NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.
Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.
Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.
To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.
“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.
Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.
Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.
Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.
New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

Since one of the last updates (sorry, can't really tell which one, haven't been hunting rares for some time) I'm not getting the alert popup for mobs with localized names (german client), simply nothing happens, except for the map overlay disappearing. On mobs with non-localized names it works just fine. Any idea what could be causing this?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Problem with this Addon.
I am playing on an english client, the downloadable one from the blizzard website. All I did was create the _NPCScan folder and copy the files in it. I will try and reinstall the addon again. Thank you. |

Re: Re: Re: Problem with this Addon.
If you are playing on an English client, did you use MMOUI Minion or any other updater to install it? I suggest simply reinstalling the addon manually either way. Make sure the game's turned off while you do it, though. |

Clearing your cache
Saiket, after looking at my installation I think your path maybe wrong on the webpage tab Addon Info.
◦Advanced users can delete “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache\enUS\creaturecache.wdb” It could either be that I'm not enUS or have installed to a different location but my path is: "D:\Games\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enGB\creaturecache.wdb" Note the WDB Folder under cache, as the file extension is wdb I'm guessing it's probably standard to have the WDB folder in cache. Thank you for such a wonderful Addon! Ven. |

Problem with this Addon.
I know it's probably something really simple, and I am overlooking it, but I can't get this mod to work.
I installed it, cleared cache, all that stuff. The problem I am having, is when this mod is enabled, I can't type anything in wow. None of my keyboard functions work, can't move, ESC doesn't bring up the options menu, nothing works. If I disable it, everything works fine. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you. |

Not showing picture when hovering over name
This used to show a picture when I hovered over a mob name in the list.
Right now it is only showing a picture when I hover over the 2 on the Custom NPC page. If I hover over any of the names on the Bloody Rare or the Frostbitten tabs, the pictures no longer show up. I liked seeing the picture so I knew what the mobs looked like. I am currently running the latest version. I have cleared my Cache and also deleted the _NPCScan.lua files from the WTF folder to remove any settings. I still no longer see the pictures when hovering over the names in those 2 tabs.

Love it!
Just wanted to say " Thank You! ". This mod is absolutely awesome. I have found more rares in the last 3 days since I've downloaded this than I have in the last year. Every time I here the alert go off I get all giddy. So now while I'm farming ore I can be scanning for rares without mashing any buttons. You my friend are a freaking genius! keep up the awesome work on this, I wont be playing without it from here on out. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends.
