Alternative for BattlegroundTargets
 

One of my favorite addons, BattlegroundTargets or "BGTargets", appears to be out of commission since 6.0.2 went live. In all honesty it's not looking like a project that'll be updated any time soon, if at all.

Living without it now feels like I've lost an arm. I've done some searching for either an updated version or a replacement but haven't had any luck. I know of and have used BGSpy in the past, but it just doesn't quite do the same quality job.

Anyone got any ideas on an addon that emulates this kind of function?

I don't know why you and so many other people are freaking out and assuming addons are OMG ABANDONED FOREVER when there's no update less than 24 hours after the patch, especially addons that were previously up to date with the last patch. Some of us have lives outside of WoW addons, you know. I haven't even had time to log into the game since the patch yet...

WHAT ABOUT Capping, nibWatchFrameAdv, and most important Inline Aura

Can I please freak out about THIS addons since they have not been updated since 5.3/5.40?!

Well, Capping can be fixed with a library update but sure, go your hardest ;).

There's always Crack Cooldown.

I was thinking about writing an addon like BGTargets that just used nameplates to let you target nearby players but I haven't gotten around to writing it.

Apparently Curse thought so, since they auto-flagged all of my 40+ projects as "abandoned" as soon as the patch hit, even though almost none of them actually need any changes, and won't be getting anything other than a TOC bump for the people who are too lazy (yeah, that sounds the most polite out of all the possible adjectives here, so we'll just go with that one) to check the "load out of date addons" box. :rolleyes:

I'll test the addon thanks for the hint semlar! But isen't it missing options to show flash when target is below <20% or show flash on a interrupt spell when the target is casting?

The game already lights up execution moves when they become available, but I might consider highlighting interrupts while the target is casting.

It was updated to work with 5.4.x, with no further updates past 11, Sep. 2013. The latest user query on the WoWAce forum for the project was from 2012, with no response. The author's last input on their own page is from 2006.

Am I allowed perhaps, just maybe, to consider s/he has moved on to something more important in their life now? I said it LOOKS like an update isn't likely. I'm not claiming it's dead, full-stop. I haven't even removed it from my addon list. If I truly had the mindset you claim I'd be crying about things like Recount.

I'm hopeful there's an update; so far there has been zero indication that one is coming. All I'm looking for an is alternative in the meantime.

Seeing as the thread's derailed an no one can offer one, I'll just pony up and deal without for now.

I appreciate trying to get things back on track. The project sounds interesting; I'd definitely give it a go.

kunda's last activity on wowace was 3 weeks ago. kunda's last post in the BattlegroundTargets thread on wowace was in January of this year. The last alpha version for BattlegroundTargets on wowace was posted in April of this year (the last version posted by kunda himself was in January). I'm not sure where you're getting 2013 or 2006 from.

And Phanx's point is valid. There's absolutely no need to assume that an addon is abandoned less than 24 hours after a patch or even to "fear the worst".

I have been using BattlegroundTargets since the patch with no problems. Not even an error.

There is a great new addon out for BG's and especially RBG. Its called MrTarget and you can get it from curse. MrTarget provides Blizzard style PVP ENEMY Unit Frames and Replaces UNREADABLE Player Names for Target Calling purposes. It also tracks your party leaders target making target calling pretty easy as everyone with the addon can see the target. I know that battleground targets is out of date so this is a great choice. http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/mrtarget
