FauxMazzle  Updated less than 3 days ago!  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.5
by: Fizzlemizz [More]

What is FauxMazzle?
FauxMazzle is a look and feel tribute to MazzleFizz's once great MazzleUI that sadly didn't make it out of The Burning Crusade.

For most designated [wide] resolutions up to 1920x1200. For resolutions greater than 1920x1200, your mileage may vary.

Updates - Battle for Azeroth.
8.0.5

  • Fix: Change to the chat configuration to fix an error popping up via Prat's EditBox code (will require the FauxMazzle process to be run for each character).
  • Change: Update to the PetBattle UI to make pet selection more accessible.
8.0.4
  • Fix: Contains a fix for a BfA change effecting HitsMode. There is still a tracking message that might be printed (reports greatfully appreciated) but it should no longer generate an error.
8.0.3
  • Update: This is a rollup of all the latest addon updates including the release version of Autobar.
8.0.2
  • Fix: Includes updated Discord Unit Frames to fix DK rune bug.
  • Update: Includes the BETA version of Autobar. You may need to re-enable autobar in the FM addons options and re-run the FauxMazzle process on a single character.
8.0.1
  • Fix: For nil table return by the map function when in instances (thank you legion3pm). Requires running the FauxMazzle process on at least one character.
8.0.0
  • Update: Updated for 8.0 Battle for Azeroth. SmartBuff is probably dead for good. At some stage I may look at building something similar into FauxMazzle. There is no nameplate addon included which may well be the case moving forward (there are plenty out there).
  • Fixed: Replaced the broken BreakupLargeNumbers() function with FormatLargeNumber()
  • Change: Money text now displays the coins rather than g, s, c.
  • New: Option for the money text to display only the gold portion once a character has acquired a selected amount.
latest known version of addons included.

Endorsements.
Many thanks to the generosity of Elcarath for allowing 3 very cool skins to be added to this project. You can view all the available skins below.

I would like to thank the addon authors without whom FauxMazzle would not be half the UI it is today, literally.

As always, a big thank you to Mazzlefizz for the original MazzleUI.

What do you get?
  • Context Menu (slightly different implementation from the original).
  • Custom raid frames that sorts your raid team by group, or by tank, healers and everyone else.
  • The option to sort raid units by group and/or show the raid units target icon.
  • Various raid unit customisation options.
  • Background textures that although not Mazz's, I consider are a reasonable approximation. If you have the textures from the original MazzleUI (including those from other authors that were part of the pack), they should also work with FauxMazzle. If you do have Mazzlefizz's original textures please DO NOT publish/upload/share them, Mazzlefizz licencing was very specific about the use of MazzleUI code and art.
  • 3 additional skins from the original MazzleUI compilation, courtesy of Elcarath (see the skin gallery below).
  • An in-game configuration dialog for the "configurable" addons listed.
  • The ability to choose your own replacement addons (which you will have to configure yourself).
  • The ability to switch off/on configuration of individual addons should you want to make and preserve your own changes or play around and then re-apply the default settings.
  • A MazzleUI style HUD with additional Druid mana/pet health insert.
  • The joy of once again seeing a cool MazzleUI style layout without hours (and hours and ....) of fiddling around.
  • The ability to have this quick, easy setup for all your characters new and old.

Suspiciously Missing!
FauxMazzle does not include bag, data broker/information bar or quest log addons (it does include a way to move the ObjectiveTracker window).
While MazzleUI included these types of addons, there are many flavours of each now available at WoWInterface.com and they don't overly impact on the overall look in-game, choose the one that works best for you.

How do I use FauxMazzle?
  • Download FauxMazzle.
  • Exit the game.
  • Rename or move elsewhere the WTF folder at [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\WTF.
  • Move elsewhere all the folders (or at least the ones not on the list below) from [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\.
  • Unzip the FauxMazzle .zip file and copy the newly extracted addons to the folder [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\.
  • Start the game and at the character selection screen press the "AddOns" button (lower left corner) and check the "Load out of date AddOns" box (the first time you run FauxMazzle configuration tool (/FM) you will be warned to do this even if you have already done so).
  • Enter the world and type /FM (see slash commands below) . The configuration window should have boxes ticked for the addons you have installed.
  • Check/Uncheck boxes for the addons you do/don't want configured.
  • Use the SmartBuff button to configure reminders for timed buffs etc.
  • Use the options under the HUD tab to configure the HUD to you liking.
  • Press the FauxMazzle button and let FauxMazzle go to work bringing you a bright new interface for your character to take on the world (of Warcraft).

Where's my game (micro) menu and where are my bags?
  • Move the mouse to the right hand side of your screen just above the background artwork and your MicroMenu will appear.
  • Move the mouse just above MicroMenu and your bags will appear.

