Updates:
10.2.2
  • Update: Compatability update for 10.2.5 - Seeds of Renewal

What is FauxMazzle?
FauxMazzle is a look and feel tribute to MazzleFizz's once great MazzleUI that sadly didn't make it out of The Burning Crusade.
To be considered before installing:
Because the design of MazzleUI/FauxMazzle is firmly based in the CRT era of World of Warcraft gaming it is probably never going to fit well into some of the wider monitor aspects available today.
Returning Players:
This is not the same FauxMazzle you used before Shadowlands. Your settings from BfA and earlier WILL BE LOST!
These addons will need to be removed from your Interface\AddOns folder (if they exist): Discord Art, Scrolling Combat Text (SCT, SCTD), TrinketMenu, HitsMode5
Endorsements.
Many thanks to the generosity of Elcarath for allowing 3 very cool skins to be added to this project. You can view all the available skins below.

I would like to thank the addon authors without whom FauxMazzle would not be half the UI it is today, literally.

As always, a big thank you to Mazzlefizz for the original MazzleUI.

What do you get?
  • A Menu to store commonly used non-combat items for easy access.
  • (Comming Soon) Custom raid frames.
  • Background textures that although not Mazz's, I consider are a reasonable approximation. If you have the textures from the original MazzleUI (including those from other authors that were part of the pack), they should also work with FauxMazzle. If you do have Mazzlefizz's original textures please DO NOT publish/upload/share them, Mazzlefizz licencing was very specific about the use of MazzleUI code and art.
  • 3 additional skins from the original MazzleUI compilation, courtesy of Elcarath (see the skin gallery below).
  • An in-game configuration dialog.
  • The ability to choose your own replacement addons (which you will have to configure yourself).
  • The ability to switch off/on configuration of individual addons should you want to make and preserve your own changes or play around and then re-apply the default settings.
  • A MazzleUI style HUD with additional Druid mana/pet health insert.
  • The joy of once again seeing a cool MazzleUI style layout without hours (and hours and ....) of fiddling around.
  • The ability to have this quick, easy setup for all your characters new and old.

How do I use FauxMazzle?
  • Download FauxMazzle.
  • Exit the game.
  • Rename or move elsewhere the WTF folder at [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\_retail_\WTF.
  • Move elsewhere all the folders (or at least the ones not on the list below) from [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\Addons\.
  • Unzip the FauxMazzle .zip file and copy the newly extracted addons to the folder [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\_retail_\Interface\Addons\.
  • Start the game and at the character selection screen press the "AddOns" button (lower left corner) and check the "Load out of date AddOns" box.
  • Enter the world and if the FauxMazzle configuration window didn't display (top left of screen), type /FM.
  • Once you have you initial settings completed, Press the Reload button then Yes and let FauxMazzle go to work bringing
you a bright new interface for your character to take on the world (of Warcraft).
* If something goes wrong: the first thing to do would be to Exit The Game, then open the [WoW game folder]\_retail_\WTF\Account\[your account name]\SavedVariables folder. Delete the files: FauxMazzle.lua and FauxMazzle.lua.bak. Re-start the game. *** This will cause a loss of all FauxMazzle character settings
Where's my game (micro) menu and where are my bags?
  • Move the mouse to the right hand side of your screen just above the background artwork and your MicroMenu will appear.
  • Move the mouse just above MicroMenu and your bags will appear.

Slash commands.
  • /FM or /FAUXMAZZLE - Open the FauxMazzle configuration window (/fm and /fauxmazzle are interchangeable for all slash commands) or you can click the FM button beside the calendar and tracking mini buttons.

Hotspot list.
If you mouse over a Hotspot a text will tell you what it actions.
  • Left castle top left - Calculator.
  • Left castle top right - Tiny Pad (a multi page note pad).
  • Left castle lower right - Target of Target frame(out-of-combat only).
  • Left Castle bottom left - (Currently) Toggle Draenor zone ability button.
  • Right Castle top right - Bags.
  • Right Castle top left - Map.
  • Right Castle lower left - Focus frame (out-of-combat only).
  • Right Castle bottom right - Recount and Omen toggle.
  • Target cave top left - Target Trade.
  • Target cave top right - Target Whisper.
  • Target cave bottom left - Target Inspect.
  • Target cave bottom right - Target Follow.

Chat.
Default chat buttons.
  • General: A wide range of information. *
  • Group: Party and /say.
  • Guild: Guild chat. *
  • Trade: Trade chat.
  • Whisper: Private conversations.
* Buttons cannot be deleted.

Display the button bar permanently or on mouse over.

The FauxMazzle Menu.
This is an easy access space to bring together commonly used non-combat items so they don't clutter up your action bars. It has two pages accessed by scrolling the mouse wheel up/down. Note: The menu will hide automatically if you have or aquire a "live", potentially harmful target
  • To access: right or left (depending on your settings) click the FM button. This will display the menu over the space used by the combat log/loot menu.
  • To hide: move the mouse outside the menu area.
  • To configure: select the Menu option in the FauxMazzle setup window, the first page of the menu will automatically be shown (which can be paged). From here you can drag and drop spells, mounts, items onto the menu, move the around or remove them.

Customising the HUD.
Under the HUD tab in the FauxMazzle setup window there are options for configuring every part of the HUD, size, colour, text display etc..
Options of note:
  • Pressing the RESET button will reset to the default FauxMazzle settings.

