SCT questions: hooking and event_config

I have a question considering SCT: I have written my own mod, and I would like to include an option to send a SCT message when an event happens. However, I'm not really sure how to make the message display the way I want it. I know how to make the message look like other message types, or how to display it in the message frame, but this means that the message can look a lot different depending on the user setup, and the message frame is not what I am looking for. Optimally, I would like the same options that are already available for the end user in sct_event_config, but in my mod so that the user who downloads it doesn't have to edit any files.
Now, I suspect you can somehow hook up your own addon with SCT, because of the variables at the end of sct_event_config, but I'm not sure how. If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate some sample code. Thanks!
