LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

Any idea how I can go about submitting a list of bad NPCs? I've just noticed a few quests where the wowhead data sends you to the wrong place because the NPC appears in multiple places.

Achievements

I wonder if it was possible to expand LightHeaded to include Achievements and the Achievement frame to see how some achievements are done?

Not sure if that requires a complete rewrite though

It would require a completely new addon, something I have no plans for at this time.

Well, that's why _all_ the coordinates for an NPC are included, so you can set them all and make the "right" decision. I don't know that there's a good way to do anything.. since it would have to be a manual process.

I had been using lightheaded for quite some time, until it needed updating and couldn't. I deleted it and downloaded an updated version. Since then I can't get it to show in my addon list (from the char selection screen) at all. I've unzipped and put in folder where it should be with my other addons.

Can anyone help?

There is a readme-lightheaded.txt file included that describes how the addon should be installed. Read that and ensure the addon has been installed correctly.

Yeah, I've checked, double checked, deleted, re-installed...

I've got a couple screenshots, maybe you can see something I can't.

My addon folder:

My addon list:

I just can't figure out why it's not working.

ETA, since they stopped wowmatrix working with so many files most of my addons are installed through the curse client now.

The primary situation I've noticed it in is when wowhead has two NPCs listed with the same name. Check out Duke August Foehammer. LightHeaded apparently only has the entry with the incorrect coordinates. Another example is what you see on certain quests, where NPCs will appear in different locations depending on the step of the quest you're on. And yeah, I'm not sure how to go about fixing it either. The only idea I've got is some sort of a script that modifies the LightHeaded data after it's been gathered, and maintains a second database of 'corrected' NPCs, for the few that create a problem.

First, I recommend using WUU, it's a really really good updater.

Second, it looks like the addons folder you posted a screenshot of is not the addon folder for your current installation of World of Warcraft. Like, you have Gatherer in your addon's list, but not in your addons folder. Did you install two separate installations of WoW?

Yeah I thought that - the addons not in the addon folder were installed by curse. Co-incidentally, that's when lightheaded stopped working. No, only one installation of wow ever, with all the updates/expansions added.

I've done a system search but can't find any other directory or file with wow addons.

Does WUU work the same as curse does? I had no problems at all using wowmatrix.

If the data is wrong in LightHeaded then it's wrong on WowHead. This means specifically that wowhead is linking to one NPC id when it should be linking to another. I suggest you contact them to update their database, as my data is generated directly from theirs. That would be the best way to get it fixed. As for NPCs that appear in multiple locations, I don't really _want_ to fix it. I think it's better to have all of the information available.

Are you on Vista?

c:\users\public\games\World of Warcraft

As the first poster said, the files are not installed in the right place. The files were moved when you installed WoTLK (if you answered yes), leaving the old installation in place.

I'm glad I posted here - a HUGE thank you for that! I'd ran so many searches but (thanks for Vista) I couldn't find another addon folder! That must have happened when I installed WOTLK... Again, a huge thanks... I can now go do old quests for rep without having to tear my hair out and keep tabbing
