If you want something real, you can look up J.J. Abrams on imdb and see that he is, indeed, starting the next Star Trek movie.

I've heard he is actually contracted for 2 more.

Red Matter came from an Alias story arc. Not really sure why they wanted to put it in Star Trek though. :-p

Smile I hope

I loved the red shirt death I was like "no .. no ... they aren't .... !?! .. they did oh what a harid joke lol"

They had captain Pike's Number One (originaly played by Majore) the blonde girl that stone at his side several times. In the original pilot show Pike was captain, his first officer was played by Majore, and Spock was science officer.

Bones appered in episode two and Chechofe(sp?) was much later of course.

I thought it was actually in a TNG episode where they finally figured out how to warp to a ship in warp, and only then while matching warp speeds.
FlareCDE

If I remember right they said it was possible just not recomended, and what they did in the movie was a non-moving targeting a moving target at a distance not a moving target hiting a non-moving one at a close distance

but hey we do have Warp Transport (which evidently Scotty forgot later in life
Tearstar

Remember Scotty was "frozen" in a transporter loop till tng and had worked on transwarp before that; so, the idea he would have improved the teleportation proticals (concedering he created most of them) by the time Spock came back was not imposible.

As long as they don't mention Borg-Ferengie-Delta Quadrent I'll be fine.

Star Trek started going down hill after Roddenberry's death hopefully this will bring it back up.

After watching the film for about the 20th time, I notice more and more "Old Trek" references and such:

1.) While Kirk is getting onto the shuttlecraft to go to the Academy, he turns and walks head first into a beam above his head. I believe this is a reference to when Scotty said "I know this ship like the back of my hand" and then turns and plows head first into a beam . . . too similar not to be.

2.) Nobody mentioned the Green Girl that Kirk seems to always hook up with . . .lol

3.) McCoy says he has a fear of dying in anything that flies, yet he seems to enjoy the view the second time we see him in a flying situation, From the old days his fear was "his atoms being blown apart into a million pieces and then scattered all over the galaxy"

4.) Yes the red shirt that alot seemed to catch.

5.) Even tho the time travel and the changing of events, all the crew "still" manages to end up on the Enterprise in the positions they originally were, A reference to FATE?

6.) Surprised IDIC was never brought up, nor the Prime Directive

7.) McCoy yells for the help of Nurse Chapel which we don't get to see. (Didn't she get duty on the Enterprise much later into their voyage if I remember right?)

I do think that a series with these actors and could spark the franchise back up, would be more interesting that "Enterprise"

The Onion started out as an in-print "news" source. Was hubby's and mine favorite thing to read over lunch in college.

I don't remember Chapel (Majel Barret Roddenberry) being a later addition to the crew, but I definitely remember Chekov didn't join until the middle of season two. I believe "The Trouble With Tribbles" saw his first appearance. Great note to start on for him!

/sigh

As a movie, pretty decent. As a Star Trek-style film (ie. physically impossible technobabble-type sci-fi, time travel, etc.), par for the course. As a Star Trek... despite numerous references to existing series... a travesty. 40-some years of Star Trek history, lore, characters, down the drain. Not just reimagined like recent prequel/origin movies, but wiped out completely.

And I'm not even a big Star Trek fan...
