I am no longer developing or maintaining World of Warcraft addons. I haven't played in years, and don't have the time or interest to continue working on addons for a game I don't play anymore. If you are an addon author interested in continuing one of my addons, please see https://phanx.net/addons/. If you are an addon user, sorry, but there won't be any more fixes or updates from me. |
(*) As of Patch 5.4 using Up/Down to access previously entered chat lines without the Alt key is limited to non-secure commands only. If you need to access previously entered secure commands (like /cast or /use) you will still need to hold the Alt key.Options & Commands
(**) If a channel is sticky, then after talking in that channel, the chat input box will open to the same chat type again, rather than making you type /g or /ra again.
Some additional options, such as customizing which channels are made sticky and what abbreviations are used for channel names, are available by editing the Core.lua file in a plain-text editor such as Notepad. If you break something, download a fresh copy and try again.Language Support

Just looked, the "Hide extra textures" checkbox was already disabled.
I checked/enabled the option and did a test, and the first extra tab shows up correctly. Unfortunately the next extra tab (so 2 people sending direct messages) was unusable because it got cut off... Only the edge of the tab and first letter of the person's name was visible, then everything beyond the side of the chat log frame was invisible. |

@DPattee: Does that still happen when you disable the "hide extra textures"option?

Chat tabs hard to read
When PhanxChat is enabled the table titles for whispers and other custom channels (like from AddOns that can put text in a custom chat channel) are hard to read and make other tabs hard to read too... Disabling PhanxChat resolves the problem.
These two screenshots show the issue (/only/ PhanxChat addon is enabled) and how it should look (PhanxChat disabled) |

@Spatti: Those are the resize controls. Docked chat tabs can't be resized, which is why you only see them on the first tab's frame. To hide them, right click your chat tab and click "Lock frame" in the menu.

My main chat frame has a thick black border, how does one change that and/or add it to seperate frames?

Languages only show up in /s no other public channels so it's really not a big deal to talk in them because you'll be presumably around people who are also rping, but it's better to deal with that functionality elsewhere rather than have that button on the side. @Genji I have an addon, most people who rp use it actually called TRP3 which has a built in to change racial languages, there's also an addon called tongues which lets you understand and speak other factional languages that your character "understands" you should check them out. You might be able to use a click to bind addon to hotkey it otherwise I'm not sure tho, cheers.

This is probably not actually caused by PhanxChat; Blizzard is notoriously terrible at blaming the right addon. If you can reliably reproduce the problem, please:

Bugger - Chat box disappears until ui reload
1x [ADDON_ACTION_BLOCKED] AddOn 'PhanxChat' tried to call the protected function 'CompactRaidFrame4:ClearAllPoints()'.
!BugGrabber\BugGrabber.lua:573: in function <!BugGrabber\BugGrabber.lua:573> [C]:: in function 'ClearAllPoints' FrameXML\FlowContainer.lua:157: in function 'FlowContainer_DoLayout' FrameXML\FlowContainer.lua:17: in function 'FlowContainer_ResumeUpdates' ...actRaidFrames\Blizzard_CompactRaidFrameContainer.lua:185: in function 'CompactRaidFrameContainer_LayoutFrames' ...actRaidFrames\Blizzard_CompactRaidFrameContainer.lua:130: in function 'CompactRaidFrameContainer_TryUpdate' ...actRaidFrames\Blizzard_CompactRaidFrameContainer.lua:57: in function 'CompactRaidFrameContainer_OnEvent' [string "*:OnEvent"]:1: in function <[string "*:OnEvent"]:1 I'm not sure what triggers this but it causes my chat box to completely disappear until I reload UI.

Still seeing chat frame border with background set to full transparant
I've got a few chat tabs, and I've gone into them all and set the background slider all the way down to the bottom, so that the background is fully transparant.
I have checked and rechecked every single tab to make sure this is set correctly. When I'm on any other frame except the "General" (i.e. primary, left-most) tab, the border rectangle is completely invisible and the chat window completely hides itself. This is what I want. But... If I am on the General tab, even though it's background has been turned off, I can still see the frame rectangle. It's very faint, but still noticable. Also, this rectangle only shows up when the window is unlocked, which for me is all the time. I always have my chat frame unlocked so that I can adjust it at will based on the situation at hand. Is there a way to make this rectangle go away for all tabs? All my tabs are set the same, but the main chat tab seems to have a slightly different behavior.

Open the Core.lua file in Notepad or another plain-text editor and edit the STRING_STYLE value near the top. You can edit a few other template values nearby as well. Pay close attention to the comments for each value.

@Ginji:
For emotes, just type them. Typing "/wave" is faster than clicking a button and finding "/wave" in the menu and clicking on it anyway. Plus, the emote menu doesn't even show all of the available emotes, or at least it didn't the last time I looked at it some time back in the Burning Crusade. For languages, I don't think there is a command, but there's also not really any reason to ever send chat messages in, for example, Taurahe instead of Orcish. The only possible use I can think of is for RP, but for RP it seems like it would be better to "soft tag" the language (eg. write "[Taurahe]" in the message itself) instead of actually sending the message in that language, so the other players don't get a chat window full of gibberish, and also so that the other players aren't limited by the game's language mapping (eg. someone could be RPing as a troll who understands the tauren language, but there's no way to make messages actually sent in Taurahe intelligible if your character is a troll).
