the Leader Role (representing a raid group with 2 or more people). Players can left-click on this header to sort the list with groups at the top or at the bottom.

Hovering over players listed in LFR will display their name, class, level, roles and comments. Hovering over a raid/group will display the leader's name, the raid information (number of people the raid), comments, if there are any bosses dead (and which ones), and if there are any friends from your Friends list or ignored players from your Ignore list in the raid group.

The Looking For Group chat channel has returned and can be accessed in all major cities (similar to the Trade chat channel) without the use of the Dungeon system interface.

Players may only be queued or listed in one of the following systems at a time: Dungeons, LFR, Battlegrounds, or Arenas.

Ignore List: The amount of characters a person can ignore has been increased to 50. In addition, players on other realms can be placed on the Ignore list.

NEW BUILD 10747

Patch notes have been updated @

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...Id=20126978820

As usual MMO champion has the new changes highlighted :

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...s-update-1103/

Possibly the biggest Highlights I can see are listed below :

* New Pug dog non combat pet for running random dungeons through the newe Dungeon System

http://static.mmo-champion.com/mmoc/...ctober/peg.jpg

* Meeting Stones: To use any Meeting Stone, it is only required that the character’s minimum level be 15. There is no maximum character level requirement for any Meeting Stone.

There is possibly more interesting stuff but you'll have to look up the mmo champion page yourself :)

Observations from 10747 :
Disclaimer : Tested this on build 10747. Some changes might of course had come on a previous build but I didn't personally test them. What follows may change on a later build.

Gave the new buff options a go. It will now group buffs. These will appear under a single icon that when you mouse over them will show the buffs underneath it. Tried it out with Horn of Winter and it had a golden icon with a "1" on it. Mousing over it showed the normal Horn of Winter icon.

The new tutorials are pretty friggin cool. They now have a Prev and Next button on them. The Icon down below has a number on it for how many tips you haven't looked at. You can also page back to previous ones in case you've forgotten something.

The timing of them seems to be a little better then previous threads but seems a little off in places. On my Testcow toon it didn't show the flash card for Spells & Abilities until I had killed my 2 Cougar. Did it expect me to melee everything until then ??

The new Quest Helper like feature appears to had a lot of work done on it.
When you track a quest it appears in the objectives tracker with a numbered button on it. Pressing this button brings up the world map with the area you need to look in on the map highlighted with the same numbered icon in the rough centre of it.

EG if you're tracking a quest and the quest appears in the objective tracker as "3" there will be a "3" button on the tracker. Clicking opens the map with the area you need for the quest highlighted in Blue and a "3" icon in the rough centre of it.

When you complete a quest you are tracking it automatically starts tracking the next one in the chain. A nice feature.

The map also has quests on the left and the text of the quest down the bottom. When not tracking any quests it appears to disappear , reverting back to the old style map.

There's also a Southwest pointing arrow icon at the top of the map that converts it into a smaller Cartographer like map window. Not moveable by default nor can it seems be able to right click it to unlock it. The small version is still using the same frame names so it should in theory be possible to move it with a frame moving addon.

Also the quest tracking feature appears to work via zone. That is if your not in the zone for the quests you are tracking then it doesn't do the whole number buttons on the OT and icons on the map. If you change the zone your map displays to the one which you are tracking quests for the map changes to bring up the quest tracker icons and stuff.

All in all the quest tracking features are coming on nicely. Would be nice to have a single preference to turn them all off tho - I had to turn all the options in the Objectives screen in Interface options before they went away.

NEW BUILD 10772

As per usual I get up from a long sleep and a new build has been pushed out to the PTR. Seems only yesterday we got the last build.

Patch notes have been updated @

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/th...Id=20126978820

MMO champion has the new changes highlighted :

http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...s-update-1105/

Highlights of build 10772

* Arenas : All abilities that have base cooldowns of 10 minutes or longer cannot be used in Arenas, down from 15 minutes.

* Players no longer need to kill the final bosses in all four wings of this dungeon in order to teleport to Sapphiron. Teleportation orbs have been added to allow players access back and forth from Sapphiron's lair.

* The new quest tracking features have formally been added to the patch notes :

Quote:

Quest Log

A Show Map button has been added to the Quest Log. Selecting a quest and pressing this button will open the map for the zone in which the quest objective is located displaying the associated area of interest. Any other active quests in a player’s Quest Log for that zone will also be displayed.
Map

The map interface has been separated into four separate panes: a map pane (left), a pane listing active quest names for the zone being viewed (right), a pane listing the full quest text for any highlighted quest (bottom left), and a pane listing the quest rewards for any highlighted quest (bottom right).

All active quests listed in the right pane for the zone being viewed on the map will be assigned a number. These numbers will be displayed on the map according to the areas of interest for each quest.

Highlighting a quest name in the right pane will highlight the corresponding area of interest on the map in the left pane, show its quest text in the lower left pane, and list the quest rewards in the lower right pane.

Given that some quest objectives can be achieved in multiple locations within a given zone, highlighting such a quest will highlight an area of interest closest in proximity to the character’s current location.
This feature can be disabled by un-checking the Show Quest Objectives box in the bottom right corner of the new map interface, restoring the map to its standard full-screen display.

