Carbonite Maps fails in Patch 7.3

With the introduction of Argus to the game today in Patch 7.3, Carbonite has starting filling my chat log with endless errors for maps that it cannot find. I've spent all day (10 am to 6pm Pacific Time) trying to debug it and get it to behave with no success and I'm giving up on continuing trying to get it to work.

It is with regret that I have to disable the addon until someone with more knowledge of how the maps work can debug this addon and get it working again. I'm also saddened that I appear to be the only one posting about this at all today. No comments on Curse or here about it not working properly.

I had to disable Carbonite as well...pretty much locked up my system tight...Been a long day of WoW headache it seems.

Gho123 08-29-17 07:22 PM

I'm used to Carbonite going down for the count most every time there's a major content release, so I haven't bothered to post about it. I'm sure they know and will in time get around to fixing it. I miss my maps!

Ummm.... Have you tried ONLY Carbonite just to see if that works?

There's no need to delete ANYTHING here. Just disable all of the addons EXCEPT Carbonite - just to see if that works. You don't have to even do anything. Just run around a little bit. Then if that works, you can start enabling your addons either one at a time or in small groups until you find the offending addon.

The issue is with Maps (Carbonite) not having the new map Ids yet...

Ahhh........ My bad. I didn't even think of that.

Explanation: My computer got "blown up" (read: electrical problem caused a meltdown) almost a year ago, to the day, so I can't play anymore, BUT, I still try to help out when, and where, I can. Thank God for tablets. :o

I dont have tools to dump Ids and Map positions, we need to wait till Rythal will do this.

Rythal 08-30-17 09:55 AM

It's more then just missing mapId's.

Even thou blizzards maps show it as part of broken shore, it's an entire new "Contintent" so to Carbonite it's like adding a new 3 zone expanson.

They also changed something with the way things are stored internally when it comes to the 3 Argus zones. The same math I use, and have used for every other zone in the game to find size of zone, size of map file, scale of zone, and relative position in the world ... fails, producing numbers that don't work. I've run old zones through the same calculators again and still get proper information, so it's only something with those 3 zones.

And lastly I still have yet to find the minimap tiles for the new continent.

I've been on PTR for the last month trying to get a working version :/

Someone got those tiles already: https://newmaps.marlam.in/argus%201/ also other 7.3 tiles. Maybe this could help.

Rythal 08-30-17 11:24 AM

Saw that a while ago... that has every zone, instance and scenario tossed into one single file mapfile layout, which would be worse news for carbonite if that was the case, as nothing in carbonite is setup for that.

The way it was always done before, and what carbonite expects, is a single directory full of tiles for an entire continent, with x_y which we then grab the right one and display it. Having multiple zones in random locations instead of matching the layout of the expected map, tosses everything to the wind.

I also could not find a subdirectory named "argus 1" in the current minimap tile locations of the datafiles.

Vandalite 08-30-17 11:32 AM

Is there a way to disable the map completely (to shut up the endless stream of errors to the console) but keep the minimap icon frame?

As for the layout of the tileset, I hope you find out it is set up the way the other 'continents' work, but I wouldn't expect that. It looks like these three new zones were built completely separated from each other, with no land in between. There are no flight paths from zone to zone, and the only way to switch zones is to teleport. I don't think flight in these zones is ever going to be a possibility either.

If that's what they did, they may have decided to drop all the tiles in the same tile continent map to save some space somewhere. These new zones may actually be treated more like instance maps -- the maps do not necessarily belong on continents at all.

Yes i also think those new zones are Instances: https://github.com/Gethe/wow-ui-text.../live/Worldmap they are in folder of Instances/Dungeons/BGs.

Rythal 08-30-17 12:28 PM

That's just an extract mistake, they have 2 folders WorldMap and Worldmap ... which is actually all just 1 folder in the actual wow data and contains every map for every zone no matter what classification they are.

The 3 zones are located in WorldMapArea tables, and have entries in the WorldMapOverlay tables so they are real zones not instances

However I do believe it may be right they've put everything into one minimap tile table because they are so small.

Rythal 08-30-17 12:39 PM

The tile folder i'm trying to locate, and which Carbonite currently is dependent on has the path of World\\Minimaps\\?????\\ within the CASC file. It is the ????? I haven't found yet.

Weird... I don't have "Argus 1" in mine, or at least I didn't see it when I was on the PTR, haven't looked since it went live.

But that confirms all 3 zones are in the single file spread out, which means extra work / time to make it work.

And doesn't solve the calculations failing and putting Macree just outside of Ashenvale, and Anton Wastes to the south west of Suramar while Krokuun is smack dab in the middle of the Argus world map.

