ESC not working when close social window

Open carbonite social window (press O).
Close the window by using the X in the upper right corner.
ESC key no longer functions.
If re-open social window, close by pressing ESC, the ESC key starts working again.

After you close the window ("by using the X in the upper right corner") what do you expect the ESC key to do for you?
