Bongos2  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.10.1
by: Tuller [More]

I have written a new action bar addon, called Dominos, and am no longer supporting this one. Please feel free to try it out, along with Trinity Bars, and Bartender 3

Bongos is an action bar replacement designed to be both low memory, and easy to setup. It is not as feature rich as other bar mods, but should include the features most commonly used.

Version History
A Brief Guide

Included Addons

  • Bongos2: The core addon.
  • Bongos2 ActionBar: Breaks up the main action bar into movable parts
  • Bongos2 Stats: A display for latency, framerate, and memory usage
  • Bongos2 RollBar: Makes the frame for rolling on items movable
  • Bongos2 CastBar: A movable casting bar, with the ability to show cast time
  • Bongos2 XP: A movable experience bar
  • Bongos2 MapBar: A movable mapbar
  • Bongos2 Options: A dynamically loaded options menu for Bongos

Features
  • Every Bongos bar can be moved, hidden, and have its scale and opacity altered
  • Sticky bars - Each bar can be anchored to any other bar
  • 120 action buttons, which can be setup in any number of bars
  • Both macro and key binding text on action buttons can be hidden
  • Customizable stance transitions for each bar

General Settings
  • To bring up the options menu: type /bongos menu
  • To unlock bars: uncheck the lock bars option in the main options menu
  • To hide or show a bar: unlock bars, then middle click or shift right click it
  • To move a bar: unlock bars, and then click and drag it with the left mouse button
  • To bring up a bar's configuration menu, right click it

Key Bindings
  • Bindings for the Bongos action bar should only be done via the bindings menu in Bongos
  • To bind keys, open the main options panel, and select the bindings option. Hover over a button, then press a key to bind it to that button

Action Bar Settings
  • Accessing general action bar options: open up the main options window (/bongos menu) and select the action bars panel
  • Adjusting the layout of a given bar: unlock bars and right click the bar you want to adjust to bring up its configuration menu
  • Moving buttons: Hold down the key for moving buttons (shift by default), and drag a button. Alternatively, unlock button positions by shift right clicking the mini map button, or unchecking the option in the main options menu
  • Making a bar bigger: You can increase the maximum size of a given bar by reducing the number of action bars. To do so, adjust the action bars slider on the action bar panel of the main options menu. This option will reset the settings of your action bars

Stances and Paging
  • Stances and paging are configured via a bar's right click menu. With bars unlocked, right click the bar you want to change,

Slash Commands
  • All commands start with either /bongos, /bob, or /bgs
  • <barList> can have a possible value of an actionbar number, menu, bags, pet. class, or all
  • You can also specify a group or range of bars, the command /bo scale 1-3 class 1.2 will scale action bars 1 2 3, and the class bar to 120% of their normal size.
  • /bongos - Shows the options menu, if present
  • /bongos lock - Toggles locking bars positions
  • /bongos show <barList> - Shows <barList>
  • /bongos hide <barList> - Hides <barList>
  • /bongos toggle <barList> - Toggles <barList>
  • /bongos scale <barList> <scale> - Sets the scale of <barList> to <scale>
  • /bongos setalpha <barList> <opacity> - Sets the opacity of <barList> to <opacity>
  • /bongos set <profile> - Sets the current character to use <profile>
  • /bongos copy <profile> - Copies all settings from <profile>
  • /bongos delete <profile> - Deletes <profile>
  • /bongos reset - Loads default settings
  • /bongos version - Displays what version of bongos you're running
  • /keybound - Toggles keybinding mode

Good to see a more stable version up, really like Bongos. I do have one question, does this version support thing like [button2] options for macros? Sometimes it seems to work and others I get the WoW error message about Ace trying something blocked.

With the new update I seem to have a problem with the menu bar. Every time I put it somewhere and logout, it gets moved to the top left side of my screen. The outline for where I placed the menu bar originally is still in its original spot but there just nothing there. The buttons are in the top left side, but I am unable to move them.

Anyone have this prob. or know how to fix it?

D'oh!

Any comments on the idea of being able to copy settings from one bar to the next?

I'm thinking of just a button "Copy Settings", which copies the main setting for the bar (buttons, columns, spacing, scale, transparency) A second button "Paste Settings" would them apply them to the bar.

This would make setting up multiple bars much less time consuming.

Alternatively, a set of global options for each of the above settings would work too. Changing a global setting, applies that setting to all bars. You can then tweak the bars individually from there.

If you move from pre 7 to 7.11 can you keep the old 6.x setup?

You are completly right. It is the firts time I manage with stances at the first try. I even start to understand paging

3 bars of 16 buttons each, all grouped, each one with its stance. On top of that another bar with 16 buttons for generic actions, absolutly fantastic.

Damn, damn, damn. Well don't rest on your laurels man, .10b was simply terrific and a hell of a lot less of a headache to work with, esp with stances.

This should be the last update for a while that will require a profile reset.

I reverted bar systems because of key bindings issues. If I can resolve the key bindings issue, then after doing a bit more work on the GUI, I will most likely switch back systems in the future.

The 7.1.x version was NOT intended to be patch day releases (I expected patch day on the 16th). I knew there were going to be issues, but assumed I would have around a week to fix them all.

Though I should have kept it as a beta release the entire time, I decided to release the mod to a wider audience after the day or so of a beta test, testing of the mod with my friends, and my own personal testing showed 7.1.x to be fairly stable.

After the release, I learned patch day would be the following day. I made the faulty assumption due to the overall stability of the initial tests, that I would be able to fix the majority of the bugs with a release on the next day. I was wrong, as I was never able to resolve the key binding issues people were having.

So, I then made the decision to revert back to the old bar system for now. The good news is that I managed to improve the state transition speed of the old system, and fixed the empty buttons showing in combat issue.

Yes, I agree with that. Fortunately one of the best things with Bongos (compared to the other bar addons I have used) is that is is quite easy to set up again.
Not for me. Because of the way in which I have my bars setup, I am required to use 60 bars of 2 buttons. This makes setup a straight-forward, yet very time consuming affair. This would be the 3rd time I've had to re-layout my interface in less than a week.

I'll keep that in mind. I may have a backup that'll do the trick.

Bindings

Reverted to 6.12.14 and it all worked well again. I had nothing bound through Bongos except the main (Bar 1, buttons 1-12) action bar. Being a hunter I had no stances. Have yet to try 7.1.11

Its a pity you had to get rid of the docking system because it really was a clever and intuitive system to have in place.

Thanks for the quick updates to your mod

Also having an issue with the key bindings. I've only added the bindings through the mods interface. Will try removing Blizzards default bindings to see how it goes.

I also had some problems with the bindings (the default ones would not go away and I had to /rl once in order to make a change take affect) but I like the "new" (now old) version. After removing the bindings in BLizzards interface everything worked fine.