The only way I was able to find where the zones ended up, was by clicking on the raid and dungeons from within guide and seeing where it put me lol.

Thanks for patching the endless error spam!

There is one other (easy enough to fix) issue that will cause carbonite to fail, even if you get the map issue straightened out:

PlaySound no longer accepts strings as arguments, and will need to be rewritten to either use the number or the SOUNDKIT static list to play them.

Carbonite has two instances of PlaySound, one on line 2120 of carbonite.lua, and another on line 729 of NxMapGuide.lua

The first one is easy enough: Change
Lua Code:
  1. PlaySound ("ReadyCheck")
to
Lua Code:
  1. PlaySound (SOUNDKIT.READY_CHECK)

The second one seems to need a bit more interpretation, since the sound it references isn't in the soundkit by the same name. My best guess is
Lua Code:
  1. PlaySound ("igPlayerInviteDecline")
should be changed to
Lua Code:
  1. PlaySound (SOUNDKIT.IG_QUEST_LOG_ABANDON_QUEST)

I had a bit of fun last night running through my mod list patching this all over the place...

U can propose changes on official Carbonite repo on Github: https://github.com/mikepauer/Carbonite. U can edit file this will make Pull Request and we can include that change in next alpha release.

Argus zones are assigned to Broken Isles then it has some sort of page in which we choose Argus sub zone (those new 3 zones) and after that it goes to selected new Argus zone. Maybe this helps to position them.

Vandalite 08-30-17 01:46 PM

Looks like someone beat me to it regarding the PlaySound issue.

Rythal 08-30-17 01:47 PM

Changes already made to both files, and to Quests

Which db2 table contains parent zone of overlays?

Tinibree 08-30-17 08:05 PM

I hopped out of game to let my addons update (including carb), and when I came back Carbonite was back to not working. Like, it says its loaded but there's no map/questing thing going on.

I finally managed to turn off every addon but Carb, but still carb doesn't actually load. Any ideas?

(Carb is set to alpha of course)

Edit: I went back to release but unfortunately that's back to the chat spamming we had.
Edit 2: Found the right release. Phew. Its the last one from the 30th according to the twitch client. Ends in ccc-alpha doesn't have argus but has map/quest and no chat spam.

Svegan 08-30-17 08:15 PM

Questing on argus is not working, because the mapping is different and Rythal is working to fix that. If you zone back to Dalaran, you will see it working just fine, for all the other broken shore stuff. Get the latest from curse, and you should be good, everywhere but argus.

Tinibree 08-30-17 08:19 PM

I was in dalaran the whole time, refused to load at all. I'll just keep carb from updating for another day or two

KrysEmlyn 08-30-17 08:31 PM

I would like to apologize for my angry post that started this thread.
I was frustrated from my own attempts at trying to get Carbonite working.
I'm glad to see that headway is being made in fixing things up, and at least shutting down the chat spam from the addon while stuff gets figured out. :)

I've used Carbonite for years, starting back when it was under other authors, but after it stopped being a paid addon. I've been making do with the Blizzard defaults for the map and quest log, but it just doesn't feel right doing so. I'm picking up the new alpha version shortly to get back to my usual UI layout. :D

Rythal 08-30-17 08:34 PM

The latest alpha release on curse / github should work, it has everything working except the minimap tiles while I try to figure out how to handle that.

hay, I am just wondering if something was done to the quest bits in the alpha release, I loaded that in and now all of a sudden its not even showing up in my addons list in game. if there is a fix for this please let me know :) I like having my quests showing when I'm leveling lower level characters while the addon hell sorts it self out!

Thanks!

Should be fixed.

Tinibree 08-30-17 10:27 PM

Whatever you did fixed my issue, thanks Rhythal/other devs! :D

Try not to lose sleep over getting this 100% up :)

KrysEmlyn 08-30-17 10:55 PM

The new version is working nicely, until I ask it to display ore nodes.
Then, it starts dumping what appears to be a table to chat.
The numbers change as you highlight areas of the map by mousing over them when you have the large map open. Not sure where the issue is this time....

EDIT: Asking the map to show herbs also causes a stack of numbers to start clogging the chat log. Something about Show Herbs and Show Mining Locations breaks it.

Rythal 08-31-17 06:02 AM

Node data dumps into chat is fixed now.

KrysEmlyn 08-31-17 09:43 AM

Rythal,

Thank you for fixing that.
I'm downloading the new update shortly.

WOWVern 03-24-18 07:26 PM

Somehow, Ironforge missed getting a minimap image. All I have is the main map and red dots when moving. Missed mapid here?
