NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.
Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.
Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.
To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.
“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.
Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.
Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.
Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.
New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

Any chance you could include a log to post when the NPC was found?
Perhaps have this posted right after it finds the rare. Sometimes I afk for awhile, and when I come back, a rare shows up, but is looong gone. (generally when I afk 45min+). Thanks! |

Missing FAQ info
How do mobs appear in the cache? Automagically when you are near? or does you have to mouse over them in the window (even if you don't seem them)
Will it tell you where in the world they are? For instance that Dirkee, i have no idea where he hangs out. |

If you already did that, which rare didn't show an alert? Tamable mobs aren't searched for by default, and neither are mobs you no longer need for achievements. Those two options can be turned on just above the mob list table. |

Ok NPCScan is not working for me...
I am running World of Warcraft in Windows 7 It's installed in C:\Users\Public\Public Games\World of Warcraft (So no Hidden VirtualStore Folder) I deleted everything in C:\Users\Public\Public Games\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enUS The test in the NPCScan works (detects me) I have found rare mobs but the addon did not notify me.. I'd really like to get this to work, any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

A really handy addition would be the ability to output a message to party chat when a NPC is found.

Showing position of NPC?
Hi, I really love your addon, but..
Would it be possible to build addon to show position where the rare NPC is spotted? Coordinates or direction, maybe a waypoint system? Best regards, Reinforced |
