is it possible i just want to make it slightly bigger mainly to fill the area evenly without any open space on the top and side like there is.

If not no biggie mainly eye candy issue

Switch your unit frame panel to the party or raid mode and you'll quickly see there is no "extra" space on either side of the map. There's only a little extra at the top and that's mostly for the sake of good visual separation between the map and the action bar.

So... if you size the map up, it will overlap your unit frames when you are not in solo mode.