Slash commands.
  • /FM or /FAUXMAZZLE - Open the FauxMazzle configuration window (/fm and /fauxmazzle are interchangeable for all slash commands) or you can click the FM button beside the calendar and tracking mini buttons.

Context menu.
This is an easy access space to bring together commonly used non-combat items so they don't clutter up your action bars. It has two pages accessed by scrolling the mouse wheel up/down. Note: The menu will hide automatically if you have or aquire a "live", potentially harmful target (yellow/red).
  • To access: right click the FM button. This will display the menu over the space used by the combat log/loot menu.
  • To hide: move the mouse outside the menu area.
  • To configure: select the Menu/Chat tab of the FauxMazzle setup window, the first page of the menu will automatically be shown (which can be paged). From here you can create, rename or delete sections, drag and drop spells, mounts, items (not pets yet) onto the menu.
  • Default: by default the menu is initially populated with active class items (pick lock, death gate etc., flight items you have ie. Aviana's Feather, Flight Master's Whistle and Hearth Stones. Teleports/Portals are placed on page 2. These can be re-populated or added once learned by pressing the "Default" button on the menu.
  • To add new items/spells: just drag and drop them while the FauxMazzle setup window is open and the Menu/Chat tab is selected.

Customising the HUD.
Under the HUD tab in the FauxMazzle setup window there are options for configuring every part of the HUD, size, colour, text display etc..
Options of note:
  • Exiting or reloading WoW with the Unique checkbox unchecked will save the current settings as the Global default for every new character FauxMazzled.
  • Exiting or reloading WoW with the Unique checkbox checked will save the current HUD settings as personal to the current character.
  • Once checked/saved, unchecking the Unique checkbox will revert a personal setting to the current Global settings.
  • Pressing the DEFAULT button will reset to the default FauxMazzle settings.

Customising the Raid Frames.
Under the Raid Frames tab in the FauxMazzle setup window there are options for configuring many parts of the raid frames.
  • Optional display of each role icon.
  • Optional display of each power type bar (mana, energy, rage etc.).
  • Order by role (default), tanks then healers then everyone else or order by group (groups 1, 3, 5, 7 on the left of the taget frame, groups 2, 4, 6, 8 on the right).
  • Option when ordering by role to have the tanks and healers display to the left or right side of the target frame.
  • Option to show the Raid Icon (skull, cross, circle, moon etc.) currently on the units target.
  • Option to display the Player raid frame when not in a raid (NOTE: triggers an automatic UI reload. NOTE: this option is cleared on entering a group or raid).
  • Options to change the bakground color and alpha of the frames.
  • Options to change the units health Full, Low, Critical colours.
  • Options to set and choose a single colour for unit names and the name shadow (default is colour by class).
  • Option to adjust the alpha for units that are out-of-range.
  • Option to adjust the Raid Icon alpha.
Using Target of Target and Focus Frames.
  • The Target of Target frame won't display unless your target has a target selected.
  • The Focus frame won't show unless you have set a focus unit. Rignt click on the desired unit and select Set Focus from the menu. To clear, right click on the Focus frame and selec Clear Focus from the menu.

The Objective Tracker. (quest dropdown list)
This can be moved for each character to the position you prefer on the screen by holding down the SHIFT key and dragging it. It will not let you take it off-screen.

The default position in the original MazzleUI for the quest log was top left of the screen below the then FuBar bar.

Thank you again Excelis for the great feedback.
  • Boss frames I can either raise them level with boss1 and a bit more spread out, stack them vertically to the left and/or right of screen, or I can raise the quartz cast bars. I'll have a play around. EDIT: Raised the Quartz bars, moving the boss frames was making things look messier than they already are.
  • The tooltips/packaged addons haven't changed since beta 1 so it might be an additional addon. Edit: Try removing Tektickles and see if the tooltips revert back.
  • The range information between the two topmost points of the HUD? The only other place to put it would be between the two lower points. I could probably make it an option (somehow I'm starting to feel like this could turn into a pages of witty questions setup process and that I'll end up with a grumpy hoof waving Tauren called MuzzleFud at the top of it ).
  • Autobar is at best flawed because of the mix of Ace2 and Ace3 libraries, it doesn't show level 90 pots for some reason (I know their item IDs are in the AB lookup table) as well as various other things. I will need a replacement if MuffinmanKen can't get it working properly.
  • The pet/class bars will need adjusting with the 12 button layout but that had been added just prior to the Beta 11 release so, still to come.
  • SmartBuff is on by default. The config opens after a character is FauxMazzled and reloaded for the first time. Interesting that of all the addon minimap buttons Bagnon lists, Smartbuff isn't one of them.
  • Loot information goes the the right hand frame of the two in the lower portion of the right castle. The information fades (which I'm thinking of disabling) but should be retrievable by scrolling the frame.

