wotlk classic - AH throttle when using BrowseName:SetText

is there a way to avoid triggering the auction house throttle when using BrowseName:SetText to set the auction house search field?
I am working on an addon that is basically just a drop down list for me to select the items i frequently search for. It works fine, however, when i type in the text manually i can search every second. When i use the drop down, the search takes up to 5 seconds to complete.
I tried to just add the text and using SetFocus to manually confirm it by pressing enter, but the same result.

It is just really weird. Any idea if i m doing something wrong or if there is a better way to achieve what i am doing that doesnt trigger the throttle?
