Mod Author WotLK Beta Key Give-Away discussion thread
Since we needed one last time, I'll go ahead and start one for this time as well.
WotLK Beta Author guilds US PvE (Northrend server) Alliance: <Secure Templars> Horde: <WTB API PST> EU PvE (Coldarra server) Alliance: <Tainted and Secure> Horde: <Restricted Crusade> |
Who do I have to blow to get the first batch of names sent in early?
|
What is the amount of people per batch?

LOL @ Tekkub. :)
Awesome to see WoWI do this again. Unfortunately compilation authors aren't eligible this year but, meh I guess. |
Good luck modders!
|
This is so awesome! I wonder when the first batch will be sent out. I hope I'm in it!

Not-quite-related-and-extremely-silly-and-probably-stupid question here, but if I get into the beta (which is highly unlikely, but still) and re-write some of my own mods, am I still able to upload them to the new WotLK Beta DL page? Or is that page reserved at first for those who WOWI gives beta keys, then eventually open to everyone else?
I doubt it would be closed like that, but I felt I had to ask anyway. :D |

Seriously though, if you do more than just zip together a bunch of addons (what most do)... but instead actually include some sort of config addon or such that is an actual addon, even if it depends on the other addons in the package, I would think you can make the argument that you ARE a dev. It's the people that just package up a bunch of addons they want their guild to use and post it up here for the free hosting that shouldn't be allowed to get a key from this. Or, at least, that's my crappy opinion. |

I will go back to lurking now. |

Plus their not exactly going to be able to develop their compilation with none existent wotlk addons are they. |

I tend to agree. I've had a compilation for an awful long time but have never claimed to have created any of it. I package and support. I gotta admit that I hate those packages that just have the Interface folder zipped up with all that extra/default garbage; they should just be deleted. For some reason Blizz doesn't want me to beta test any of their software. I didn't get into either of the first two, even though I have an extensive testing history over the years (SWG, Ryzom, FFXI, LotRO, Eve, anarchy online, etc.) Perhaps I should crack open that AutoFollow addon I was meddling with... ;) |

Though I do wonder the answer to the second one, myself. Also, are keys sent out first-come-first-served (assuming the ticket numbers given after submission indicate what place in line you're at)? |
I'm so glad that I don't have to code "blind" for the expansion, especially with me having a new addon in the works.
Any chance someone's gonna go and make an addon author-only guild on the beta server(s)? :D |
Oh oh oh, name the guild <Addon Developer> :)

Sorry, I think I'm too excited. |
As for a guild, I'd say <Lua Ninjas>
I kid, I kid... Quote:
Oh course it's disturbing! Especially when combined with Tek's obsession with bacon... ETA: forgot to say, I'd say that keys given by/gotten from a site, either for authors or for a contest, would go out asap, in whatever next push comes after the naming of them. Then again, I'm one to assume that the first wave of invites was for people who won the contests/bought the laptop/went to blizzcon (if that's what that beta will be for.) |

Fine, name the guild <It's BACON!> ... too bad puncuation isn't allowed <Big Bear Bacon> Or could go with a "frozen" theme to match the content... <Blueballs> |