I think all in all I had a very successful test. Most my difficulties were with my placement of my MageNuggets bars. I'll have to keep working at those but it's hard since I don't know what's going to pop up where. There used to be a configuration addon that would activate EVERYTHING with one test button push. I think it stopped being maintain but I'll look around and see if I can find it. Maybe it will still work.

Anyway some things I noticed in no particular order:
  • When more than two bosses the player and pet cast bars are being covered by the boss window. And speaking of those boss UFs I noticed that during the Fallen Protectors that sometimes the names didn't match the mob they were showing. This was during or right after the Embodied Misery/Sorrow/Gloom/Anguish/Despair/Desperation.
  • The Tooltip seems unusually large. Or maybe it was just the text in the tooltip that was causing the tooltip to look unusually large.
  • This might just be because I added DBM but the Range Radar isn't in a good place at all.
  • AutoBar would use a few tweaks I think. Hearthstone, Farm, and Potion buttons would be nice. Especially the potions button so I can pre-pot and pot.
  • Using the 2 bar X 12 button layout (thanks for this) the pet bar looks like it's hanging two buttons too far to the left.
  • I think you should consider turning SmartBuff on by default and placing it's button in a nice safe spot. I put it to the left of the minimap and in line with the pet bar. It seemed to work okay there but I'm unsure.

P.S. I like the way you did the chat tabs. And their configuration seem fine to me. Maybe you could look at adding one more tab for Loot so it would be possible to scroll back to see who got what but I don't think it's very necessary.

Chat Channels

I'm wanting to define the chat channel list and see if I need more/less options

My current thinking in-line with the current options are:
  • General - The all purpose channel minus trade ie. like it is now.
  • Group - Instance, BG, Raid, Say (???).
  • Guild - Pretty simple, just guild.
  • Trade - It is what it is if you want to go there.
  • Whisper - In game and BNet private.

What am I missing?

It's not easy building these things in a vacuum so thank you for the help and suggestions .

I'm currently using Bagnon and it seems to do the job although, for the life of me, I cannot understand why it feels the need to to have anything to do with minimap buttons.

I tried Combuctor and I realy did quite liked it however, I very much dislike addons (including Blizzards) with item windows that lock themselves in position like the Combuctor Bank and gBank windows (I'm really disliking the word map in WoD for this very reason).

I even tried Baggins but the old school separation of bags was a no no for me.

And speaking of suggestions, have a look at Combuctor or Bagnon. I much prefer those to ArkInventory. Ark is just way to fancy for my tastes.

Lastly, again, thank you for your work. Please keep it up.

I had to remove tekticles. The problem: it changes the chatframe fonts whenever you type /fm. Not a bigy if you just /FM and hit the GO button but it is really strange if you don't (cancel).

I don't know why it does this, the /FM process doesn't do anything to the chat windows until you do hit the go button and at that stage it wouldn't matter what tekticles does.

Re: Re: Re: Suggestions

I'm just about to post a build with a fix for SRF.

As to not liking SRF, I haven't found a stand-alone raid frame setup that allows me to break up the bars in the manner required (certainly Grid doesn't). SRF is still maintained and current (ok, March last year but it hasn't needed fixing and Dridzt is still very much around). I'm happy to at least try another RF if you think it can do what's needed in terms of the FauxMazzle layout.

(Edit:... nevermind, sentence left for future information): If you want to fix SRF before I post, type /SRF and click the lock checkbox. Once you've re-locked, you'll have to also Select "Appearance" and hide the Group Titles.

Once I've gotten closer to release I may write my own Raid Frame or possibly include one with DUF.

Hiding the extra action buttons just means hiding DOM bars 3 and 6 (included with beta 11 as a /FM option).

Prat should also be fixed and I've added a selection of buttons to switch between General, Group, Guild, Trade and Whisper channels. If you use chat channels 8-10, those are up to you at this stage.

Arkinventory, I'm happy to try something else, this is Beta so nothing is "fixed-for-life" (or until it dies ) yet. I'll give your suggestion a try (all I do with AI is place it) and the vocal <cough cough> majority may win out in this case .

A seperate 12 button version of the castles/button backgrounds means configs for chat, SRF, DUF, DART with adjustments for all the resolutions uuuummm, ya never know .

