No Hud, No Unit Frames Appearing,

Hello,

Just so y'all know I am fairly computer illiterate so speak slowly... and in small words >.>

Sorry to waste valuable time...

I just got the new one uploaded (new one tonight!) and I am not seeing any unit frames at all, and no hud either. I also keep getting errors...

These two are just randomly pulled from a 2 minute period while in raid. If ya need more? I am happy to copy some more into the thread.

Looks like there are a multitude of different addons there that are erroring out. Is it possible that you could try again with just nUI loaded and see if you get the same problem ?

This sounds sort of like a problem I was having before the fix came out. After upgrading, did you go into the WTF folder (World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\<Account Name>\SavedVariables) and delete nUI.lua and nUI.lua.bak? I was having issues with everything (chat box, bars, hud, party frames) being blank before doing that. After erasing and letting the new version recreate them, it went fine.

Worth a shot, anyway, yeah?

If I may suggest... try following the instructions for the clean install in this FAQ and see if that fixes it... http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=21716

Rolled back everything works. latest release is bugged.

No... it isn't bugged. If it was I would be buried under a ton of bug reports both on the support forum here and via e-mail. Best as I can tell, you're the only one experiencing the problem.

I'm sorry you're experiencing the issue you are. Since this is your first post on the subject, I might suggest that it would be more helpful and productive if you would give me an idea of what error messages you're getting and what steps you've taken.

If you have nUI 5.06.06 and you have followed the instructions in the clean install, then there is no reason why it would not load without error. If you remove your [ Interface > AddOns ] folder and your [ WTF ] folder and you log in to WoW do you see an "AddOns" button at the character selection screen? If so, when you click it, what addons are listed? Given that you deleted your addon folder, there should be none. If you see anything, odds are you're working in the wrong directory which is a very common thing that happens.

This isn't my first paper route. I removed everything but nui and started new profiles. seems I am not the only one as you stated above. Started clean like you recommended and still bugged. old version is fine. Also, I am not going to lose evey setting I have every time I update nui. that's just not realistic. Thanks anyway.

No offence, but I have been using nUI since the first alpha and never had to lose settings because of an nUI update. I did once or twice tho but not because of nUI persee.

Lots of addons (like DBM) are still bugged as you can see from the lua errors, that's the fault of DBM, not nUI. And if you need to set "load out of date errors" you're at risk of getting problems. (Yes I know even up to date add ons bug out)

Most problems are easier to fix by wiping out the wtf folder and start a new.

As for the report you and blackmax19 made. You both gave no info on what version or other mods he is using so for all we know he is using an outdated version of nUI. Stating "latest release" is rather useless to spiel. Not answering his question point for point isn't helping either (helping you to get the problem fixed, and possible others who may have the same problem how unlikely Spiel and myself thing there are others)

From the ammount of error reports I would say the latest release is rather bug free.

I already stated i disabled everything and removed my addons wtf folder so no idea where you get that I didn't provide information. And as such wouldn't have ANY addons to conflict.

Really? Latest release as of the posting doesn't help? It is 5.06.06.

I am not sure what more info I can give other than I cleared everything and only ran 5.06.06. 5.06.05 works fine. I guess I will just stay with that until I can get 5.06.07+ or find a decent replacement.

Thanks.

Yes, just stating "latest release" is meaningless. For example, the version on curse.com was 5.06.05 yesterday, so if you gotten it from there the latest release was not the latest release.

And it's not the first time people say "I'm using latest release x" while there is a release x.a allready out.

Like I said, you could answer his questions ? The man is trying to help isn't he ? If there is a bug he wants it fixed maybe even more then you do, how about helping him help you and potentially help other nUI users ?

Giving direct answers to direct questions instead of "I did everything" is not going to help trouble shooting;

If I get a mail stating "internet on my PC doesn't work" I take over that PC, open Internet and go to www.google.com. If I get the page I'm done looking, and reply "couldn't find anything wrong, internet works. Please be more specific to describe any problem you may have. If I don't get a reply or "no it doesn't work, I tried everything" then sorry, I can't help you. That's why we ask questions, to get answers to help you out.

Hmm, ahx111, blackmax19 and Sowienn. I just realised that you never showed us a screenshot. Your descriptions while detailed may be missing a visual element that will help us identify what is happening.

