Chat tabs are disappearing - Page 4

YOu can fix the problem of not being able to type in any tab other than the main tab by opening the WoW options menu (press "Escape") then selecting "Interface" and "Social" -- make sure the chat option is set to use the IM style windows.

The chat tab issue appears to be a conflict between nUI and Prat, but I'm not 100% sure that's all there is to it.

I've been dealing with a lot -- family and work -- for about a month now (or so it feels like to me) and have been behind the curve trying to work on nUI. I haven't even logged into WoW in all that time. However, things have stabilized and I delivered two critical projects Monday night. Batteries recharged and time on my hands again, I expect to be back to work on nUI tonight. I'll start by addressing this issue is it's pretty much the only significant bug (aside from the FPS leak) in nUI5. Then back to nUI6. I don't know if I'll get a fix out for nUI5 tonight, but I'll get it out as soon as I can nail down a fix.

I saw all the posts about your RL troubles. No worries, it happens to everyone. RL needs to come first.

As for the paper icon thing, I figured out which addon it's from. It's from Notes U Need. It appears when I open my friends list, and as long as the list is open, clicking on it actually does do something. XP

Anywho, I'll be looking forward to an nUI update! ^_^

Are you using Prat with nUI SVAR or are you just using nUI?

The fix I suggested was specifically for making each chat frame have its own chat edit window... it does not address any of the other issues we're discussing.

I don't use Prat , and never have done. I only get the chat tabs on 1 toon probably the first one i logged on to after realid/3.35 but i am not sure. Sometime (most) they dont load but a /nui rl brings them back. All other toons only have the general tab nothing brings them back.

Glad everything is getting better

spiel2001: I have tested with bouth prat and chatter, but I get many errors then I use them, so I usaly dont use them anymore.
Not shure if its prat/chatter thats has the errors, or oif its with nui6 thats make them.

Anyway, looking forward to the update then its comming

What I can say at the moment is that after the last update of Prat yesterday there is for me one Problem gone:

The RL-ID Chattab which is attached to my main chat frame is now always visible. I have the Problem that on the first load of the UI this one was gone. Now it is there and I haven't to reload the UI anymore.

The Pratversion you have to use, are the one you find here on WoWinterface, or if you use the Curse Client set Prat to Alpha mod, because Sylvanaar seems to be very carefully with an Release of a stable version on curse.

So the best way is to download it manually for WoWI.

Nope, still not using real id. Its switched on but I dont have any real id friends linked. Still getting the bug though on the characters that created new tabs since the patch.

Yeah I removed prat in the end, although it is in my addons folder I don't turn it on for any of them.

I'll try again to make sure if I can find a character that doesn't have the problem now but all I did was create a new chat tab. Log out. Log in and only the general tab is visible.

I logged into a character I hadn't touched since the patch hit. Only have nUI, Titan, AddonManager and nUI LDB loaded. I then removed Titan and nUI_LDB in case they were affecting it somehow but no dice.

1. Right click on general tab 'Create New Window'
2. Give Window a Name and it will automatically dock in the chat area
3. Log Out to character selection screen and log back in
4. Only General Tab is shown.

I can repeatedly do step 3 regardless of chat style in game options and step 4 will always occur.

Only when a /nui rl is done will the frame appear until next log in when it will disappear again. Or as I mentioned a few posts back I make the following change to the chatframe.lua but that doesn't help everyone it seems.

ok - I made the code change as noted above. I am running Prat, but not RealID.

Round #1 - I logged in and the windows were there but were moved up a bit overlapping my buff bar. I unlocekd the Genreal tab and moved it back down into place. Logged out

Round #2 - logged back in and it was out of place again. I moved it back, and this time remembered to lock it, then logged out

Round #3 - logged back in and it was still out of place. Deleted all windows except General, unlocked, repositioned, locked, logged out.

Round #4 - logged back in a window was STILL out of place. Abandoning positioning issue. Created a new tab for only say/all guild/whisper/all party/all raid. Repositioned/locked window and logged out - which seemed to take a while - maybe random lag or something.

Round #5 - logged back in and windows were out of place, but both tabs were present.

I am WAY happier moving the windows than doing /nui rl every time I come in.

Have you tried deleting the chatcache.txt file in the characters wtf folder ? I think that resolved the positioning problem for me. Or maybe turning off prat did .. was a while back now.

Just tried deleting that chatcache.txt file in my character's directory, and all that did was scrunch my chat text up to one or two lines. lol. Oh, it also got rid of all of my custom chat frames again.

Oops, my apologies for not mentioning that side of things. And maybe I should have suggested a rename rather than a delete *slaps head*. I am so used to not worrying about redoing settings that it doesn't occur to me that others would rather not do that. If you haven't emptied the recycle bin already you should be able to restore the file back again.

I was hoping that would resolve the issue but perhaps not as simple as that. So, perhaps a combination of several things that are resulting in a single problem.

lol, it's ok. It takes like only a minute to get the settings back, so no biggy. In the name of debugging, I'm always willing to put up with a lot if it gets us closer to a solution.
