Localizing

Hi, I'm nearly finished localizing my addon for the German client (many thanks to Nerozud). It's been a fun experience, though I don't know if that's because I have enough German to know exactly what going on. Anyway...

Are there repositories of strings that Blizzard in its messages? An English example would be:

Tsadok has assaulted the farm!

From this it is easy to extract the node name and the player name. With the German version I've scoured the internet or got Nerozud to collect the strings with an addon I sent him. If all these strings are sitting somewhere it would save a lot of hassle. Hmmm... I guess it may not be too tricky to write an addon that collects them and distributes them somehow.

Next, does anyone know of friendly developer communities in other languages? I can't log into the European forums, but is there a place like this where Germans or French people chat? Or do they tend to come here?

Finally, I'm happy to check through people's English localizations or even translate from French or German if it's not too technical :-)

Cheers!

Tsadok,

WoWInterface is frequented by quite a few multi-lingual folks who are usually happy to help, especially if you have the string files more or less "set" and all you need are the translations.

You may want to also post in the UI/Macro portion of WoWInterface's sister site, Wowhead, http://Wowhead.com , which supports enUS/GB, esES, frFR, and ruRU.

There are also quite a few language variants linked from the menu in the lower left of http://WoWWiki.Com - the actual "forums" are a bit more limited, but it could be worth a try, too.

There are 2 sites that folks who are localizer-supporters of our main Auctioneer AddOn run, and they have at least some other AddOns linked with chat/support, they are:
WoW-Anleitungen - German language fan site discussing all things Auctioneer, including help with issues, forums and more.
WoWEconomie - Fan site with an extensive French language guide to Auctioneer. Guide Français pour Auctioneer.

My French is very limited and German even more so, but we have heard decent feedback, from native speakers, about both sites. For our purposes, we need folks who know at least a bit about financial terms, mathematics, and such- even then, we have been quite fortunate.

Realize this may not be exactly what you need, but hope it gets you started in the right direction.

Best of luck to you,

Nikk
