Creating your own colour scheme can be a lot of work. It is probably easier to "extend" an existing one. For example SLT already has the really well made "Solarized" built in, in both light-on-dark and dark-on-light variants. The author of Solarized has also defined a whole bunch of colours [ http://ethanschoonover.com/solarized#the-values] that I'm pretty sure are not all used in SLT.
