Iam just coming back to wow after a year off. Does the server incompatible just mean they are still patching out? Or whats up

Incompatible server means that the build of the server is newer than your install. Unfortunately, it isn't easy to get the battle.net client to actually get an update, sometimes the check for updates thing fails. Try exiting and restarting your battle.net client while the game is not running to get the updates you need. In the future, keep your battle.net client running often to catch automatic updates.
