New Computer Spec suggestions

Ok, I plan on updating to a new computer soon, (need one for school). After looking some today, I realize that I have fallen behind in keeping up on hardware. There are WAY to many processors out there now that all look the same. So to start this off I'll give what I have chosen so far. (Not locked in stone.)

Video card:-- Nvidia GTX460 1GB
Windows 7 pro 64bit
6 - 8 GB memory

Looking at processors I would like some opinions as to what other people are using. Intel only please. I'm currently looking at I7-920, but I don't know if it is really worth it compared to the prices of say the I5's or even I3's.

I can't even look at MB's till I pick the processor.
