Thank you Silenia. No idea on the modem .. and I use that word loosely as I don't really understand what my ISP techs told me of how their modem works. I used to live in the Phoenix area and was on Cox cable then and never had a problem with latency, but since moving to the sticks I had to go with Transcend Broadband who have told me that they use a wireless signal from their towers to my home at which point it changes to hardwire - straight from the modem to my PC. However their modem plugs directly into a wall electrical socket with the cable attached at one end and going out the wall up to the antenna on the roof and the other is the cable to my PC. I've never seen a modem like this one.

As for the tracert showing it reached attens.net.. per Blizzard's support site when doing a traceroute to servers in Los Angeles, the last hop should be one of the following:

* 12.129.193.242
* 12.129.193.246

So did I make it through or didn't I? /confused

I don't know anything at all about that wireless stuff lol. It does look like you hit their server:

mdf001c7613r0003-gig-10-1.lax1.attens.net [12.19.193.242]

I dunno Erurainon... your tracert just looks very erradic to me when it gets around qwest. I can't say for certain if that's where your problem is as I'm still learning about reading these tracerts. (Here's a decent explanation for them.) There was something in particular though that I was looking for in your tracert, but I didn't see it.

Not to beat a dead horse, but..

..since I was having so many problems in Vista I decided to build a whole new rig using XP Pro w/SP2. So now I have a fresh install of my OS and the only things on my C: drive (which is a WD 36GB Raptor) are Windows and WoW - also freshly installed and updated with minimal addons. I even put my paging file on my storage drive. And I'm still experiencing in-game lag and disconnects. A copy of my latest tracert which appears picture-perfect:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

I have 2 gigs of RAM, an 8800GTS w/320MB, proc is currently not overclocked, case is an Antec Nine Hundred which keeps all of my components seriously cool. RAM is OC-quality RAM, not value stuff. PSU is an Antec True Power 550 - all of my components were carefully picked for quality and the ability to OC even though I am running stock at the moment. I don't know what else to do now. Just wanted to report that I'm still experiencing the same problems, so it's not a Vista issue and my ISP doesn't appear to be at fault. All I can do is point at the 2.4 patch because that's when my problems began appearing as well as for many other people around the world. Guess I'll try that reg hack now...

Problems Fixed

The reg hack applied to XP did the trick. For anyone else going through this problem, if you have Vista, your only option would be to either apply SP1 Beta now or wait a few more days since SP1 Final's supposed to come out this month. If you have XP, just follow the link provided by Silenia on the first page of this thread and watch the YouTube video which spells out exactly how to apply it to XP.