I have Windows 7 64 bit and I have my WoW in a different folder to where it was originally installed. It was initially installed in the default Program Files etc folder but moved when I upgraded from the beta version to the full version of Windows 7.

A picture paints a thousand words. Just tested with a new character and running with non administrator access. Here are the images:

Image 1 : First log in of this new character - No visual problems
Image 2 : /nui movers showing movement of tooltip to the lower right
Image 3 : Second log in of this character - Visual problems
Image 4 : /nui rl corrects problems and tooltip movement showed as it changed

I will test this again with Administrator access on another new character and see if the problem exists there.

If you haven't already given examples of what settings are being erased can you give some examples so that I can test those out too ?

Okay, same problem exists with administrator access. Here's another set of images.

The same descriptions apply and again a /nui rl corrected the error that appeared. The error understandable needs to be figured out and hopefully now that we can , or at least I can, repeatedly cause the error we can figure out the solution and correct it.

Of course the problem may exist in Windows 7 only. Perhaps someone with other operating systems can carry out similar tests and see if they get the problems as well.

Those 2 characters now repeatedly error out with the same errors and a reload corrects it. Also, the new toon fresh since my 3.3 patch update is similarly afflicted.

Hmm, however, a toon that existed before 3.3 and perhaps even 3.2 doesn't error out.

Now, bear in mind I wiped out my WTF files so last night was the first update of her in game data. So, the question is, why would toons created last night go wrong compared to ones created months ago. Even though all the data was cleared out prior to logging in last night. These toons were also the first toons logged into after starting up wow.

Also, even jumping to a 2nd new toon without logging out it errors out immediately so that the image order in her case would be image 3 ( error ), /nui rl, then image 1 showing a fresh new nUI record for that character.

Addons loaded up are as follows :

Rofl thanks Seer

Hmm, but just as interesting .. after logging into my pre 3.3 toon my post 3.3 toons are not erroring out now.

Guys, if these screenshots look like the same problem you are getting can you :

1. Log into game
2. Choose a pre 3.3 toon
3. Log out of the game
4. Log into post 3.3 toon ( or the toon with the problem )

Obviously, when you have time to spend away from your normal game tasks, but it would be appreciated if you can confirm

1. Whether this is the problem you have been describing
2. Whether the steps I did that seemingly corrected the problem corrects yours

Good luck guys.

Ok, interesting twist to my findings :

This one is a pre 3.3 toon but like the others she has no WTF data on first log in since 3.3 patching.

On first login it errors out. After a /nui rl the nUI fresh install screen appears just like the others, and like the others it repeatedly errors out.

Tried my steps earlier but they didn't work, so guys, don't worry about carrying those steps out.

Next theory being tested :

Toon Name - Pre/Post 3.3 - nui.lua movers table contents - log in results
Amynris - Post - No Move Anchors - despite erroring out before I post this message it didn't error out this time ( 2 out of 2 logins)
Shauleste - Post - Watchframe and tooltips moved - again no error ( 2 out of 2 )
Tandrea - Post - Bagbar, CaptureBar, MirrorTimer, Tooltip, Multicast, Durability, Watchframe, Voicechat, vehicle moved - hmm and again no error ( 2 out of 2 )
Thelana - Pre - No Move Anchors - And again, works fine with no error. ( 2 out of 2 )
Valdorae - Post - WatchFrame and Tooltips moved - Are you confused ? Cos I am ! Another no error log in ( 2 out of 2 )
Zarael - Pre - No Move Anchors - Still no errors ( 2 out of 2 )

Okay, one final test in case Zarael is killing everyone else :P - Amynris again to see if he jinxes out after logging in zarael with no problems. Okay, no problems there..... *thinking*

Next test .... try all these characters in the same order without logging all the way out.

Amynris - no errors
Shauleste - no errors
Tandrea - no errors - Accidently logged out
Thelana - no errors
Valdorae - no errors
Zarael - no errors

Well, two tests and no errors. Somehow it has fixed itself but I suspect the errors will persist for a short time after a fresh install and you may need to jump between toons and/or relog a few times for it to work. Not scientific but that is pretty much all I have done. I will watch this problem closely and see if any of these toons have recurring errors.

It would be helpful if someone could install BugSack or Swatter and trap all of the runtime errors that occur during load then either e-mail them to me or attach them to this thread so I can see what errors are getting thrown where... it could be related to an uninitialized configuration variable or something like that.
