I don't know, taking a quick glance at the minimap is one of the first things I do, to quickly get my bearings and know where I am exactly. Well, up to you. You are going to be hiding a UI element, if even for a short time, due to pure aesthetics. May be worth moving the animation technology to a new area, perhaps design a small loading block
