NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.
Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.
Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.
To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.
“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.
Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.
Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.
Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.
New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

Spawn points?
Hey, I was just wondering if any of you guys out there knows the SPAWN POINTS (that means not the route, I already know those) of the Time-Lost Proto-Drake?
I have been camping the bitch ( sorry for the curseword :P) every night from 00:00 server time to 08:00 server time in about 1½ month now, and still I haven't found the TLPD. Some of you are speaking about spawnpoints, is this addon able to what.. Calculate or just show spawnpoints of these mobs? Thanks. Fuldmåne of Sunstrider (EU)

Wouldn't it be easier to use UnitClassification and use an exclude list instead?

help!
ok i have dowloaded npc scan and want to use it for finding gondria. I added her to the npc list and as soon as i did she came up with an x next to her name. I figured I had to delete the cache to start searching for her with npc scan. Unfortunatly, when I go into my world of warcraft program file there is no cache subfile, only an interface folder and one with my account name etc. none of the folders in either of those contain the cache either. soo my problem is that i can't find it...i tried windows search which didn't find it, and i tried that runWOW.bat thing to see if i could delete it without seeing it (maybe im just retarded heh) but every time when i load the game and log in there's still an x next to gondria. I made the file but i couldn't get it to run...only open the text document, so i ran it as a command in the wow folder. still log in and see the x though. any ideas?
also i tried loading game while i was in multiple locations in the game, so i can't imagine that gondria or a tamer with her was at every one... |

3.1 Change
Just a quick note:
Patch 3.1 made the parrot "Aotona" in Sholazar Basin tameable by hunters, meaning now NPC Scan will be picking her up every time you pass a hunter who has her. So be sure to take her off the list of scanned-for NPCs unless you want a heart attack every time you're running around in a major city. Or you could end up like me and spend 10 minutes wondering why the hell mashing the target button doesn't actually target anything. :P |

Re: Re: Re: Re: 3.1 Change
Extracted manually and "replace all". Ill delete the old version completely and see what happens
edit: works fine on fresh installation. only thing is, could be my setup only, the new "tabs" with the checkboxes are too squished together in the interface screen

On a completely out-of-the-way sidenote/question, would it be possible to announce the rare books in Dalaran using the same system?

NPCScan Confusion
Not sure what's going on with this addon. I found it just a few days ago at wowinterface and downloaded it and installed it, but found my installation wasn't matching the description/use of the mod. For instance didn't have the 3 tabs across the top, only one window with list of rares and I added TLPD. I found 2 rares and killed one. (Having trouble finding/targeting after npcscan alert).
Anyway, decided to redownload and install. Quit WoW. Tossed Cache. Tossed _NPCScan. Emptied trash. Fresh download. Fresh install. Now I have a UI matching the description, but on tabs 2 and 3 (Frost and Bloody) it is showing half a dozen 'greyed' rares (as if I had found them already) and still shows the one I did kill (Crazed Indu'le Survivor). There are no 'red x's' (like in the first install) next to my one kill, only a green check mark in col 4. No marks (x's or checks) next to greyed NPCs. Any help please. Could use help with finding and targeting after alert too. Thanks |
