hi.. i had the same problem...i found the omen addon to be causing my problem.

I have the very same error but this time i have eliminated all other add-on since i have deleted the interface and the WTF folders and started wow and then once i have set the resolution i wanted, i installed nUI+ only as stated in your instruction. and when wow started viola the very same error "nuichatframe.lua:214: attempt to perform arithmetic on a nill value" and 22 other related errors and one about a floating chat frame generating up to 5k+ counts of that same error.
so its not about some other add-on whacking nUI. I have already started to look for other interface to replace nUI  but i really like this interface and none comes close to the feel of nUI. You only need to run the repair utility if WoW is crashing and you are getting errors (you can tell if you have error logs as there will be a new Error folder in WoWs root directory. having a lot of error logs is not a good thing). Otherwise, running the repair utility is not necessary.
