Leatrix GFX

I have a truly pathetic GPU, an nVidia GeForce 7100 with 128MB of RAM, so I use Leatrix GFX to improve frame rates. One of the options is to reduce color to 16 bit, with 16 bit depth. The problem is this turns the HUD bars in nUI into black boxes.

Have you tried doing a '/nui rl' after you enable that?

Zorklat 04-01-10 08:15 PM

Yes. While it fixes the boxes, it also disables the 16x16 color.

Okay... if that's the case then I'm going to guess that the problem is tied to the Blizzard video driver bug discussed here: http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=21716

Umm, no. I'm using a variant of Ubuntu 9.10 (specifically, 32-bit Linux Mint 8 Helena Fluxbox Community Edition). Because I'm lazy, I use Jockey to install my video drivers, and for all Karmic Koala variants, that means NVidia's 185.18.36 drivers.

The framerates are nearly comparable to what I had before nUI, and I did a complete clean install. The frames that hold all the life and power bars just turn solid black when 16x16 colors are enabled.

EDIT: This happens regardless of HUD I use, and it also happens to the castbar. I suspect it's because of the textures you're using.

Do the rest of the health bars still work? If so, it's not the textures because they use the same bit depth, etc. What about the cast bar in the unit frames themselves... does that one also turn black, or only the one in the HUD.

That said, the fact that you use Linux has nothing to do with the fact that Blizzard's video drivers have a bug. You're confusing the video drivers in WoW with the video drivers in the operating system... not the same thing. Nor does it have anything to do with frame rate. It's about how "custom" textures are rendered versus the built in secure textures.

Are the textures *always* black no matter what, or are they sometimes normal and sometimes turn black? Are you running in a full screen graphic mode or a windowed mode? When they are black, if you do a '/nui rl' without tabbing out of the WoW window, do the textures return?

I pared addons down to nUI and Leatrix GFX. Here are cropped screenshots, showing the parts of the UI that are bugged by 16x16 color as enabled by Leatrix GFX. In addition to all life and power bars, the castbars and action bars are blacked out (though not the icons on the action bars).

I run windowed. Most Xorg window managers have severe problems alt-tabbing in and out of WoW when it's in full screen mode. nUI RL returns the textures and (I am guessing) 24x24 color, as opening the Leatrix GFX GUI and re-checking 16 bit color returns the blacked-out textures.

Leatrix GFX is available here on WoW Interface, if you wish to try to reproduce the bug: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...eatrixGfx.html

Well... I'm going to tell you that it's the WoW graphics bug. When you do the Leatrix GFX control its functionally the same as tabbing out and back.

My advice... just don't use the 16x16 -- it's not going to save you that much anyway on a modern GFX processor.
