[PSA] AuraTracker Removal

In a future update, the AuraTracker feature will be fully removed. This is not a decision that was made lightly as I know many of you, myself included, use or even rely on this feature to assist you in playing your spec.

The main reason for this is simply time. With Legion's increased focus on not just class fantasy, but individual spec fantasy, there are far fewer spells shared between specs. Combined with that is the pace at which they are making class changes. In all, it amounts to a lot of work to keep track of, implement, and test for each of the 36 specs that are in the game at the moment.

There just isn't enough time to do all of this at the level of quality I want to keep, in addition to developing new features or enhancing other existing features.

There are many stand alone addons that provide much that same functionality, if not better. TellMeWhen is very popular and has many more options than AuraTracker, in addition to supporting cooldowns. WeakAuras is another very popular addon that provides the ability to write shareable custom trackers as well as premade templates for class and spec spells and cooldowns.

Be sure to also check the class/role sections here on WoW Interface and Curse for more targeted addons.

Your individual class discords may already have a section for weakauras, or links to sites that do. check it out.

Will this entail a move away from Raven completely, or just the removal of the aura tracking module?

Raven will still be there. The AuraTracker was made completely "in house", so Raven won't be affected.

Any chance you'll include aura tracking addon in your future builds?

Bad news: One of my favorite features, very sad this won't be around any more.

Good news: Messing around with WeakAuras 2 after reading this (complete newb with that addon) I managed to recreate them for my resto shaman about 95% the same. A bit tedious but not hard.

Bad news: I play a lot of alts so this is gonna suck

In preparation for this change I've quickly thrown together a set of weakauras to track hunter auras. I copied the information directly from the RealUI aura tracker.

Hunter BUFFS
Hunter DEBUFFS

It's not a perfect 1:1 copy as I don't think I can make weakauras show b&w icons for certain things that have yet to proc like the aura track (RealUI) does but it's solid enough. Also these should provide people a good template to make their own auras for other classes.

This is sad news indeed. One of the things I loved about RealUI was trying out a new class and having most of what I would care about already there and tracked for me, more recently I've been adding effects to it myself. Guess it's time to figure out how much tweaking WeakAuras needs to fit in as cleanly.

Adding my quick Shadow Priest weakauras to the list... buffs and debuffs based on triksterism's very helpful post, cds are my own. screenshot included for those who want to see how my cds are placed (obviously movable if you don't like em where they are ^.^). cd weakauras will show spells in full color when available to use, and gray out with a timer when on cooldown.

Shadow Priest DEBUFFS
Shadow Priest BUFFS
Shadow Priest CDs

i'll slowly be adding disc/holy, both specs of dh, resto and kitty druid, and maaaaybe assassination rogue (unless someone beats me to it)...

EDIT:: triksterism used spellids, but i was too lazy to look all of that up and used spell names instead... a quick round on the target dummies seem ok so hopefully that won't be too much of a problem.

part of Edit#2: it occurs to me it may be easier for some people if i just leave a link to my pastebin >.>

Adding Disc... not completely happy with the buffs but better than nothing for the moment

Debuffs were ones I've made and had for a while, just adjusted them to be the same placement as triksterism's lovely work.

Disc BUFFS
Disc DEBUFFS

Edit to add DH, both havoc and vengeance. Both buffs and debuffs track their respective cooldowns (if applicable) simply by subtracting the length of the actual buff/debuff from the length of the spell's cd. Icons for cds are desaturated. (note: the way cds show up are a little different from my priest ones... i kinda like these better)

Still based on triksterism's original post

DH Vengeance BUFFS
DH Vengeance DEBUFFS

DH Havoc BUFFS
DH Havoc DEBUFFS

Edit#2 to add Holy Priest... shadow and disc have been tweaked slightly to be more similar to the DH weakauras as well.

holy priest BUFFS are buffs on self ONLY. they will all be on the left, and will track their respective cds if applicable. TARGET'S BUFFS are exactly what it says.. buffs on the target applied by me (at least i think so, i may have missed a couple "only own" checkboxes.. whoops)

Holy Priest BUFFS/CDS
Holy Priest TARGETBUFFS

Edit#3 for resto druid, similar to holy priest, except hots on self are not tracked unless self is targeted (just to reduce clutter, my grid shows all of that anyway). i apologize for any mistakes or inconsistencies between auras... i don't have nearly enough hours in my day >.< EDITEDIT: looks like cd tracking isn't working properly but i'm too sleepy to figure out why... will look at it sometime in the next several days ^.^ MOAREDIT: fixed....? i think........?

Tree BUFFS/CDS
Tree TARGETBUFFS

Literally my favourite part of RealUI now gone

I'm trying to convert everything into WeakAuras but it's not quite the same. I'm considering just ripping out the old code and turning it into a standalone addon if I can't get WeakAuras to work how I like, would you object to that?

Edit: Now played with TellMeWhen and it seems like it might be able to be configured to look identical to the old RealUI Aura Tracker. Will continue trying that rather than ripping out the old lua code. I should have read the initial post and tried it rather than skip ahead to WeakAuras like everyone else.

Edit 2: Scratch that, see my below post

I made this for Shadow Priest auras that look almost exactly the same as the old RealUI AuraTracking. Differences are documented in the description, and you can see it in action in the attached screenshot.

Hopefully it's helpful to someone who like me was very attached to this part of RealUI

Edit: Updated for all priest specs, and fixed a display bug where the frame strata of the stacks was sometimes below the icons

I made DPS warrior auras in WeakAuras that looks nearly similar to AuraTracker. It tracks anything relevant to PvE and if you want to add anything it's super easy. I made 4 separate ones for 2 specs so they work nearly like AuraTracker did.

Arms
https://wago.io/EyjNd2aFM
https://wago.io/EJ4Ku26Kf

Fury
https://wago.io/EJP5_3TtM
https://wago.io/N1Ko_3TKz

I have two issues I don't know how to solve. The icons have a 2px border on them whereas the old AT had a single solid black one. Also, the stack count (pretty much only Focused Rage) is awkwardly placed regardless of where I set it using WA's settings. I don't know how to fix either, sorry.

The icon size and position should be identical to AT by the pixel aside from the odd borders messing with positioning.
