Item Attributes

Hello. I am trying to create a simple addon that will track the Shaman EEP* of any given item.

I am now able to get tooltips to display using EnhTooltip, but I am having some difficulty in figuring out how to poll a given item for how much Str, HP, etc that it adds.

Is this possible to do without having to load the item's complete tooltip and then parsing it, or do I need to make plans to do that instead of something simpler?

*: EEP = http://www.wowwiki.com/EEP, a basic way to rate gear.

The method for parsing that I'm thinking of would be something similar to what ItemTips uses. Basically it just reads the original tooltip of the item and parses it from a list.

What you can do is use the mod Pawn, and enter in the values for EEP, and it will display the EEP on each tooltip. People have already configured it to use AEP for rogues, you'd just need to enter some numbers through a slash command.

Wow, yeah, that's exactly what I am looking for. Thanks!

I'm still going to work on creating my IEP plugin, just because it's an interesting learning exercise at this point. Doubly so since Pawn doesn't seem to support "sliding stats" like crit rating and hit rating and the like. (I'd like to give 10 points to an item that gives 1% crit, but the amount of Critical Strike Rating changes based on my level. I suppose for now I'll make it default assuming you're level 70 and just go from there...)

I just discovered the following page on WowWiki about tooltips from looking at how ItemTip handles them:

http://www.wowwiki.com/UIOBJECT_GameTooltip

It works great, the following snippit of code duplicates the original tooltip as raw text and puts it in the EnhTooltip window:

Code:
	for i=1, GameTooltip:NumLines() do
		local mytext = getglobal("GameTooltipTextLeft" .. i)
		local text = mytext:GetText()

		EnhTooltip.AddLine(i..": "..text,nil,embedded);
	end
Which means it's possible (and relatively easy) to parse the numbers this way.
