The case of the missing mini map button box

This issue just started a few days ago. The separate box where the mini map buttons are located if you elect to move the buttons off the mini map is gone. The only way to get any mini map buttons to show on my screen is to show them around the mini map. In the areas where the mini map takes almost all the map i keep on my screen, this is is impractical. Conversely, if I do combine the Carbonite mini map with the WoW mini map, it is very difficult to see the quest areas on the mini map. I have tried the map settings every which way but i cant get it back to how it was. I am also not able to see all icons without the separate box, such as covenant, mail, date, time, calendar. To the best of my knowledge I did not make any changes before the issue started. I hope you can help. Thanks!
