How he used the macro keyboard could have been the issue. My understanding is one press, one action. If he had macros that did one press, multiple actions (which is doable with that type of keyboard), then that could be the reason.

I believe he can appeal. Not sure, never been banned. Until recently, I had an old Logitech G11 keyboard and never had any issues with Blizzard.

A bot is a bot, and it's definitely not restricted to PvP only these days. Of course it's entirely possible that it's a false positive, but only he can petition Blizzard to get an answerAnd it will likely take several attempts since they're loaded with the "I'm innocent!" tickets at the moment.

It is not PvP, it is a bot program being sold out of Germany. (No link will be provided as I am certain it would break the ToS of WoWI.)

A large discussion can be found on both US and EU(pick one) forums as bans went out to everyone using "bots". Perhaps more people should remember the terms of the EULA and the ToS before action is taken.

I assume the detection for bots may pick up a macro mouse/keyboard/gamepad along with Gnomesequencer as a bot. So this may be a slight side-effect of their banhammer crusade.

Anything that automates sending key presses to the game is considered a bot, and even though it's technically against the rules I would be surprised if he got banned simply for using the macro function of his keyboard.

Blizzard was monitoring the accounts that they banned and they are so confident that the people they banned were botting (or using a program like tmorph) that they aren't appealing any of the bans.

What I can guarantee is that they didn't get banned for using an addon, and the addon certainly wouldn't continue to function if they did.

They wouldn't give out a 6month ban for any Lua addon, even if a clever author has found a way to do something unintended (eg. old AVR).

They'd simply (i) break the addon from Lua side (ii) make it public that it's considered undesirable.
Anything that is possible to make purely with a Lua addon is fair game (except x-faction communication and a couple things explicitly stated: soliciting donations in-game, casino addons etc)

On the other hand honorbuddy has a ton of botting options (combat routines was their option for automating all class/spec rotations), has won a court case against Blizz in EU, and was "boasting" they're undetectable.

So this was coming...
