Beautiful World Maps
 

I was wondering where I can download the full image of the WoW universe from this page.

I am also wondering how they generated that image, because I am planning on using it to create a few experiments with the world map display.

How did they get the "minimap textures" as a world map?

Also, mapwow.com is quite outdated.

I've heard about carbonite, but it seems to be using the world map "drawn out" rather than the "satellite" type pictures. How did wowmap get those pictures anyways? I'm very curious

All the satellite images are stored in the WoW files (where the Minimap gets it's image from).

Read "Appendix I" on that page for more details about how to extract the minimap files out. Actually, you probably want to read all 6 parts and both appendixes.

Very interesting. You guys read my mind, I came home and was about to ask how to get the images. And nibelheim seems to have all the answers! Best guru ever lol

Also, just wondering... would it be possible to create an addon that replaces the world map images with images in an addon file? Or possibly creating an addon similar to carbonite function, which replaces the world map with a satellite images from the minimap. (Function would be to press a keybound button to open up the "alternate world map" which functions similarly to carbonite's world map except using satellite texures)