Addons I use but don't include:
  • Align
  • Bugsack (of course)
  • Auction Lite
  • Easy Mail
  • FizzleUI (just some functions like Auto display of the repair bill, "You've been FizzleFixed for nnG, nnS, nnC" or, "You've been Fixed by the guild for nnG, nnS, nnC"). That's probably all it does these days, everything else has been subsumed into FauxMazzle.
  • LightHeaded.
  • OptionHouse
  • A butchered version of QuestKing just for the quest completion sounds the way (speed) I like.
  • RareAlert
  • RaresTip
Nothing exciting or novel.

Would you share a list of your preferred addons? I might like some of your choices better than my own. ;-) And some of your choices not so much. *cough*I hate ArkInventory*cough*.

All that said, I'm sold. It's a good piece of work and I like it. It's probably going to be my UI for WoD and I hope you will be around for the life of that expansion.

I tried tekticles and the on difference I see with mail text is that with tekticles it's all italicised and maybe a little darker. I'll put it in the next build and see how it flies.

Mazz. didn't have as many buttons per row but he was dealing with much smaller screens so "usable" v "dead" space comes into consideration (and even more so as screens keep growing). If I widen the castles for more chat I start to run out of space for party/raid frames (I could make them smaller but when do they stop being worthwhile having).

The space behind the castles above the top of the action bar background is also "dead space" (mobs be hiding there ) as the viewport raises the bottom of the WorldFrame to just below the top of the action bar background.

All things to be considered, thank you.

Postal, I use EasyMail. Skillet, I used to use ATSW, these days nothing. tektcles, I tried that and it had some ill effects I think, I'll look at it again. I didn't want to force too many addons into the pack that people might have other preferences for especially if they weren't part of the overall look and feel.

FauxMazzle is not a complete inclusion of all my addons. I have my own for quest completion announcements and telling me how much it's cost to be "FizzleFixed" (repairs), along with various other 3rd party addons.

I'll take another look at the boss frames.

Thank you again for giving me some food for thought it is greatly appreciated, and have a great night.

Also I just remember that it seems that the Boss Frames during lfr might have been a little bit low. I believe I noticed some overlap with my buffs.

Last thing for tonight, and this one is probably another "just me" things, but I think you got too many buttons per button row. I like the buttons to mostly line up with my keyboard and thus no more than 12 or 13 buttons per row. You might can even do 3 rows of 12 on each side of the mini map and opening up more room for the chat panels or something. And yes I know you are trying to be Mazzle-like but I don't recall how Mazzle did the buttons.

Re: Love the HUD

Edit: It needed a few tweeks so it won't be available until the next build is released and it's not going to be released as a standalone addon, having two versions of addons during Beta and PTR is pain enough. It will also be largely unsupported other than making sure it works.

Original Reply:
Thank you deke913, I'm glad you like the HUD but credit for the overall feel of the design must go to MazzleFizz.

I'll take a look a bit later today but I think the HUD could probably be used standalone just by copying it and the LibRangeCheck folder into a seperate addon folder and adding a .toc file. Any settings changes would have to be done ,manualy in the \SavedVariable\youhudaddonname.lua FAUXMAZZLE.HUD table.

I'll post or add to the main page the instructions if it will work without major changes.

Any chance you could make a stand alone version of the HUD? I understand if not and appreciate what you have done here regardless. Peace.

Re: Suggestions

MazzleUI had two rows of 12 action buttons (FM has 2x14) each sided with pet/class bars above (which is why it looks like a lot of nothing above the action bars on non-pet/class bar classes), the class/ bars are longer these days. Mazz. didn't have as many buttons per row but he was dealing with much smaller screens so "usable" v "dead" space comes into consideration (and even more so as screens keep growing).

Re: Raid frames not lined up

Edit: I've had a look at 1920 x 1080 (setting both monitor and game resolution) and everything looks ok. I'm not sure what's going on here.

In the FauxMazzleConfig\Modules\FM_Layouts.lua file the is an entry for 1920x1080 with the elements
Code:
["SRF"]={["x1"]=541.4140894609518,["x2"]=975.2891969505872
x1 is the x offset for the lower left SRF bar and x2 for then lower right. All the other bars a positioned on top. You could try adjusting these. Threre may be a better way of setting the coords for different resolutions.

As for Omen and Recount, I'm moving those so they can be toggled to replace the combat log/ Loot chat frames.

I'll also take a look at DBM.

I'm also adding seperate tabs for General, Trade, Guild, Whisper and Group chat frames that can be toggled over the current General chat space.

Thanks again for the great input.

Also I put in a broker bar. I'm thinking Omen might be too high now. I can tweak it myself (if I ever use Omen) but I thought might want to know.
And I add DBM and Mage Nuggets. I know Mage Nuggets isn't generic enough for Faux Mazzle but DBM is a must have addon IMO. I'd surely love for you to have a look at configuring it. :-)
