Same problem here.
The picture starts to appear in the grey pop-up overlay and then it rapidly switches to a new window with only the single picture and no way to view the others.
I am running 10.6.8 and have tried in Safari, Chrome and Firefox and no difference between them.
I do have JavaScript turned on in each.
