To clear the air, FuBar is still in beta, there are API changes going on.

The difference between FuBar and other addons is that FuBar is not just a product, but it is a platform.

When I hit 1.0, I promise a feature freeze until 1.1, and bug fixes up until that point.

Currently everyone using this is a beta tester.
I honestly don't see why I should limit myself to a closed group of beta testers, when I could just upload to WoWI, then officially release at a later time.

Looks to me (and other reasonable people) like a release, no matter what the numbering scheme is or how it is categorized. My concerns stand.

Nonetheless, I do wish this project the best of luck. As well as hope it becomes a much less buggy, viable Titan Ace-alternative that most/all Titan mod devs start releasing on.
Boss has stated from day one that this is beta software and that is should work but it is still in development so to use it at your own risk. The fact of the matter is that this addon, regardless of its name, is very well done and almost stable to the point of making it an actual release. I have been using this addon since early beta while checking daily for new updates. I can assure you it has not always been stable, that many API changes have happened, and that new features have been added frequently. This looks to me (and other reasonable people) like this is not at all what you would expect to see from an addon that has been released and therefore while you (and your other like-minded people) have a right to express your concerns, they do appear to some (myself and other reasonable people included) to be baseless given the beta nature of this addon. My advice to you is to wait for the v1.0 release if the beta phase is too hot for you to handle because you will be much happier and would not have to concern yourself with things that won't matter after release is official.

As well, "boss" in CT's case is referring to something literal--raid bosses--whereas BossPanel is just a name. That's a similar argument to someone being confused between the "Fishing Buddy" and "Fishing Info" mods--it is just not the case.

So as I mentioned previously, I don't think it was a good move. Might have been a decent move before the mod was released, but not now. Nonetheless, hope it works out for you and that BossPanel/FuBar ends up being a superior, less buggy alternative to Titan 2.x.
not tht name amtters to me and definitely i dun care as long as it works but i gotta agree i du nthink anyone can confuse CT_Mods with BossPanel mods.... and moreover wasn't FUBAR a previosuly used name for an addon??????? i just heard and was like hmmmm ain't tht already been used.... ?
anyways gr8 work to the author would appreciate tho if u cld look in to the last prob i reported... the bar is not showing up.....

Good job Boss!

I just downloaded and installed FuBar (i think bosspanel is a cooler name) and it works fine Only comment I have for you, is make it looks better. Right now it looks very ugly and the tooltips people use are too colorful. Thats one of the reasons why i love titanpanel. Very good looking, very nice look to everything. I am thankful that someone made a titan skin for bosspanel Keep up the good work!

P.S. If anyone can make TitanXPBar for bossp - err fubar would be awesome!

Heh. So I take it constructive criticism doesn't occur much in your life, then?

My initial concerns about changing the name have to do with the universal problem of changing a mod base's name this far into development, instead of picking a name before release and sticking with it. Problems that occur with both mods & software that change their name (completely) long after release include the following:

A) The slowing of adoption by people who may have heard about BossPanel and are now confused/unsure about the name change (i.e. "will old BossPanel mods work with this?, etc.).

B) The slowing of mod development/updates due to this change (i.e. "what if the author changes the name again? I've got little time to work on mods...forcing me to update the name yet again is not good").

C) The potential for older BossPanel mods not to work after this name change.

------------------------------

As to putting FuBar mods in a subfolder, I agree it might be slightly more convenient for users. But it is not a very wise idea.

Third party addons--whether for bar mods (including Titan, InfoBar, etc.) or stand-alone--have always resided in their own folders in the root of \Addons. Changing the required location to be a subfolder of \Fubar would cause the following problems:

--Mods in subfolders of other mods can show up and can be enabled/disabled fine in Addons. But doing that requires that the mod put--yes--an \Addons root folder with the name of the mod and at least a TOC. Say you have a mod called "FuBar_TickleMe" that resides in \Addons\FuBar\FuBar_TickleMe\. You still need the following folder to exist with a TOC in order for Addons to see it: \Addons\FuBar_TickleMe (with "FuBar_TickleMe.toc" residing in it).

Seeing as you need that root folder anyway in order for the mod to be seen in Addons, why not just put the whole mod there?

--Due to mod tradition, nearly all mods unzip to their own folders. It is the way things are done. It would add yet another thing mod authors would have to change (besides the name) to get their mods working correctly. More effort, more inconvenience, less potential of mod authors working on/porting over their mods from Titan.

--If a mod author forgets to add in the proper path in their ZIP files (due to the above noted tradition, etc.), that mod won't be installed properly. If the user has a bit of a clue and knows the proper path to put it in, its still more work for the user.

Keeping third party addons working when installed completely to their own folders is the best way to go.

I thought that the way wow is designed that you can only enable and disable addons that are in the root of the addons folder. I could be wrong. But assuming I am right (something I love to do) then putting plugins in a subfolder isn't a very swift idea. Just get used to a busy addons folder. I use almost 100 addons and it does not phase me in the least to see all the folders.

I'm another who don't care about the name, it's the functionality that matters. And so far all the plug-ins that I installed (which is almost all of them) seem to be working just fine (after the compatibility files where added in that is). Name it Colonel Klanks Cluster Muster for all I care, just as long as it keeps working. Great mod, thank you very much for it.

P.S. I am another who agrees with the idea of having the plun-ins in a subfolder of the mod though.

People realy need to stop being tards and start apreciating what they get.

I love Fubar (prevously Bosspanel) and the namechange havnt changed my oppinion at all
Id like to thank everyone contributing to the development of all the addons made for FuBar.

On a sidenote tho, since I finaly got my lazy bumm up to register in here after leeching all the bytes for so long, a change in fubar to make all the aditional addons stack into Fubar main folder would save me alot of cluttering in the addonfolder.

Really Really Silly

Anyone who was confused by this addons name and CT_BossMods shouldn't be playing the game.

Edit: Some harsh comments removed. I appreciate the work spent on this addon and it's many plugins. Updates are often, too often actually, and support seems to be growing rapidly. Thanks.