Customising the Raid Frames (NOT YET AVAILABLE).
Under the Raid Frames tab in the FauxMazzle setup window there are options for configuring many parts of the raid frames.
  • Optional display of each role icon.
  • Optional display of each power type bar (mana, energy, rage etc.).
  • Order by role (default), tanks then healers then everyone else or order by group (groups 1, 3, 5, 7 on the left of the taget frame, groups 2, 4, 6, 8 on the right).
  • Option when ordering by role to have the tanks and healers display to the left or right side of the target frame.
  • Option to show the Raid Icon (skull, cross, circle, moon etc.) currently on the units target.
  • Option to display the Player raid frame when not in a raid (NOTE: triggers an automatic UI reload. NOTE: this option is cleared on entering a group or raid).
  • Options to change the bakground color and alpha of the frames.
  • Options to change the units health Full, Low, Critical colours.
  • Options to set and choose a single colour for unit names and the name shadow (default is colour by class).
  • Option to adjust the alpha for units that are out-of-range.
  • Option to adjust the Raid Icon alpha.
Using Target of Target and Focus Frames.
  • The Target of Target frame won't display unless your target has a target selected.
  • The Focus frame won't show unless you have set a focus unit. Rignt click on the desired unit and select Set Focus from the menu. To clear, right click on the Focus frame and selec Clear Focus from the menu.

The Objective Tracker. (quest dropdown list)
This can be moved for each character to the position you prefer on the screen by holding down the SHIFT key and dragging it. It will not let you take it off-screen.

The default position in the original MazzleUI for the quest log was top left of the screen below the then FuBar bar.

This is not the same FauxMazzle you used before Shadowlands! Your settings from BfA and earlier WILL BE LOST! ***

Before doing anything else: NOW would be a good time to backup/copy, whatever you do, your WoW WTF and Interface folders (why not make two copies?).

If you are a Previous FauxMazzle enthusiast: Remove the following addons from your Interface\AddOns folder (if they exist):
  • Discord Art:
  • Scrolling Combat Text:
  • TrinketMenu
(If you want to use Discord Art for other non-FauxMazzle artwork etc. you will need to migrate these to a new separate profile, but that will probably better done after you are up-and-running with the new FauxMazzle)

If something goes wrong: the first thing to do would be to Exit The Game, then open the [WoW game folder]\_retail_\WTF\Account\[your account name]\SavedVariables folder. Delete the files: FauxMazzle.lua and FauxMazzle.lua.bak. Re-start the game.

The possibilties are endless depening on what addons you have installed.

You could try exiting the game,
rename the [WoW]\_retail_\Interface\AddOns to something else, eg. [WoW]\_retail_\Interface\AddOnsSaved .

Create a new AddOns folder

Before continuing I would start the game and see if it works or not. If not then it's likely an addon changed a game CVar otherwise you can move to:

copy addons in small batches from where they're saved onto the new folder. (start with obvious map, tooltip addons)

Start the game and see if you have the problem. If you do, youi know it's one from the last batch so you can remove one-at-a-time (start the game) until you find which one otherwise,

Rinse and repeat.

It's not ideal but on it's own, nothing in the FauxMazzle package should interfere with the minimap other that creating the square mask and moving it. (TipTac might alter tooltips but again, none of the default FM settings should interfere with the minimap).

Hi Tremorius,

Thank you for posting the solution. One to save in case it comes up again.

The problem with the linking has been solved by deleting the file bindings-cache in the folder WTF/Account/Accountname. I came up with this because the shift key didn't work today when socking the necklace. While searching I came across this suggested solution.

Being Non-Interactive doesn't stop you creating chat item links. It prevents the tooltip showing when you click on the link in chat.

Hi Tremorius,

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I press Enter to open/select the chat editbox then shift/click an item in my bags and the itemlink appears in the box and is posted to chat when I press Enter to send the message.

First I would suggest you open the FauxMazzle option (Left/Right click on the FM button depending on the action you've chosen for it) then:
  • Click AddOns .
  • Check the Defaults box at the top of the list.
  • Select Discord Unit Frames
  • Click Reset
  • and then Reload.

If that hasn't done what you need then use:
  • /duf
  • Select Party from the tabs at the top
  • Select the party member frame you want to move from the Frame To Move droplist.
  • Use the arrow buttons or X/Y edit boxes to move the frame(s) where you want.

Loss of DUF for party member 4 while in Dungeon.

How do I get the 4th frame back in dungeon groups? the spacing is off also. Would I be able to fix that as well?

  1. install UI as described, UIScaling turned off
  2. Enable UIScaling, set scale to 0.79 (or in Blizz UI 79%)
  3. reload
  4. reposition the autobar above the actionbars
  5. ???
  6. Profit
I'm glad you have something that's working. If you want to use some of the space left at the bottom you can open the FM settings, Addons and click the -> arrow button on Dominos entry and add up to 3 extra columns of buttons on the ends.

Have Fun!

I'm seriously thinking of letting FauxMazzle as it stands move on to the great bit bucket in the sky when DF signs off (assuming I can come up with something I like).

... I'm not even sure it will make it to 10.1 if it launches anything like the current PTR version.
That's sad to hear, even went ahead and fixed xcalc since it's used by this ui
(or to be more precise, is directly available via hotspot).

Hi Baine, thank you for your interest.

To be perfectly honest, it's something that's been overlooked or, more like happily forgotten about.

Blizzard changed the screen resolution reporting API in Shadowlands (or DF I forget which) so in retail, it's completely different to the Classics. Along with having to fiddle most of the addons in all the resolutions in the different client versions, it was something that's been kicked down the road because no-one (until now ) said anything.

I also think the bottom heavy solid panel design is past its use-by (as you noted, the bottom panels are getting lots of space and there's only so many extra action buttons you can add). In it's day (vanilla) when 800x600 was king it worked well but these days it's a bit of a stretch... so to speak. Especially with ultra-wide screens becomming the norm.