Clicking on the arrow in the top right corner of the new map interface will hide all but the map pane, bringing the map out of full-screen mode and allowing players to leave it open while navigating a zone or engaging in combat.

Objectives Tracking

This frame has been improved to offer new functionality and can be used with the new shrunken map option.

The Objectives frame is now docked below the mini-map next to the right 2 action bars and will track up to 12 quests for a zone.
Numbers have been added next to each quest name and objective corresponding with those areas of interest displayed on the map.
If a quest objective has been completed, the number will be replaced with a yellow question mark symbol.

The arrow button in the top right corner of the Objectives frame can be used to toggle between minimizing and maximizing the quest objective display.

Quest Difficulty Tracking

This feature is off by default and can be enabled in the Objectives window from the Interface Options menu. Turning this feature on will color-code all quest names displayed in the map interface according to difficulty (grey, green, yellow, orange, and red).
What's different for me for the quest tracking features from last build

* Show objectives button on map : To turn the quest panes off and on. Very Niiiiiiice.

* Up to 12 quests a zone on the objective tracker ? I thought you could currently do more by making the box large enough. But then again who really needs to track more than 12 quests per zone ? With it currently parented to the minimap you wouldn't want to be tracking many quests anyway. I don't like how they've made so you can' unlock the objective track anymore :( You can shrink it but that's about it

* Area highlighted will be the closest to you. Kinda missed this change.

* Shows where to turn in a quest to (yay :) )

* The new objectives tracker remembers what quests you are tracking ...even after log out. Finally !!!!

Also the disconnection problems people were having appears to be gone :)

Bug Fixes section updated
MMO champion post : http://www.mmo-champion.com/news-2/p...r-build-10835/

Just in case the MMOC post doesn't get updated here's the stuff Boubouille missed :

PRIESTS

Shadowform:

This talent also now causes Devouring Plague and Vampiric Touch to benefit from haste. Both the period length and the duration of these spells will be reduced by haste. In addition, the mana cost has been reduced from 32% to 13% of base mana.

SHAMAN

Elemental Mastery:

This talent now increases spell haste by 15% instead of critical strike chance while active.

New LFG Tool now called Dungeon Finder

NEW D3D GRAPHICS BACKEND :

A new feature has been added to the D3D graphics engine to improve texture management (particularly for Windows XP users). If you are experiencing random crashes related to file read errors or out of memory, this new backend may help. To enable the new backend, add the following line to your Config.WTF file: SET gxApi "d3d9ex". For more information please visit our Test Realm forum:

Good news everyone !

You can now move that reduced World Map frame by turning on an option and right clicking the title :)

NEW BUILD 10952

Yet another build. Nothing really new in this build, only changes from the official notes going live and a few tweaks.

It's looking better and better for a next week release - this build has the version string down the bottom left has been changed to "Version 0.3.0 (10952) (PTR - Release) Nov 30 2009"

Note the "Release" part :)

ricks322 12-02-09 06:51 AM

Still seams a little early for a release. The pre-downloaded patches are only 656MB (as of Dec 1). I would still give it 2 weeks at best, unless there is a flurry of updater activity in the next few days.

The issues with the pre patch download didn't have anything to do with the patch data itself but the mechanism used to distribute the patch.

The patch data itself is in the MPQ files inside the data folder.

The Blizzard tools are programs that are independent of that patch data ie the Client , Updater, Launcher and Background downloader.

The client does facilitate the loading of data in and out of the Data folder but the problems people were having were not with the client but with the Launcher, Updater and Background downloader.

On the PTR I haven't seen any problems patching what so ever - there has been 12 builds pushed out and every one of them got installed on my computer painlessly (*). Neither have I seen many posts in the O forums about a particular build updater bugging out.

The upshot is if people have their problems with the Blizzard tools (other then the client) they should not have any problems come Patch Day.

(*) I won't say they were installed quickly as I'm on a slow computer :(

I've had an issue with the Launcher since the previous two live patches which also exists with the PTR Launcher - all of the directory permissions are wiped out and have to be re-set each time the Launcher is run. Then again, I'm running Linux so YMMV.

That's why manual download options exist :)

You can bypass the Background downloader by opening the Background.torrent torrent file in the cache folder in the wow folder in a torrent client. That's one solution off the top of my head.

There's a few other solutions but they are pretty much all player supplied IE Unofficial and not sanctioned by Blizzard

How many Blizzard players use the XP operating system ? I would expect to see a lot more threads in the Official forums if it really wasn't working for all XP users like you state.

Regardless this still means the blizzard tools not downloading the pre patch data is a separate issue and not one relevant to this thread. There is a thread about the pre patch download that I have written btw.

They can fix the tools independently of the 3.3 patch.

I've seen a few posts on the Tech support forums for the US realms with resolutions. I also see a few blizzard reps assisting those that are having trouble. I've so only found 2 thread about it in the first 5 pages - all chock full of player supplied solutions.

If the issue really was as bad as you think there would be way more threads about it then there already is. I don't believe that Blizzard is ignoring this problem or that none of the reps are helping people. Just that they probably have way too many threads to answer that relate to the Live realms so they choose their battle carefully.
